* In the medieval period the term 'rectory' or 'vicarage' referred to the legal rights to the tithes due to the church in question * Daughter House in Gloucester (Llanthony Secunda) established as a cell of Llanthony Prima by Papal Bull of 1146. In 1205 it was agreed that each establishment should have its own prior and that their joint possessions should be divided between them. Agreements made during the reign of King John gave Llanthony Secunda the holdings in Gloucestershire, half the Irish holdings, Kington (Herefs), Llantrisant, and Caldicot (Monm), whilst Llanthony Prima retained all other holdings in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Wales and half the Irish holdings. Llanthony Prima became a dependancy of Llanthony Secunda in 1481 (Carpenter, 2013, 3).
