Remarks 1. In order to offer more support to the students, classes of S.5 and S.6 are split into 5 groups respectively. Small class teaching are conducted in Junior Form core subjects.The teacher-student ratio is 1:15. 2. To boost the teaching and learning effectiveness, for core subjects in junior forms, students are streamed into small groups based on their academic achievements so as to cater for learners' diversity. 3. Applied Learning subjects are offered in S.5 (Module 1) to cater for their learning diversities. 4. The School curriculum and activities may be amended timely according to school's conditions and students' needs.

S.1 Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life Secondary One Admission Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2020). Admission criteria and weightings for S1 DP: Academic performance 30%; Conduct and attitude 20%; Interview performance 30%; Achievements in extra-curricular activities 10%; Involvement in service work 10%.

Orientation Activities and Healthy Life 1. To facilitate S1 students to accommodate to the new school environment and study life, a series of academic and non-academic “S.1 Orientation Courses” will be organized in July and August. For Example: Talent Shows, Adventure Experience Course, Iron Man Adventure Course, English Language Bridging Program, Discipline Training Day Camp. Students could familiarize themselves with their new school life through meeting their new teachers and social workers. They could also get familiar with the campus facilities and the learning resources. 2. The school promotes Environmental Education. School Characteristics School Management School's Major Concerns: 1. Creating learning atmosphere, enhancing students’ academic capacity. 2. Promoting positive culture and all round development of students. School Management Organisation: 1. There are Core Members Meetings and School Board Meetings under the School Principal, to formulate school policies democratically. 2. All school policies are implemented by School Development Committee, Learning and Teaching Development Committee and Student Development Committee. 3. We have a fair and just appraisal system for evaluating the performance of all staff. Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee: 1. Incorporated Management Committee was established. The Supervisor and the Directors of our School Management Committee communicate closely with our Principal. They offer professional leadership to the school development and provide timely and strong support for our school. 2. The school board sets up an exclusive email for all teaching staff to strengthen the communication. School Green Policy: Cultivate students' awareness on environmental issues by integrating such issues into the formal curriculum and conducting co-curricular activities. Meals are distributed with customized portion in the school canteen so that the amount of leftovers and food waste can be reduced. Induction faucet, LED lighting system and Grade 1 energy labelled air-conditioning system were installed to offer a green environment. Learning and Teaching Plan Whole-school Language Policy: Our school utilizes mainly Chinese as our Medium of Instruction. To elevate students’ standard of English, a variety of English activities are organised to create a language-rich environment for the students to learn English. Learning and Teaching Strategies: 1. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy has been set up for e-learning. iPad interacting electronic notes and school-based materials enhance the learning effectiveness and the habit of self-directed learning. 2. English drama training and Read Aloud Activities are some measures to motivate the interest of learning and build up self-confidence in student. 3. The Self-Regulated Learning Scheme has been introduced to encourage junior form students to foster the habit of Self-Regulated Learning. The Dr. Stephen Chan Self-Regulated Learning Scholarship was established to promote Self-Regulated Learning. In addition, free tutorial classes are conducted after school to promote learning habit and improve their academic performance. 4. Exam papers are set with the proportion of 5:4:2, consisting of questions with different levels of difficulty. As a means to promote students’ attempt, the bonus 10 marks from the Extended Part will simply be added, composing the 100 total marks of the papers with no conversion. School-based Curriculum: 1. Electives: 2X. And Applied Learning (Module 1). We provide subsidy for students to take co-organized DSE courses at different schools. 2. Curriculum highlights: (a) Together with our various teaching activities, the school has compiled a school-based Liberal Studies learning resources package for our junior form students. The learning package aims to raise our students’ learning abilities as well as to help them cope better with the Liberal Studies syllabus in senior forms. (b) S.2 and S.3 school-based subject ‘Advanced Technology’ includes the curriculum element of Design and Technology, ICT and Science. We hope that this subject can broaden the horizons of our students on the STEM education. (c) Art is arranged in S.4 and S.5 to enrich students' other learning experiences. (d) Free enhancement and enrichment classes are also held in all forms to consolidate their learning skills and raise their academic results. (e) 'Learning Circles' in the subjects of English, Chinese, Mathematics and Integrated Humanities / Liberal Studies have been established to help teachers evaluate the learning progress and outcomes of our students on a regular basis. The learning circle sharing sessions aim to help teachers adjust and adapt the contents of their teaching curricula accordingly. Development of Key Tasks: 1. School employs 20 supporting staff in extra (e.g. social workers, teachers, teaching assistants and general staff) to take care of students’ learning and personal development needs. 2. School puts lots of resources to develop IT facilities, implements e-learning and mobile-learning, in order to boost the efficiency of teaching and learning and promotes self-directed learning. 3. As a means to demonstrate students' potential and to encourage them to strive for excellence, all students can participate in the "Let Me Shine" Scholarship Scheme and the activities related to career planning. Through the processes of Goal Setting, Planning, Execution and Reflection, this program helps to boost the determination, carefulness, perseverance and reflective thinking in students. 4. A six-year career education plan has been introduced to enable junior form students to understand their potential and aptitude; whereas Senior Form students can set their academic goals and career planning. Career and Life Planning: 1. Career Planning Education has been designed for all students. Various workshops, visits and seminars have been organized to meet the different needs and interests of the students. 2. Through an aptitude analysis, interview workshops, seminars and exchange tours, students can have more self understanding and equip themselves. 3. Parents' Talks and Teacher's Workshops are held to enable different stakeholders to have clear concepts in career planning so as to help the students' development. 4. The "Let Me Shine" Scholarship Scheme has been set up to encourage students to explore their potential, set up and achieve their goals. 5. In collaboration with the Polytechnic University and the Wharf Group, students are provided with internships in universities and at work place. 6. Students are arranged to participate in overseas study tours and exchange trips in Mainland China. Hence, it paves the way for students to further studies overseas or in the Mainland. Student Support Whole School Approach to Cater for Student Diversity: 1. Our school provides various support for new immigrant students. By dedicating a specific department to provide holistic care and support, students can have meaningful school life and learning experiences. 2. Through participating in various training, teachers gain more experiences in catering for learners' diversity. We aim to raise the quality of English language teaching. All NAC and NCS students are fully supported in learning needs and personal growth. 3. A Special Educational Needs Coordinator and a Special Educational Needs Support Teacher are appointed to promote inclusive education. We aim to provide comprehensive support to SEN students in the curriculum, pedagogies and assessment. Trained teachers are appointed to provide SEN students classroom support and after school tutorials. 4. The "Student-centred" curriculum has been compiled for Junior Forms. Students are assessed in terms of Core and Extended Parts of the Curriculum. 5. We aim at striving for more scholarships and sponsorships for student so that they are motivated to work hard and gain achievements. Among the 35 scholarships and sponsorships, the highest one is about $160,000 for the student to study in local university. 6. To cater for the needs of the underprivileged and the newly arrived students, we offer a great deal of free tutorial classes. We also provide free tutors in the Self Study Centre in the evening for all students. 7. Three social workers provide guidance and counseling services for our students. Whole School Approach to Integrated Education: 1. We adopt Whole School Approach to integrated education. Student support committee is established, which is led by the vice principal. The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), the Special Educational Needs Support Teacher and two counselors are responsible for the daily operation. The panel heads of Chinese Language, English, mathematics and Liberal Studies provide opinion about the curriculum and assessment accommodation. As we value the professional development of our teachers, we arrange teachers to receive special education training courses and participate in seminars to enhance the knowledge of catering for students with special educational needs. 2. Under the support of Learning Support Grant and other school resources, we provide teaching adaptation and speech therapy, remedial learning groups, training on social skills and individual education plan for students with special needs. Through career planning education, career guidance, career support services and workplace visits, students will be able to understand the multiple pathways to plan the career path. Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students: Our school provides additional support for NCS students to facilitate their learning of Chinese: arranging intensive Chinese learning and teaching mode(s), e.g. pull-out learning if necessary, split-class/group learning, etc.; developing school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapting learning and teaching materials; organising cultural integration activities; and hiring additional manpower and/or translation/interpretation services to facilitate the communication with parents. A NCS teaching assistant has been employed in this academic year in order to provide learning support for the NCS students with special education needs. Measures to provide adaptation for Learning and Assessment: We aim to cater for learning diversity and improve teaching efficiency through curriculum design and eclectic teaching strategies, assignments and examination accommodation. We also work closely with officials from the Education Bureau and educational psychologist by regular meetings and student assessments. Parents are also invited in the meetings to jointly set up and review individual education plan regularly, such that parents learn the skills of taking care of their children. Home-School Co-operation and School Ethos Home-School Co-operation: The Parent-Teacher Association was established to facilitate communication between the school and parents. Thanks to the great participation of the Chairperson and committee members, several scholarships have been set up to assist students with their academic and personal development. Free parents' workshops on communication skills and art work are provided for parents. School Ethos: 1. We dedicate ourselves to the promotion of a culture of respect. It is our belief that all students are teachable and educable. Once our students’ empathy is developed, they will undoubtedly become self-disciplined, obedient and respectful to others. 2. Each class is led by two class teachers generally. We intentionally form a Quality Circle for class teachers of each form to discuss matters of common concern like learning, behavioral and emotional problems through periodic meetings and collaboration. 3. With the implementation of Form-based and School-based Award Schemes, we are able to promote an attitude of self-initiatives among students. 4. We have been awarded the “Caring School Award” from the Hong Kong Christian Service and Education Bureau for 11 years and “Excellent Caring School Award” in April 2010. In 2010, we won the title of “Caring Campus”. We were also awarded "The Best Home-School cooperation Award" of the "Caring School Program" in 2013, "Award for being an Outstanding Caring School for instilling hope" in 2016 and "Award for promoting life education" in 2017. 5. Our school is an Inviting School. We have been awarded the "Inviting School Fidelity Award" from IAIE (US) for 13 years. We received "Gold Award" in 2016. Also, they will join the "Let Me Shine" Scholarship Program which helps to nurture a positive attitude towards life. Teacher Professional Training and Development: 1. Every year, overseas experts and educators visit our school and engage in professional dialogues with our teachers. 2. By joining international organization of Learning Circle and holding internal Learning Circle Meetings to promote professional development among teachers. 3. More teachers' training will be held in career planning education. 4. Thematic Peer Observation is strongly recommended. Teachers can share their experience and hence promote the effectiveness of teaching. Life-wide Learning Activities including Five Essential Learning Experiences, Key Learning Areas, Extra-curricular Activities, Co-curricular Activities, etc. 1. We have participated in "Project WeCan", which is sponsored by The Wharf Holdings Ltd. Students can visit and work as interns in different companies and organizations under the scheme. Also, we receive support from Poly U student for organizing and supporting activities for our students. 2. About 60 types of co-curricular activities, forming parts of our formal curriculum, are scheduled every Friday. Activities include the Dance Club, Lion-dancing Club and Sports Teams etc. Other activities include the Girl Guides and the Boy Scouts, which are targeted at developing the multiple intelligence of our students. Students are provided with chances to participate in various free co-curricular activities with the school subsidy. 3. We seize different learning opportunities and activity subsidies for our students. The transportation fee of most excursions are subsidized. 4. School organizes study tours to Mainland China, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Dubai and Germany for students to go out the classrooms and widen their horizons. School Facilities School Facilities: We provide new English Learning Centre, STEM Room and GYM Room for students. We have 30 classrooms, more than 10 special rooms, 3 conference rooms, a School Hall, a Student-activity Centre, a Library(well equipped with I.T. resources), a Multi-media Learning Centre, 2 Computer Rooms, an IT Control Room, a Campus TV Centre, a Multi-Purpose Room and a lift. All the rooms are installed with air-conditioners, LCD projectors and visualizers. A room named as 'Strive for Excellence' was furnished for gifted students. A well lit and air-conditioned covered playground is used as a study centre after school, exercises and reference books are provided for Self-Regulated Learning. Others Scholarship: - Our school has actively found different resources and scholarships to motivate our students. Nearly 35 different scholarships and sponsorships award students for having excellent performances in different areas. - In the 2019/20 cohort, three students have been awarded the AFS scholarship which covers the expenses for them to study in Hungary, Argentina and Russia for one year. - The "Let Me Shine" Scholarship Program has been established to motivate students to demonstrate their potential and attain personal goals. 15 students are chosen and awarded $1,000 per year.Apart from individual award, we also offer group award last year. Students form groups to strive for the shared goal. Among the best 5 groups, each will be awarded $3,000 per year. - "Project WeCan" Scheme awards a minimum of $100,000 to our Secondary Six graduates to subsidize the four-year tuition fees in local universities. - "Scholarship for Teaching and Learning" has been established to reward the students with brilliant results in the HKDSE Exam. The maximum is $10,000. - In each term, outstanding students and those who have shown improvements in their studies are granted Chan Lui Chung Tak Scholarship. - Dr. Stephen Chan Self-Regulated Learning Scholarship is established to encourage and promote Self-Regulated Learning in student. - 2-3 students who demonstrate resilience in adversity and maintain a positive attitude towards life and learning are awarded the "Upward Mobility Scholarship" from the Commission of Poverty. Each receives $5,000. - Various scholarships like alumni scholarship, Parent Teacher Association Scholarship and Scholarship for Teaching and Learning are offered for students with outstanding performance in academic and non-academic areas each year. Exchange Program: - Every year, the Yuen Yuen Institute subsidises students of our schools and those from HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 1 Secondary School, HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 2 Secondary School and HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 3 Secondary School to have an exchange program outside Hong Kong with the Yuen Yuen Institute Secondary School in Huadu District in Guangzhou to broaden their horizons. - We have formed a sister school pair with Yuxinzhen Middle School in Zhejiang to facilitate exchange for teaching and learning. STEM Education: - Our school promoted STEM education, e.g. In “THE WAREHOUSE MAKER SPACE” competition, our students received two excellent practicality awards and one innovation award. - In “Excellence Cup” STEM education challenge competition which was organized by STEM WORLD, our students won the overall championship and received “Grand Design Award”. - Primary school students in Tin Shui Wai were invited to take part in the “Chan Lui Chung Tak Cup” STEM competition.
