NATURE OF HAZARD: FLOODS Flood situation in is still grim. As per the information, water had started to recede in city. Areas still inundated are- Adajan, Nanded where low lying areas have water up to 4 to 5 ft. Communication lines were improving but still some congestion in traffic in the peripheral areas of Surat. However as per the latest information River Mahi and River Tapi both are in high flood situation. River Mahi was flowing at Wanakbori in District at 74.37m which is 0.4 m below its previous high flood level (HFL) of 74.76. River Tapi was flowing at site Jawaharlal in Surat at 12.00 m which is 0.01m below its previous HFL (high flood level) of 12.01m. Mahi and are flooded affecting Panchmahals and Vaododara districts. 700 villages along Mahi and Sabarmati rivers have been shifted. (at district) was flowing at 23.5ft as against the danger mark of 23ft., Vishwamitri River in district was flowing at 27. 25ft as against 26ft. As reported by Vadodara Administration Dam is going to release 8.50 lac cusec water. Around 50 villages in Vadodara and Anand districts are going to be affected. Padra, Savli taluka villages will be worst affected in . IMD forecast for Gujarat: Heavy to very heavy falls at a few places likely over region, & Kutch. . CURRENT SITUATION:

The flooding in Mahi River is also likely to reach the Express highway between Kheda and Vadodara districts. 500 villages in district of the Panchmahals, Dahod, Anand, Kheda and Vaoddara districts have been issued warning. The Umreta-Sindhrot bridge-connecting Vadodara and Anand-over the Mahi was also closed for traffic following a rise in water level in the river. Flood affected districts in Gujarat were Vadodara, Bharuch, , and Surat. Six million people had been affected in 206 villages (affected population of the cities included) in Gujarat. Warning issued with respect to filling capacity of Reservoir’s were High Alert - 78 (dams), 13 Dams were on Alert and 11 dams had received warnings.

DAMAGE DETAILS: Water supply was affected in744 villages out of which supply had been erected in 412villages that had left 332 villages still wanting. Survey is on to assess other damages.

ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES:

8 IAF helicopters were deployed to air drop food packets. Special Flood Rescue teams from , Vadodara, , Rajkot and other districts had already been pressed into action to rescue people. In most vulnerable villages 300 life rings and life guards have been air dropped by now. 150 rescuers from Vadodara district those have completed the Advance training in Flood S & R are kept on stand by the Vadodara district administration. In Vadodara district, Industries in Nandesari Industrial Estate on the bank of the Mahi River and the IPCL were alerted and asked to take precautionary measures. As per the Vadodara district administration, 500 people had been shifted to safer places. . Meanwhile, people living on the river –bed slums started shifting to safer places following warnings from the city police and Fire &Emergency Services. Those evacuate from the low-lying areas, generally take shelter in Municipal run schools nearby. 3000 people from 15 villages in Dholka have been evacuated as quantum of water in these villages is expected to be very high.. Precautionary measures like supplying life jackets and boats to villagers have also been given Villagers living in the riparian areas of both the flooded Mahi and Sabarmati rivers were alerted and asked to shift to higher places with adequate food stuff, potable water and precious belongings. They have also been advised to keep their cattle heads free, and not to travel by highways which are also likely to be flooded

104boats had been used for evacuations; 7Army columns and 3 CRPF Platoons had been deployed. Administration, NGOs and local bodies all are providing relief to the affected people. Following is at glance information of the relief measures taken till Aug 11.
