Ortodoxia românilor între comuniunea răsăriteană şi dialogul cu Apusul Cluj-Napoca, 5-6 noiembrie 2018 În spiritul frumoasei tradiţii, Facultatea de Teologie Ortodoxă a Universităţii „Babeş-Bolyai” din Cluj-Napoca organizează în fi- ecare an, la început de noiembrie, un simpozion tematic structurat pe mai multe secţiuni şi specialităţi: Teologie, Istorie, Muzicologie şi Artă. În felul acesta teologi români şi străini au posibilitatea să abordeze din perspectiva acestor domenii de cercetare teme de ma- ximă actualitate şi cu un profund impact în viaţa Bisericii şi a so- cietăţii. Anul acesta, dedicat fiind Centenarului Marii Uniri de la 1 Decembrie 1918, dată devenită şi sărbătoarea naţională a României, ne-am propus să dezbatem problema unităţii de credinţă şi a iden- tităţii religioase şi naţionale pe deoparte, iar pe de altă parte modul în care ortodoxia românească, recunoscută prin spiritul ei irenic şi echilibrat, reuşeşte să se integreze în arealul mai larg al comuniu- nii cu întregul Răsărit Ortodox în cei 100 de ani ce s-au scurs de la Marea Unire, şi chiar să contribuie uneori esenţial la promovarea, afirmarea şi întărirea comuniunii în sânul Ortodoxiei, dar să cultive şi să promoveze şi dialogul ecumenic cu Bisericile din Apusul Euro- pei, respectiv cu Biserica Romano-Catolică, cu Biserica Evanghelică Luterană din Germania şi cu alte Biserici protestante, cu Bisericile Vechi Catolice, sau cu cele necalcedoniene şi nu în ultimul rând cu 5 Unitate și Identitate Biserica Anglicană în ultimii 100 de ani. Dacă la nivelul comuniunii cu Ortodoxia Ecumenică, Biserica noastră şi-a făcut simţită prezenţa şi influenţa, mai ales prin înfiinţarea patriarhatului în anul 1925, apoi prin producţia de carte teologică de foarte bună calitate, prin viaţa monahală pilduitoare şi prin păstrarea unităţii de credinţă cu Răsăritul ortodox, în privinţa dialogului ecumenic roadele sunt mult mai sărace din nefericire şi lipsite de o perspectivă reală şi bine definită a apropierii dintre Bisericile creştine ale Europei catolice şi protestante şi ale întregii lumi. A urmat tăvălugul comunist, care şi-a propus eliminarea Bisericii din spaţiul public şi restrângerea misiunii doar în spaţiul eclezial, distrugerea intelectualităţii Biseri- cii şi a laicatului, prin oprimarea şi încarcerarea în cele mai odioase închisori a elitelor Bisericii şi culturii noastre, context politic şi so- cial în care Biserica Ortodoxă Română şi cultura română au trebuit realmente să lupte pentru supravieţuire. În ciuda acestei situaţii, graţie diplomaţiei şi înţelepciunii patriarhului Justinian Marina, Bi- serica şi-a continuat activitatea pe tărâm pastoral, misionar, cultural şi teologic, literatura de specialitate îmbogăţindu-se considerabil. Să nu uităm că în această perioadă au trăit şi s-au afirmat teologi români de prim rang, precum: Părintele Dumitru Stăniloae, Liviu Stan, Ene Branişte, Alexandru Elian, Dumitru Bodogae, Nicolae Lungu, Gheorghe Şoima, Nicolae Neaga, Grigorie T. Marcu, Milan Şesan, Mircea Păcurariu ş.a., dar tot în această perioadă o serie de clerici teologi au plătit cu viaţa în temniţele comunismului atroce, precum: Liviu Galaction Munteanu, Ilarion Felea, Florea Mureşan, ca să-i pomenim doar pe clujeni. Perioada de după 1989, când a căzut regimul totalitar din România, a deschis perspectiva libertăţii religioase şi sociale, cre- ând astfel condiţii optime pentru afirmarea şi prezenţa Bisericii şi în spaţiul public, dar a favorizat şi contexte de factură post-modernis- te care proliferau în societate a aşa-zisele valori europene, care fac abstracţie de mesajul creştin. Libertatea recâştigată a adus şi o serie de schimbări de paradigmă socială şi morală. Părintele academician Dumitru Popescu spunea că „asistăm la apariţia unui alt tip de om, omul radical, fără religie, fără istorie, victimă a propriilor lui dorin- ţe şi pofte, care nu se interesează nici de adevăr şi nici de iubire şi care a transformat lumea într-un depozit de obiecte, destinate ma- nipulării şi exploatării oarbe. Acestor provocări Biserica şi Teologia sunt chemate să le facă faţă şi să găsească noi metode pastorale pentru un proiect mai amplu de recatehizare şi chiar de reînctreştinare a societăţii ro- mâneşti. Se pun legitim o serie de întrebări: în ce măsură societatea ro- mânească, Biserica, în cei 100 de ani de la Marea Unire, a reuşit să păstreze unitatea şi identitatea spirituală? Cât sunt de periculoase şi distructive provocările noi în societatea post-modernă şi în ce mă- sură acestea contribuie la slăbirea unităţii şi a identităţii spirituale ale poporului român? Ce soluţii poate oferi Biserica societăţii româ- neşti de azi pentru a ajunge la unitatea spirituală şi morală a ţării de acum 100 de ani! Ce rol joacă Biserica Ortodoxă Română azi, pentru salvarea comuniunii, atât de încercată în sânul Ortodoxiei ecume- nice? Cum poate Biserica noastră să refacă dialogul inter-creştin, atât de necesar pentru promovarea şi păstrarea valorilor creştine şi morale comune? Care ar fi proiectele de viitor în ceea ce priveşte dialogul dintre credinţă şi cultură? Cu siguranţă, simpozionul din aceste zile de la Cluj va încerca să dezbată aceste probleme şi în consecinţă să găsească şi să propu- nă soluţii viabile. Ne bucurăm că şi în acest an au răspuns invitaţiei noastre ierarhi şi teologi din ţară şi din străinătate, pe care îi salu- tăm în modul cel mai cordial şi le mulţumim pentru disponibilitatea de a participa la acest simpozion. Am convingerea că prietenii şi oaspeţii noştri din SUA, Canada, Elveţia, Franţa, Germania, Spania, Grecia, Egipt, India, Anglia prin prezenţa lor (cea mai numeroasă la vreun simpozion organizat de facultatea de teologie din Cluj-Napo- ca) vor aduce o contribuţie importantă în promovarea şi afirmarea dialogului teologic dintre Bisericile noastre, iar fraţii noştri orto- docşi, prin prezenţa şi intervenţiile lor academice, vor spori unita- tea şi comuniunea Ortodoxiei româneşti şi Ecumenice.

    ABSTRACT Effective Evangelistic Strategies for North Korean Defectors (Talbukmin) in South Korea South Korean churches eagerness for spreading the gospel to North Koreans is a passion. However, because of the barriers between the two Koreas, spreading the Good News is nearly impossible. In the middle of the 1990’s, numerous North Koreans defected to China to avoid starvation. Many South Korean missionaries met North Koreans directly and offered the gospel along with necessities for survival in China. Since the early of 2000’s, many Talbukmin have entered South Korea so South Korean churches have directly met North Koreans and spread the gospel. However, the fruits of evangelism are few. South Korean churches find that Talbukmin are very different from South Koreans in large part due to the sixty-year division. South Korean churches do not know or fully understand the characteristics of the Talbukmin. The evangelism strategies and ministry programs of South Korean churches, which are designed for South Koreans, do not adapt well to serve the Talbukmin. This research lists and describes the following five theories to be used in the development of the effective evangelistic strategies for use with the Talbukmin and for use to interpret the interviews and questionnaires: the conversion theory, the contextualization theory, the homogenous principle, the worldview transformation theory, and the Nevius Mission Plan. In the following research exploration of the evangelization of Talbukmin in South Korea occurs through two major research agendas. The first agenda is concerned with the study of the characteristics of Talbukmin to be used for the evangelists’ understanding of the depth of differences.

    DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA (DPRK) 2017 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution provides for freedom of religious belief. The 2014 Report of the UN Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Human Rights in the DPRK, however, concluded there was an almost complete denial by the government of the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, and in many instances, violations of human rights committed by the government constituted crimes against humanity. In August the UN secretary-general and in September the special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the DPRK released reports reiterating concerns about the country’s use of arbitrary executions, political prison camps, and torture amounting to crimes against humanity. In March and December, the UN Human Rights Council and UN General Assembly plenary session, respectively, adopted resolutions by consensus that “condemned in the strongest terms the long-standing and ongoing systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations,” including denial of the right to religious freedom, and urged the government to acknowledge such violations and take immediate steps to implement relevant recommendations by the United Nations. A South Korean nongovernmental organization (NGO) said there were 1,304 cases of violations of the right to freedom of religion or belief by DPRK authorities during the year, including 119 killings and 87 disappearances. The country in the past deported, detained, and sometimes released foreigners who allegedly engaged in religious activity within its borders. Reports indicated DPRK authorities released one foreign Christian in August. According to NGOs and academics, the government’s policy toward religion was to maintain an appearance of tolerance for international audiences, while suppressing internally all religious activities not sanctioned by the state.

Peace Treaty with North Korea, USA, China, South Korea and UN. 2. Debunking, Deconstructing the hidden agenda of the capitalist control and profit maximizing works of sinful greeds by dividing Korean peninsula and the people, one of the worst victim of the division. It was the crime Dividing Korea was the crime. It should be punished legally, and repented in faith. It should be Those who committed this crime have their names among the USSR and the USA.“Cheap reconciliation”iii will never come from the simple psychological actions, but it should be just, sustainable, and with reparation. Cheap forgiveness is not enough. Genuine forgiveness should come after justice with peace for life. 10 million people separated for 70 years with tears, with wars and with poverty, and with death. Super powers actions of dividing Korean will never be unpunished, until the day of reunification.

In October the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the DPRK reported to the UN General Assembly the country’s use of arbitrary executions, political prison camps, and torture amounting to crimes against humanity remained unchanged despite a series of diplomatic engagements between the country and other nations. In December the UN General Assembly passed a resolution that condemned “the long-standing and ongoing systematic, widespread, and gross violations of human rights in and by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.” The assembly specifically expressed its very serious concern at “the imposition of the death penalty for political and religious reasons,” and “all-pervasive and severe restrictions, both online and offline, on the freedoms of thought, conscience, religion or belief, opinion and expression, peaceful assembly and association.” In May, after diplomatic discussions involving the U.S. Secretary of State, the government released a U.S. citizen pastor who had been arrested in 2017. A South Korean nongovernmental organization (NGO) said defectors who arrived in South Korea from 2007 until March 2018 and other sources reported 1,341 cases of violations of the right to freedom of religion or belief by DPRK authorities, including 120 killings and 90 disappearances.

    TTJ 15.2 (2012): 186-204 ISSN 1598-7140 Towards an Understanding of North Korean Adolescent Refugees in South Korea Kyungwha Hong Torch Trinity Graduate University, Korea For South Korea, the last decade has been marked with the transi- tion from a homogeneous to a multicultural society. Adding to the diver- sity are North Korean refugees, international marriages, and incoming foreign workers. Each group’s adjustment and well-being are important not only for the individuals but also for South Korean society as a whole. A major task for the Korean society is harmonious togetherness while acknowledging each group’s uniqueness. Understanding each group and the problems they face are prerequisites in fostering the adjustment pro- cess and harmonious cohabitants of the diverse groups. As a stepping- stone, this article will focus on North Korean adolescent refugees, a rap- idly growing group within the multicultural South Korean society. More specifically, this article will focus on understanding the unique problems they face in their adjustment process by reviewing previous literature. Furthermore, it will discuss possible roles for the church in aiding their adjustment. The number of North Korean refugees in South Korea has increased rapidly in the past decade and is expected to steadily rise (Ministry of Unification, 2012). Eight refugees were admitted in 1993. However, since 2007 more than 2,500 refugees have been admitted each year, with a record high of 2,914 refugees admitted in 2009. As of July 2012, there are more than 24,000 North Korean refugees living in South Korea. Of those, 12% (2,730) are adolescents between the ages of 10 to 19, and 4% (971) are children between the ages of newly born to 9 (Ministry of Unification, 2012).

    2020 REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA (DPRK) Office of International Religious Freedom Executive Summary The constitution provides for freedom of religious belief, with the stipulation that “religion must not be used as a pretext for drawing in foreign forces or for harming the State or social order.” In July, the UN Secretary-General reported to the UN General Assembly that the country “continues to severely restrict the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and freedom of association and peaceful assembly.” Multiple sources indicated the situation had not changed since the 2014 Report of the UN Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Human Rights in the DPRK was published. The COI found an almost complete denial by the government of the rights to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. In many instances, the COI determined that there were violations of human rights committed by the government that constituted crimes against humanity. The government reportedly continued to execute, torture, arrest, and physically abuse individuals engaged in almost any religious activities. The country’s inaccessibility and lack of timely information continued to limit the availability of details related to individual cases of abuse. It also made it difficult to estimate the number of religious groups in the country and their membership. The nongovernmental organization (NGO) Open Doors USA (ODUSA) estimated that at year’s end, 50,000 to 70,000 citizens were in prison for being Christian. In May, the NGO Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) estimated 200,000 individuals were being held in prison camps, many for being Christian.

Genuine religious freedom does not exist. There was no change in the status of respect for religious freedom by the government during the reporting period, and government policy continued to interfere with the individual's ability to choose and to manifest his or her religious belief. The government continued to repress the religious activities of unauthorized religious groups. Recent refugee, defector, missionary, and nongovernmental organization (NGO) reports indicated religious persons engaging in proselytizing in the country, and those who have been in contact with foreigners or missionaries have been arrested and subjected to harsh penalties. Refugees and defectors continued to say they witnessed the arrest and possible execution of underground Christian church members by the government in prior years. Due to the country's inaccessibility and the inability to gain timely information, the continuation of this activity during the reporting period remained difficult to verify. The government allowed foreigners to attend government-sponsored religious services. There were no reports available on societal abuses or discrimination based on religious affiliation, belief, or practice.
