A Dance form popular in the 1970s and 80s. Voguing began in the Harlem gay scene as a non-agressive battle.

Voguing orten imitated the perfect lines and flexibility of the model poses seen in fashion magazine.

BATTLE

No touching was allowed during challenges. The voguer with the best dance moves was declared the winner. There were different styles of the Vogue, including pantomimes or moves imitating the challenger.

Voguing it entered mainstream homes with 's hit single "Vogue" and Malcolm McLaren's single "".

Choreographer, Dancer and Teacher was considered one of the best voguers of all time.

The House of Ninja was founded by Willi Ninja who is considered the godfather of voguing.

Member of Houses called "Children", sometimes children legally change their last name to show their affiliation with the house.

STYLES

There are currently 4 styles of vogue:

Old Way[pre 1990] New Way[post 1990] Vogue Femme[1995] Dramatics.

Old Way and New Way are generational, ten years from now, New way will likely considerated Old Way.

-Old Way

Is Characterized by formation of lines, symmetry, and precision in the execution. Old way rules dictated that one rival must "Pin" another to "Chop". Pinning involved the trapping of an opponent so that they could not execute any movements while the adversary was still motion.

-New Way Is characterized by more rigid, geometric movement coupled with "Clicks" (linb contortions at the joints) and "Arms Control", hand and wrist illusions, wich usually include tutting and locking. New way can also be described as a modified form of mime.

-Vogue Femme Is fluidity at its most extreme with exaggerated feminine movements. There are 6 elements of this style; Hands, Spins,Catwalk,Duckwalk and Dips. The dip is occasionally called "5000" or "Shablam".

Developement The ballroom scene has evolved into national dancesport. There are regional Voguing capitals: East - NewYork Mid-West - Chicago South - Atlanta West - Los Angeles

Mainstream Attetion

Many performers, particulary females, have used Vogue- style as a part of their routines. Vogue Evolution (From ABDC) , is responsible for making her signature.
