Isopogon drummondii Benth. nom. illeg. is lectotypified and replaced by the new name I. autumnalis Rye & T.Macfarlane while I. drummondii Hügel ex Jacques is recognised as a probable synonym of I. sphaerocephalus Lindl. The new subspecies I. sphaerocephalus subsp. lesueurensis Rye is described. Introduction This paper undertakes to settle the uncertainty around the name of a Western Australian species of Isopogon R.Br. (Proteaceae), the solution to which involves a second species, in which a new subspecies is recognised. In his treatment of Isopogon for the Flora of Australia, Foreman (1995) described one species as I. sp. A because he was uncertain whether the name I. drummondii Hügel ex Jacques (Jacques 1843) applied to it. A later-published name with the same epithet, I. drummondii Benth. (Bentham 1870), does apply to Foreman’s species A but cannot be used because it is an illegitimate later homonym. The name I. drummondii Hügel ex Jacques was not mentioned by Bentham (1870), possibly because it was published in a horticultural context.

    11 VEGETATION OF MARCHAGEE NATURE RESERVE B.G. MUIR General Marchagee Nature Reserve lies within the Irwin district of the South Western Botanical Province of Gardner and Bennetts (1956). Vegetation of the Marchagee Vegetation System has been discussed by Beard (1976a,b). Beard maps the vegeta­ tion of Marchagee Reserve as 'scrub heath on sandplain' with a belt of 'teatree thicket and samphire' on its north-eastern side. Abbreviated vegetation descriptions are presented in Appendix 1 and sample loca­ tions are illustrated on Map 1. Full descriptions of the vegetation following the format presented in Muir (1977) are available on request from the Librarian. Species found at some locations are listed in Appendix 2 and families of plants in Appendix 3. Methodology The vegetation of Marchagee Nature Reserve was mapped at Level 1 on the reliability scale set out in Muir (ibid). Each vegetation formation discernible on the air photographs was examined on the ground; at least one location was described in detail within each major association using the classification shown in Table 1 and discussed in detail in Muir (ibid); and a soil profile was described for each major association. Level 1 locations shown on Map 1 represent 'sample areas' where the vegetation was examined in detail. The following prefix numbers of the locations represent basic formation types. 2. = Mallee formations 3. = Shrubland formations 4. = Heath formations 7. = Salt complex 8. = Other The methods used in classifying formations, coding vegetation, preparing plant lists, classifying litter and describing soils are those of Muir (ibid). In addition to the soil characteristics dealt with on other reserves, total soluble salts were also measured on Marchagee Reserve.

In this notice - "extant" means known to be living in a wild state; "protected flora" means any flora belonging to the classes of flora declared by the Minister under section 6 of the Act to be protected flora by notice published in Gazette 9 October 1987, p. 3855; "taxon" includes any taxon that is described by a genus name or any other name or description. Note: The plural form of "taxon" is "taxa". Rare flora 3.     Biodiversity Summary for NRM Regions Species List What is the summary for and where does it come from? This list has been produced by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPC) for the Natural Resource Management Spatial Information System. The list was produced using the AustralianAustralian Natural Natural Heritage Heritage Assessment Assessment Tool Tool (ANHAT), which analyses data from a range of plant and animal surveys and collections from across Australia to automatically generate a report for each NRM region. Data sources (Appendix 2) include national and state herbaria, museums, state governments, CSIRO, Birds Australia and a range of surveys conducted by or for DEWHA. For each family of plant and animal covered by ANHAT (Appendix 1), this document gives the number of species in the country and how many of them are found in the region. It also identifies species listed as Vulnerable, Critically Endangered, Endangered or Conservation Dependent under the EPBC Act. A biodiversity summary for this region is also available. Hon Robin Chappie to the Minister for Environment I refer to the Auditor-General's Rich and Rare: Conservation of Threatened Species follow- up audit, released in September 2017, and ask: (a) will the Minister please provide a list of the names of all existing recovery plans for: (i) plant species; (ii) animal species; and (iii) ecological communities; (b) in relation to (a), for each plan, will the Minister please list: (i) the date the plan was approved; (ii) whether it is an interim or 'full' plan; (iii) the period of time in years that the plan is to cover; and (iv) the amount of funding currently allocated to the plan including by item, funding derived from: (A) Commonwealth Government; (B) State Government; and (C) offsets; (c) what action does the Minister propose to take regarding out of date recovery plans for threatened species and ecological communities; (d) what is the date of the last time that an addition was made to the list of Threatened Ecological Communities in Western Australia; (e) how many ecological communities have been recommended for listing as 'threatened' by the Threatened Ecological Communities Scientific Committee but have yet to have had their status listed as such; (f) will the Minister please list the names of all the threatened: (i) plant species; (ii) animal species; and (iii) ecological communities; and (g) for which there is no recovery plan, and for each item, please list the threat status? Native vegetation is a rich and fundamental element of our natural heritage. Unfortunately the depletion and degradation of native vegetation communities threatens the long term health and productive capacity of many Australian landscapes. Factors such as land-clearing, grazing pressures and urban development are the human threats usually associated with declining areas of native vegetation, but another introduced but lesser known threat is the Phytophthora root rot fungus. Throughout Australia Phytophthora root rot (Phytophthora cinnamomi) has had devastating effects on open forests, woodlands and heathlands, spreading as far as the cool temperate rainforests of Tasmania. This pathogenic fungus causes the roots of susceptible plants to rot, in many cases killing the plants.

    Public Transport Authority Forrestfield Airport Link Environmental investigation May 2014 Executive summary GHD Pty Ltd (GHD) was commissioned by the Public Transport Authority (PTA) to conduct an environmental investigation for the proposed Forrestfield Airport Link (FAL) and associated infrastructure. The purpose of this investigation was to undertake an assessment of the major environmental constraints in the Study Area. The results and recommendations of this environmental investigation will provide advice on any next steps and environmental approvals which may be required. This report is subject to, and must be read in conjunction with, the limitations set out in sections 1.4, 3.1.1, 3.4 and the assumptions and qualifications contained throughout the Report. Key environmental constraints There were a number of potential environmental and ecological constraints within the Study Area. Given that the Project is still in the planning phase the PTA has the opportunity to review and refine the alignment to avoid, or minimise, impacts to these constraints. These constraints include: All vegetation associations and complexes mapped as occurring within the Study Area have less than 30 percent of their pre-European/pre-1750 extents remaining. However, the Study Area may be considered to be within a constrained area of the Swan Coastal Plain (EPA, 2006a). In this case, Beard (1979) vegetation association 1018 and all the Heddle et al. (1980) vegetation complexes are present at greater than 10 percent of their pre-European/pre-1750 extents remaining and would not, therefore, be considered critical assets. Vegetation associations 1001 (in the Cities of Bayswater and Belmont and the Shire of Kalamunda) and 1009 (in the City of Bayswater) are present at less than 10 percent of their pre-European extent remaining, and may, therefore, be considered critical assets.
