Julie Hiromoto is a Principal at HKS and the Firmwide Director of Integration. Her diverse experience spans complex and large-scale projects to boutique installations, balancing design excellence and technical expertise, including supertall off ice buildings, residential and mixed-use towers, hospitality projects, commercial , urban design, healthcare master planning, and a datacenter. She has worked across the US in , , , , and most extensively in and on projects in Mexico City.

As a Project Manager, Designer, Senior Technical Architect and Sustainable Design Leader, Ms. Hiromoto has specialized in curtain walls and sustainable, energy eff icient design. She pursues her passion for socially responsible design and the integration of research in practice, with her work launching for Architecture Science and Ecology (CASE). Hiromoto also served as Adjunct Faculty at New York University’s Shack Institute of Real Estate, Chair of the AIA Large Firm Roundtable Sustainability Group, and a volunteer with the International Living Future Institute. She is the 2020 Chair of the AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE®) Advisory Group.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Watershed Urbanism (2019 current) Opportunity scan assessing the interdependent opportunities for responsible urban densification that also supports natural ecological systems like the Trinity River watershed, in conjunction with the Trinity River , University of Texas Arlington College of Architecture Planning and Policy Administration, and Dallas City Department of Parks and Recreation. Project lead Responsible for definition of problem statement, identification of collaborators, alignment and clarification of project goals, resources and opportunities. This work will be exhibited at the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale opening in May. Mass Timber (2019 current) Much interest and opportunity exists with this emerging construction system. How do we build our knowledge and begin to engage and expand the possibilities beyond current applications? Since 1992, CANstruction® has hosted competitions and exhibitions in over 150 global showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food, which are donated to local hunger relief organizations.
