Sean Burstyn Reunites with Juncos Racing for Autobahn Doubleheader Event This Weekend Vero Beach, Fla., July 27, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Mandy Skinner Phone: 847-708-7713 Email: [email protected] Sean Burstyn Reunites with Juncos Racing for Autobahn Doubleheader Event This Weekend Vero Beach, Fla., July 27, 2010 – Sean Burstyn, who competed with Juncos Racing in the team’s inaugural season in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear in 2009, will reunite with the Florida- based team for this weekend’s doubleheader event at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois. Burstyn turned out his best result of the season last year at the 3.56-mile course with a fifth place finish, making the track both a likeable and memorable place for the young South Beach, Florida native. “I’m so excited to be back,” said Burstyn. “Last year I was privileged to be able to drive with the best team, car and driver in the series, and I’m proud to be able to do that again this weekend at Autobahn Country Club. I also want to thank my sponsor, The Collection, for supporting me at this event. I’m looking forward to recreating another great race weekend with the Juncos Racing team.” Burstyn, who is now a college student at the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs and Executive Board member of ChabadGW, also participated in a private test with Juncos Racing at the southern Chicago road course two weeks ago as part of his preparation for this weekend’s activities. Burstyn will be sponsored for the weekend by The Collection, a luxury automotive dealership based in South Florida. (more) Burstyn Reunites with Juncos Racing (Page Two) “I’m so glad to have Sean (Burstyn) back racing again,” said Team Owner Ricardo Juncos. “He was one of the first Juncos Racing drivers starting back in 2003, so the amount of years we have spent together makes his relationship with the whole team that much stronger. Last year at Autobahn Country Club, Sean achieved an amazing result of fifth place in the first race that weekend, and I believe he could’ve finished even better than that for the second race if he hadn’t had problems with his throttle. “We tested there two weeks ago and after almost a year of not driving a racecar, Sean really surprised us with the quick lap times he was doing. I’m very confident that this weekend will be a good one for him and the whole team. Autobahn Country Club is a track that he really likes and has always been fast at, so I know he is looking forward to it as much as we are.” Teammates Conor Daly, Tatiana Calderon and Rusty Mitchell also participated in the private test two weeks ago to prepare for rounds eight and nine of the 2010 Star Mazda Championship. Daly, 18, has had an impressive run in the 2010 season thus far by winning four races in a row, matching the record for most consecutive races won, and never finishing outside the top four positions in seven total rounds. The Noblesville, Indiana native now leads the driver’s championship by an overwhelming 41 points over Andersen Racing’s Anders Krohn. Rookie Tatiana Calderon left the last event at New Jersey Motorsports Park with her personal best race of the season under her belt. The young Colombian matched her best result of ninth position and thrived on the 2.25-mile road course. The 3.56-mile track at Autobahn Country Club is anticipated to be the perfect match for the 17-year- old’s precise driving style, giving her the perfect chance to achieve her first top-five finish of the 2010 season. This weekend will be the third race weekend with Juncos Racing for veteran Star Mazda driver Rusty Mitchell. The Texas boy joined the Championship leaders for round five at Iowa Speedway in June with plans to finish the 2010 season strongly as a Juncos Racing competitor and help the team in its running for the Team Championship title. Mitchell had an extremely successful test at Autobahn Country Club two weeks ago, leaving as one of the fastest drivers of the week and setting exciting expectations for success this weekend. (more) Burstyn Reunites with Juncos Racing (Page Three) The doubleheader weekend in Joliet, Illinois will also constitute rounds four and five of the Visit Florida Cup, this season’s “championship within a championship”. The driver with the most points at the end of the seven-race Cup will win a Floridian dream vacation, courtesy of Visit Florida, the state’s official tourism corporation. Conor Daly is currently tied for second place in the Cup with 110 points, just eight points behind leader Tristan Vautier. Thanks to the partnership with Visit Florida, this weekend’s events will also be broadcast live on HDNet. On-track sessions for the Autobahn Country Club event begin Thursday, July 29 with promoter testing and continue through Sunday, August 1 concluding the weekend with race two. • Long Time Coming – Louisiana Racer Alex Ardoin Wins with a Last-Lap Pass in Round 10 of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship at the 40Th Running of the Gp3r
LONG TIME COMING – LOUISIANA RACER ALEX ARDOIN WINS WITH A LAST-LAP PASS IN ROUND 10 OF THE 2009 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE 40TH RUNNING OF THE GP3R – QUEBEC DRIVER MIKAEL GRENIER RACES FROM 19TH TO FINISH 4TH -- Trois Rivières, Quebec (August 16, 2009) – With a perfectly-judged, last-lap, first turn pass during the green/white/checkered re-start of a hard-fought race, Louisiana driver Alex Ardoin took the lead from pole-sitter Rusty Mitchell to win Round 10 of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at the 40th running of the GP3R at Trois Rivieres. After qualifying third on the grid in the #51 JDC Motorsports / Oral & Facial Surgery Center / Twister Trailer Mazda, Ardoin hounded pole-sitter Rusty Mitchell in the #66 Mitchell Motorsports / Motorola Mazda in the closing laps of the race and, calling on three seasons of experience in Star Mazda Championship competition, scored the second win of his career; his first victory came in the 2007 season-closer at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, finished 4th in the 2008 championship and in 2009 has endured a string of bad luck that would have defeated a weaker personality. "I really need to thank the JDC Motorsports team, this win is more theirs than mine and without them I wouldn't even be racing, much less taking the podium here in Trois Rivieres," said Ardoin. "We had a really good car in the race, but Rusty was driving extremely well and I had to hope for some re-starts to give me a chance to get by.

  • Trois Rivières, Quebec
SHAKE-UP IN THE STREETS – TEXAN RUSTY MITCHELL TAKES THE POLE FOR THE START OF TOMORROW'S ROUND 10 OF THE 2009 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE 40TH RUNNING OF THE GP3R Trois Rivières, Quebec (August 15, 2009) – With the smart money betting that the pole would go to Irishman Peter Dempsey – who, after all, has won four races this year, the last three in a row… and won this event last year – it was instead Rusty Mitchell, of Midland, Texas, who stepped up, turned in his best qualifying effort ever and put the #66 Mitchell Motorsports / Motorola Mazda on the inside of the front row with a lap of 1.01.341. The time, a new lap record for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at this legendary 1.52-mile temporary road circuit at this track, eclipses the old mark of 1:01.978 set last year by… Peter Dempsey. Dempsey, running the Juncos Racing spare car -- now that Walt Bowlin, owner of the car in which Dempsey has scored his remarkable string of three straight victories, has returned to competition – had his session cut short by contact with the wall, but still managed a 1:01.489 on lap 8 to claim the outside of the front row. "Pretty much everything went right for me and I have to thank the Mitchell Motorsports team for that," said Mitchell, the second-year driver who put in strong drives on the two ovals earlier in the season, finishing 6th at the Milwaukee Mile and 4th at the Iowa Speedway.

  • Sebring International Raceway (Jan. 23, 2010) – with a Total of 23 Cars
CONOR DALY QUICKEST OF 23 CARS IN BOTH SATURDAY SESSIONS OF STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES TEST AT SEBRING Sebring International Raceway (Jan. 23, 2010) – With a total of 23 cars here at the test, and a rather larger number of drivers, some with rides, some with hope and a resume, the first official Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear series test got off to an interesting start with two sessions on Friday, Jan. 21. Canadian phenom Mikael Grenier, who ran several events last season to test the waters, was quickest in the first session with a 2:10.899 (109.271 mph) in the #14 Andersen Racing Mazda. He was closely-followed by returning racer Anders Krohn, who won on the Milwaukee Oval in 2009. Now driving for Andersen Racing, Krohn turned a lap of 2:01.928 (109.245 mph) in the #47 car. Back a bit in third with a lap of 2:03.057 (108.243 mph) in the Mitchell Motorsports Mazda was Rusty Mitchell, another experienced driver who started from the pole and finished 2nd on the Trois-Rivières street circuit in 2009. In the afternoon session on Friday, times were off a tick due to a rain shower just before the session, but once the track dried out, it was Anders Krohn topping the time sheets with a 2:02.520 (108.717 mph), followed by newcomer Tristan Vautier, a European hotshoe with experience in Formula Renault, Palmer Audi and the new FIA Formula Two series. He turned a lap of 2:02.879 (108.399 mph) in the #37 Andersen Racing Mazda.
