Ramesar was reviewed and approved* by the following: Marie Hardin Associate Dean/Professor of Communications Thesis Adviser Matthew P. McAllister Assistant Graduate Program Chair/Professor of Communications Russell Frank Associate Professor of Communications *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School. iii ABSTRACT This study examines the use of various frames in newspaper coverage of professional wrestler Chris Benoit’s double murder-suicide and how the crime was used by journalists in framing professional wrestling and the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). A content analysis of 133 articles from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Associated Press, The Miami Herald, The New York Times, and The Sun-Sentinel was used for the study. Articles gathered for the sample began on the day of the crime, June 25, 2007 to one year later. Crosstab analysis revealed that a frame that made performance-enhancing drugs central to the narrative was prominent in print media coverage. The use of a domestic violence frame was absent from the majority of news coverage used for this study. Professional wrestling, as well as World Wrestling Entertainment, did not seem to be framed negatively in relationship

WRESTLING WITH CRISIS COMMUNICATION: WWE’S SCANDALS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS STRATEGIES IN 2015 BY REBECCA J. STEINER A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS Department of Communication May 2016 Winston-Salem, North Carolina Approved By: John Llewellyn, PhD, Advisor Mary M. Dalton, Ph.D, Chair Robert J. Atchison, Ph.D. Dedication To my dad, Tom Steiner, you are still the smartest man I know. This project takes me one step closer to becoming a real doctor like you. ii Acknowledgements Like a debate team, this thesis is not an individual effort. Many people were indispensable in my efforts over the past two years and, without whom this would not have been possible. I am deeply grateful to all of them, especially to… Dr. John Llewellyn for being my advisor along the way. His expertise on the subject of sports communication and organizational rhetoric is unparalleled. Dr. Llewellyn reminds me of my favorite basketball coach Gregg Popovich – brief, incredibly intelligent, serious, and has a very dry sense of humor. Dr. Jarrod Atchison for being my mentor and second reader. Jarrod strongly influenced the way I learned to debate as a fifteen year old at summer debate workshop and for the past two years he has strongly influenced how I think about judging, coaching, and directing college policy debate. I can’t say enough about Jarrod’s constant encouragement and advice. Dr. Mary Dalton, for being a committee member and one of my favorite professors.

Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: The Real Story of Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment, Shaun Assael, Mike Mooneyham, Random House LLC, 2010, 0307758133, 9780307758132, 272 pages. “Current fans and recovering Hulkamaniacs alike should find [Sex, Lies, and Headlocks] as gripping as the Camel Clutch.” вЂ―MaximSex, Lies, and Headlocks is the ultimate behind-the-scenes look at the backstabbing, scandals, and high-stakes gambles that have made wrestling an enduring television phenomenon. The man behind it all is Vince McMahon, a ruthless and entertaining visionary whose professional antics make some of the flamboyant characters in the ring look tame by comparison. Throughout the book, the authors trace McMahon’s rise to power and examine the appeal of the industry’s biggest starsвЂ―including Ed “Strangler” Lewis, Gorgeous George, Bruno Sammartino, Ric Flair, and, most recently, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. In doing so, they show us that while WWE stock is traded to the public on Wall Street, wrestling remains a shadowy world guided by a century-old code that stresses secrecy and loyalty. With a new afterword, this is the definitive book about the history of pro wrestling.“Reading this excellent behind-the-scenes look at wrestling promoter McMahon . is almost as entertaining and shocking as watching the most extreme antics of McMahon’s comic-book style creations such as Steve Austin and The Rock.вЂќвЂ―Publishers Weekly“A quintessentially American success story of a cocky opportunist defying the odds and hitting it big .

  • Wwf Know Your Role
Wwf know your role Continue In 1966, Ralph H. Baer began developing video games for standard television. Its system became Magnavox Odyssey, the first home game console. Released in 1972, Baer launched the home video game industry. In the nearly four decades since Magnavox Odyssey's release, home game consoles have become a significant part of American culture, and the industry has grown into a multibillion-dollar enterprise. Sony scored incredible success with the PlayStation home game console. Released in the U.S. in 1995, PlayStation quickly became a must-have system, and by 1999 the console was sitting next to televisions in more than a third of all American homes. Born out of an abandoned collaborative project with Nintendo, Sony PlayStation appealed to a wider gaming audience. The standardization of the disk format has allowed for more quality and quality of game content. Creating a favorable market environment, Sony has attracted numerous third-party developers who have released many outstanding games.
