Information bulletin Monday 8th June 2020 The Bolton Council daily bulletin can be found here. Following the tragedy at Clifton marina earlier this week we have received the message below from Bolton Fire and rescue service. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and Harper Green School community at this very sad time. Message from Greater Manchester fire and rescue service We hope you are all well and are looking after yourselves, your families and each other during these challenging and still, unusual times. We are now entering the Safe4Summer period and although currently, we are unable to offer any visits to schools, we are able to share the link www.safe4summer.com to our latest campaign. The website contains details about this year’s campaign which covers Water Safety, preventing Anti-Social Behaviour (including Deliberate fires) and Road Safety. There is also a competition for 5-16 year olds in Greater Manchester to enter (iPad as a prize), and activities for young people, including a mini creative project. If there’s anything that you can share on social media (such as submissions for the creative project) we are on Facebook (/manchesterfire) and Twitter (@manchesterfire) – and will be using #Safe4Summer. Kind Regards Emergency Response Department Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Home Learning Packs We continue to direct our home learning through the blogs; however we have had a few requests for paper copies of some worksheets that your child can be doing at home. We are now in a position to be able to offer work packs to children in Y1 and above. To request a pack please email the school office. The pack will be prepared, and then can be collected at a pre-arranged time from the school office. Phased re-opening of school It is with a very heavy heart that we have had to delay the extended opening of school to further pupils. This is due the increase in the regional R rate, which indicates that the virus is increasing in this area. The message below was sent out on Saturday morning, informing parents of this very difficult decision. I shall keep you informed of any further information and decisions as the week progresses. Your support and understanding have been amazing throughout. I really do appreciate it – so thank you. Important announcement about the delay to the wider re-opening of school. Dear parents, As you are aware we have been working very hard over the past week to prepare ourselves and the school environment for a wider opening of school to more year groups. I am so proud of the way the school team have pulled together, supported each other and created a culture of safety and attention to detail across the whole school. As you know, however, the wider reopening of school was always subject to the Governments 5 targets being met and furthermore subject to the school’s risk assessment. One of the conditions of re-opening was that the R rate should be below 1.0. and in fact our risk assessment assumes that the R rate is below 1.0. At about 2pm on Friday afternoon, Public Health England announced the regional R rates; the NW area is now considered to have the highest R rate in the country and it is reported to have moved to be above 1. This means the government’s 5 measures for safe re-opening of schools have now not been achieved in this region. Our risk assessment was always dependent upon this target being met. In the light of this, the Governors and myself, have no option but to delay the extended reopening until Monday 15th June at the earliest. This decision has not been taken lightly, and may well cause some inconvenience, but at this time the prime consideration must be the safety of the pupils, the staff and indeed the wider Farnworth community. The science does not support the wider re-opening, and whilst moving ahead with our pre-prepared plans would be the easier thing to do, it is not the right thing to do. Many neighbouring authorities have also strongly advised their schools to delay their wider reopening at this time. Taking things slowly, I believe will ultimately prove to be the wisest of choices. I am hopeful to be assured of your support in this decision. The safety of the children, staff and wider community are always at the forefront of our decision making and we shall continually review this decision as more scientific guidance is produced. Our current intention is to continue with our key worker and vulnerable children service next week, for those children who have already reserved and booked their place, but delay brining back YR, Y1 and Y6 pupils until the following week at the earliest, dependent upon the science. The usual rota would then resume, with green classes commencing on 15th June and Blue on 22nd June, as previously publicised. I must stress however that this decision continues to be dependent upon the scientific guidance. This has been an exceptionally challenging time, but your trust and support have been exceptional throughout. Thank you.
