Position(s): Public Transit Coordinator (Dispatcher) Secretary/Office Clerk II

Reports to: Public Transit Director/Veterans Service Officer Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities

I. GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Assists under the general supervision of the Public Transit Director/Veterans Service Officer in the efficient operation of the department(s) through the performance of administrative support functions requiring an extremely high level of confidentiality, sound independent judgment and attention to detail.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Carries out dispatching/scheduling duties and directs Public Transit drivers to meet the client’s needs. • Schedules appointments for clients and maintains scheduling for the Seward County Fleet program. • Perform a variety of clerical and communication skills including typing-computer operation, routine bookkeeping principles, billing, and ability to operate a multi-line phone system and have pleasant communication skills. Ensures employees are turning in appropriate paperwork. • Carries out day-to-day assignments and specific duties assigned by the Public Transit Director/Veterans Service Officer. • Maintain inventory of departmental supplies and orders as necessary. • Maintain vehicle maintenance schedules and schedule maintenance appointments when necessary. • Compile and prepare reports, forms, data, and summaries, checking against a variety of records in order to ensure complete and accurate information. • Operate a calculating machine, computer, copy machine, fax machine, phone system and other office equipment. • Answers the telephone, directs calls to appropriate personnel, takes accurate messages, and/or handles inquiries. Maintains a clean and orderly office. • Perform duties on an on-call basis as needed. • Perform other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.

III. OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assist in planning and promotion of Department(s) activities and events and provide support for events when called upon. • Other duties as assigned

IV. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation and math. • Thorough knowledge of and ability to utilize general office procedures, standard clerical techniques, and office equipment. • Thorough knowledge of and experience in utilizing a variety of computer systems, hardware, and software packages. • Ability to maintain departmental records, to compile information, and to prepare accurate reports. • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and make decisions on the basis of established procedures and policies. • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations such as , , , and , using a , ten-key adding machine, or manual calculation. • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, government officials, and the general public. • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all departmental documents and transactions. • Ability to type.

V. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience in the use of computers including data processing, word processing and related computer software.

VI. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent • Must be 18 years of age • Valid Nebraska driver’s license

VII. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must maintain an acceptable level of attendance, punctuality, and availability as determined by the county; must work such regularly-scheduled hours as are determined by the county; must work any required overtime, weekends, and holidays. • Must work at the assigned work site. • Must travel as required.

VIII. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT

• Normal office hazards are encountered, i.e., prolonged sitting and stooping. • Work duties require sporadically carrying up to 20 pounds for up to 30 feet. • Work duties require interaction with the general public.
