Svinalängorna or Beyond is a Swedish-Finnish drama starring Noomi Rapace, Ola Rapace, Outi Mäenpää, Ville Virtanen, young actress Tehilla Blad and her little brother in real life and in the film, Junior Blad. Tehilla is already used to playing Noomi Rapace's characters as a child from Stieg Larsson's Millenium -trilogy ( The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , The Girl Who Played with Fire , The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest ), but this is a completely different film, based on the novel by Susanna Alakoski and put to film by Pernilla August. The film surrounds around the life of Leena, a 34-year-old woman living with her husband and two daughters. You'll soon learn that her childhood wasn't the easiest, with a family that… Pretty powerful drama about growing up in an alcoholic household, and the eternal trauma it leaves in a person's mind. Great acting, especially from Outi Mäenpää as the mother of the family. Well made, but probably works best as a novel. Recommended for fans of realistic drama films. “I'm looking for answers,From the great beyond.” 7/10. Whilst having found her absolutely incredible in The Millennium trilogy,I’ve been unsure about when to view this Noomi Rapace title, due to how grim the subject matter is. Reading from a fellow IMDber recently who is also a Rapace fan that they found tough, but very good,I got set to finally go beyond. View on the film: From the opening scene in bed, co-writer/(with Lolita Ray) debut feature film directing Pernilla August & cinematographer Erik Molberg Hansen make the colour blue be the most prominent recurring motif in the movie, with the light tint of blue during car rides and the families being surrounded by blue objects in their homes, bringing out a cold… Not sure why, but I never really connected with the story and thus it didn't have much of an impact. Noomi Rapace was good, without being great. I like Noomi Rapace in more or less everything i have seen her in and this is not the best film she has been in, nor her best performance. It is mostly down to what she has to work with, and the plot seems a little disjointed with the constant flashback and not much follow through of the present day story. Also in a film that is supposed to be very emotional I did not feel that much involvement in that matter. Susanna Alakoski. ( ) I read this book straight-through over three evenings, and it captivated me. Yes, the topic is depressing (drunken parents, abuse, neglect), but the way it is written there are also little sunshine stories in there. You really get the feel for how it was to grow up in such a family, the fear, the need for control of situations, the helplessness (especially with social services and the police does not step in). I have no doubt that at least part of this is self-biographical, at least it seems so. It is an unusual book, not a strict novel, and not with a clear beginning and happy ending, but it is like life is most. Life goes on, things happen, we do the best we can at each moment to cope.
