FOURTEENTH STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING OF CASP-AP , 3 AND 4 JULY 2017

ADMINISTRATION BULLETIN

Dates and meeting venue

1. The Fourteenth Steering Committee Meeting of Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia Pacific (CASP-AP) will be hosted by the Department of Civil Aviation, Myanmar from 3 to 4 July 2017.

Registration

3. Registration will commence at 08:30 hours on the first day of the meeting. A registration desk will be set outside the meeting room. Participants are requested to arrive at the convention facilities in time to register. Participants are also requested to wear the identification badge for all activities during the meeting.

Schedule of the Meeting

4. The opening session of the Meeting will start at 09:00 hours on Monday, 3 July 2017. The daily schedule for the Meeting is from 09:00 hours to 16:30 hours with a tea / coffee break in the morning and afternoon and a mid-day break for lunch. However, the Chairman and the Secretariat may need to vary these times to meet with the Meeting requirements.

Hotel reservations and transportation

5. Participants should make their own transportation arrangement upon arrival in and departure from Myanmar. Most of the hotels run a transfer service to and from the airport.

6. A list of recommended hotels for participants is provided below. Participants should contact hotels directly; it is recommended that reservations are made well in advance. Information and/or Discussion papers

8. In order to assist in the preparation of the Meeting and its draft report, the Secretariat would appreciate receiving the information and/or discussion papers related to the Meeting not later than 9 June 2017 and all copies of such documents should be forwarded to Mr. Kyal Barter, Programme Coordinator, CASP-AP at [email protected] and cc: to [email protected] no later than 9 June.

9. All information related to the meeting arrangement, will be posted on the CASP-AP Secure Portal website at https://portal.icao.int/CASP-AP/Pages/default.aspx which will be regularly updated. Therefore, please browse through the website to ensure the most updates. For details on how to access the CASP-AP secure portal, please refer to the attachment.

Passport, visa and customs

10. All foreign nationals entering Myanmar must possess valid passports or other valid documents for travel. For further information on visa and other entry requirement please refer to: http://www.myanmarvisa.com; or http://www.mip.gov.mm; or http://www.myanmarcustoms.gov.mm.

Please be informed that Myanmar visa entry processes can be time consuming and may require additional details. In this regard, it is highly recommended to apply for a visa as early as you can.

Other useful information

14. Arrival Formalities

Upon arrival you will queue up at the immigration counters with a completed arrival card and your passport with your visa stamped inside. After passing immigration, 3/5

collect your luggage from the luggage belt and proceed to the customs counter where you will hand over your filled-out customs form. Note that items of value and currency in excess of $ 10,000 USD are supposed to be declared and taken again on departure, but in practice things are made quite easy for tourists.

15. Airport Tax

An international airport tax of 20 USD per person is including in the air ticket when departing Myanmar on an international flight.

16. Electricity

Myanmar uses 220V, and a mixture of flat 2-pin, round 2-pin or 3 pin plugs. It is recommended to bring a universal plug adaptor. Power outages are quite common but most hotels have their own generator.

17. Hours of Business

Offices are usually open from Monday to Friday from 09:30 until 16:30. Most shops are open every day. An exception is Bogyoke Market (Scott Market), which is closed on Monday and public holidays.

18. Internet

Internet access is always not reliable. The connections can be slow. Many internet cafes, however, can offer a different URL that will allow access to email providers such as Gmail and Yahoo. Most of the hotels are internet available and you will also find some small internet cafés. Sim cards are cheap (approximately USD $1-2) and data is quite reasonably priced. Foreigners will need to register details when buying a SIM card.

19. Language

The national language of Myanmar is Burmese. In the cities many of the older generation still speak very good English and also the younger generation.

20. Money (Exchange, ATMS) ATMs that accept Visa and Master Card and there are ATMs which accept foreign cards throughout Yangon. The withdrawal limit on these ATMs is 300,000 kyats and there is a charge of 500 kyats per withdrawal. US$ using very new/clean bills is also an acceptable currency.

21. Currency: The currency in Myanmar is the kyat (pronounced ‘chat’) and comes in notes of 10,20,50,100,200,500,1000,5000,10000 kyat.(Current exchange rate US$1 = 1349 kyat approx). 22. Credit cards: Some upscale restaurants and most of the hotels do accept credit cards.
