On 29 March 2019, Network Rail gave notice of its intention to dispose of land at Coventry station, West Midlands (the land), in accordance with Condition 71 of its network licence. The land is described in more detail in the notice (copy attached) and with further information provided to us at Annex A. 2. We have considered the information supplied by Network Rail including the responses received from third parties consulted. For the purposes of Condition 17 of Network Rail’s network licence, ORR consents to the disposal of the land in accordance with the particulars set out in its notice. Reasons for decision 3. We are satisfied that Network Rail has consulted relevant stakeholders with current information and no objections were left unresolved. 4. In considering the proposed disposal, we note that: there is no evidence that current railway operations would be affected adversely; the disposal is to Coventry City Council to facilitate its Master Plan at Coventry station; the disposal would facilitate the construction of a multi-storey car park creating an additional 152 station car parking spaces as part of the Master Plan; and Network Rail has considered the potential for future railway development in the area and has confirmed to us that the release of the land proposed for disposal would not impact any existing strategy. -
SATURDAY 31St OCTOBER Buildbase FA Trophy Rushall Olympic (A)
Good evening and a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Rushall Olympic, we do hope you enjoy your short stay with us before having a safe journey home. Rushall have made a solid start to this season’s campaign suffering only one defeat in their first 7 league games. A competitive club that are always in and around the playoffs, they will be looking to continue that form. Managed by former Barwell players, Liam Macdonald and Nick Green, they will have done their homework on us, so as ever we will be expecting a tough encounter. A well run club from top to bottom and in their second year with an artificial pitch the club is a good role model for non-league football. Both clubs know that this encounter between us will take place again at Rushall on Saturday in the Buildbase FA Trophy, it’s ironic how these consecutive fixtures seem to happen. We finally got our first win against Nuneaton Borough, which has brought a lot of relief to all connected with the club. I’m sure that will bring a lot of confidence, let’s hope we can kick on from here and get back into the mix on the league front. Finally for tonight, I’m pleased to announce that Jason Ashby owner of UK Flooring Direct has agreed to extend his sponsorship for a further 3 years with the club. He has also made a five figure donation to our fundraising effort for our 3G pitch project. The implications of this consultation, on which the Department for Transport will decide the best franchise regional train operator, are enormous. The process is much more than asking for service improvements, it is framing SLUG campaigns in a persuasive way. By the time of submission on March 15th, the SLUG document underwent seven revisions after thorough and thoughtful debate. Preparation for the SLUG response has involved various liaison events including presentations at Worcester County Hall (attended by myself and William Whiting) and Birmingham Council House (attended by Roger Davis). Other stakeholders at these meetings have included fraternal Rail User Groups, Centro officers and Worcestershire County Councillors. These parties have been valuable allies who have reinforced SLUG campaigns and general objectives for improved connectivity. Question and answer sessions have, on the whole, been constructive and productive on various levels. Unofficial sources suggest that there are at least eight interested companies or consortiums prepared to bid for operating trains within the West Midlands Rail Franchise.
