NOTICE BOARD PARISH OF ST PAUL AND ST LUKE, TRANMERE AUGUST SERMON SERIES A very BIG Thank You to everyone who helped in During August it has become the custom of the preachers at Christ whatever capacity to make the Church to follow a sermon series rather than the lectionary and this Summer Fair a success. People have worked hard, donating, collecting, year is no exception, and this year they’re introducing it to St Paul’s as sorting, setting up, washing up, taking down, advertising, and 1001 well. other jobs too numerous to mention. The list of people is too many to mention, special thanks also to our friends at Christ Church for their Previously they’ve looked at characters, a letter from Paul….. However, support. The Venerable Julie Conalty, former Archdeacon of August 1 Corinthians Gospel reading Sunday Chapter 15 Tonbridge, was consecrated as the Bishop of 1 Verses 1 - 11 Luke 24: 36-49 Birkenhead and the Reverend Canon Sam Corley, former Rector of Leeds was consecrated as the 8 Verses 12 - 20 John 20:24-31 Bishop of Stockport. 15 Verses 20 - 34 Mark 13:24-37 Opera director Sir Graham Vick recently died following complications arising from Covid. Graham was the younger of two sons of Muriel and Arnold Vick. 22 Verses 35 - 49 Mark 12: 18-27 Muriel owned a wool shop at the corner of Crofton and Park Roads in Tranmere. It is thought Graham may have been a Cub Scout at St Paul’s when 31 Verses 50 - 58 Matthew 28:16-20 the 18th Birkenhad Cubs and Scouts were based here. The wool shop closed around 1969 and became a sweet shop before being converted into a house. Graham’s elder brother Hedley Vick was lead guitarist in the group The Swinging Bluejeans 1975/6. Thanks to John Thomas for making the connection with this one, his mum Peggy would occasionally buy wool from Mrs Vick’s shop.

FORWARD MOVE June 2021 Parish magazine for the Church of St Mary, Kippington (Part of the benefice of the Team Ministry including St Mary the Virgin, Riverhead with Dunton Green; and St Luke's Sevenoaks) Our mission … To be a bridge between God and our community sharing the love of Jesus and growing in worship, welcome and witness From the Team Rector … Dear friends, Can ever any Sunday be called ordinary from now on? In the Church’s liturgical calendar, this time of the year, from Trinity Sunday (May 30th) all the way to the 24th of October (the last Sunday of Trinity) is often referred to as ‘ordinary time’. The Sundays that are each referred to from Trinity 1 all the way through to Trinity 21. The ordinary Sundays of the long ordinary Trinity season. In this long and ordinary Trinity season you get the impression that as we have celebrated the glorious seasons of the year thus far – Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost – now we must wait until All Souls and All Saints, Advent and Christmas, when we can celebrate some more. In the meantime we now journey on a Sunday to worship and mark the ordinary Sundays of the Trinity Season – from 1 through to 21. Nothing spectacular happens in the liturgy, the colour green becomes a fixed for nearly five months and the Minister welcomes everyone to worship to yet another week of the long Trinity season. Green is such an ordinary colour. Our gardens and churchyards are filled to overflowing with green all over the place.

  • Calendar of Intercessions Christmas – Passiontide 2020
Calendar of Intercessions Christmas – Passiontide 2020 to the Prayer Calendar for the Diocese of Rochester. The Anglican Communion cycle of prayer is no Welcome longer listed here, but can be found at http://www.anglicancommunion.org/resources/cycle-of-prayer.aspx and at @ACOffice. Similarly prayers from the World Council of Churches (WCC) can be found at @WCCprayers. Both cycles have a feed in the PrayerMate app (see below). In its current form, the calendar has two cycles: Parish and Community. The Community cycle includes any church schools attached to the parishes we pray for, day by day, but also includes other aspects of parish and diocesan life. When parishes have a link set up with another parish, we also include them in our prayers. Sunday entries cover some of the bigger pictures in our Diocese (sometimes geographical, sometimes issues or activities). These are usually simply one or two lines of text, but occasionally have fuller entries. The calendar also includes the calendar of saints and the liturgical colours – to keep the connection between our intercessions and the wider rhythms of our prayer. We also remember local saints commended to us by Bishop James, who might not necessarily be recognised by the Church of England nationally. Finally, there is space in the daily entries for you to note any prayer requests that have been made to you or your parish, or any special interests you want to remember in your prayers. This prayer calendar can also be found in the PrayerMate app (http://praynow4.org/rochester), on the diocesan website (http://rochester.anglican.org/ministry/prayer-amp- intercessions/intercessions/), on Twitter and on Facebook.

  • Order of Service 19 July 2021 York Minster 19
The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St Peter in York The Consecration of The Venerable Julie Conalty Archdeacon of Tonbridge to be Bishop of Birkenhead and The Revd Canon Samuel Corley Rector of Leeds to be Bishop of Stockport by The Most Revd and Rt Hon Stephen Cottrell Lord Archbishop of York, Primate of England and Metropolitan assisted by the Bishop of Durham and the Bishop of Newcastle Monday 19 July 2021 at 11.00 am Gregory, Bishop of Nyssa and his sister Macrina, Deaconess The Consecration and Ordination of a Bishop The ministry of the church is the ministry of Christ, its chief shepherd and high priest. Those who are ordained are called to share Christ’s work, to speak in his name and build up the Church of which Christ is the head. This service of ordination perpetuates a pattern of ministry in direct continuity—through a long line of succession—with the apostles. Just as Jesus commissioned his first disciples, so by the laying on of hands the President will commission this disciple to mission. That is, to witness to the resurrection and to preach the good news of salvation in all the world. The particular role of the Bishop—while remaining a deacon and priest—is to proclaim and guard the faith, to preside of the sacraments, to lead the Church’s prayer and to hand on its ministry. During the service the candidates will be asked to confirm their commitment to these priorities. All who are present will be asked to undertake to support the ordination of the candidates, not least because as bishops they will act not just on behalf of particular local Christian communities, but of the whole Church.

  • Number 1 Place to Visit
Growing closer to God, each other and the community we serve No. 66 For the parish of St Bartholomew – Free Number 1 Place to Visit Bishops of Chester, Birkenhead and Stockport & their visit to St Bart’ On Thursday 27th May, 10 Downing Street announced that the Venerable Julie Conalty, Archdeacon of Tonbridge, was appointed the next Bishop of Birkenhead and the Reverend Canon Sam Corley, Rector of Leeds Minster, was appointed the next Bishop of Stockport. The very next day at 9am, they were accompanied by the Right Reverend Mark Tanner, Bishop of Chester, Ian Bishop, Archdeacon of Macclesfield and others, to our own St Bart's, described as a 'thriving rural church'. Here they met with Rev. Anne, John Headon and David Barrett, our churchwardens and members of the congregation, involved in Messy & Cafe Church, the Service of the Word and the successful Plant Sale. After an introduction from John on how the church had gone from closure to the present day, restoring the building and providing new and different services, there were questions about how people had been encouraged to attend the services. There was broad recognition of the enthusiasm and community spirit alive in the church and village and the welcome all had received here. There were questions on how we had raised the £500,000 spent in the last 20 years, how we had worked to change perception of the church, it’s language and those who attended. Rachael Lewis told the group how she had come to attend Messy Church with her children and now helped lead the group, confident to do so with the help and support of other parents.

The landscape produces a patchwork of rolling farmland and woods, designated as the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest. The towns of Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells run in parallel, five miles to the east; Edenbridge a similar distance to the west. All these towns offer excellent rail links to London, while the M25 runs just to the north, providing an easy link to the motorway network. So, while the landscape of the villages may be mainly rural, the population is mixed in age and occupation and the villages offer a cross-section of life in a relatively prosperous corner of south-east England.

  • Calendar of Intercessions
Calendar of Intercessions Transfiguration-Michaelmas 2018 to this edition of the prayer diary, which takes us from the eve of the feast of the Transfiguration to that of St Michael and All Welcome Angels. As usual, it’s a sizable document but designed to be quick and clear to read, and also to leave space for your own notes. Of course, you do not have to print it all out at once, and you’re welcome to reformat it, if you wish (a Word version is available from my blog, see website below). Sunday entries are designed to look at some of the bigger pictures in our Diocese – sometimes geographical (deaneries, archdeaconries, link dioceses) sometimes issues or activities (Vocations Sunday). If there is an aspect of diocesan life that you’d like included on a Sunday, do let me know. These are followed through the week by daily prayers from all over the diocese, and across the Anglican Communion, including the calendar of saints and other worthy people. Finally, there is space in the daily entries for you to note any prayer requests that have been made to you or your parish, or any special interests you want to remember in your prayers. Please contact me with any comments or suggestions – [email protected] or 01634 814439. I will also be pleased to provide large print copies to any who would find that helpful. The calendar is published on the Diocesan website, and also on www.rochesterworship.wordpress.com where you can find the next quarter’s intercessions (hopefully) as this quarter starts to come to an end.
