Anthony Rebyanski ‘06, who was named the 13th head coach in the history of the IUP baseball program on August 22, 2016, enters his third year at the helm of his alma mater in 2019.

In two years on the Crimson Hawks’ bench, Rebyansi is 38-53 with a 29-27 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division. He’s won six of 14 divisional series in his first two seasons, including three four-game sweeps.

In 2018, Rebyanski saw Ted DeSanti earn All-American and consensus All-Region honors at second base. The senior was named the IUP Baseball Owen J. Dougherty Player of the Year, hitting .376 with seven home runs and 40 runs batted in.

The Crimson Hawks posted some of the best power numbers in program history in 2018, with their 38 home runs and 75 doubles ranking third and eighth all time, respectively, in single season program history. Their 245 runs batted in (ninth) and 275 runs scored (10th) were also some of the best numbers since the program started.

The pitching staff also landed in the record book, as IUP hurlers struck out 310 batters in 305.2 innings, averaging 9.13 K’s per nine in- nings. Those 310 strikeouts are the third highest total in program history

Under the direction of Rebyanski in 2017, he saw a team reach the PSAC Championships for the first time in six seasons, while finishing with a 22-25 overall record (18-10 PSAC West) and earning the second seed in the tournament. After the conclusion of the 2017 season, he was selected as the IUP Men’s Coach of the Year in the inaugural Crimson and Gray Awards

Throughout the 2017 season, Rebyanski coached one PSAC All-West team selection (Wes Carson), two PSAC West Players of the Week recipients (Nate Dickey and Matt Eperesi) while having one CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection (Dan Sepic).

Rebyanski saw his program earn their first PSAC Top Team GPA of the Year award, with the 2016-17 team finishing with a cumulative GPA of 3.331. The program saw 21 student-athletes earn PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors, with the 2017-18 class adding 19 to that list, bringing the total to 40 in his first two years.

Rebyanski, who grew up in Indiana, Pennsylvania, returned to his alma mater after spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons as the top assistant at California University of Pennsyl- vania. In those two years, Rebyanski helped the Vulcans to a pair of 25-win seasons and two berths in the PSAC Championship Tournament. While there, he coached all-league pitchers Jack Dennis (2015-16) and Justin Taylor (2015).

Following his playing career at IUP, Rebyanski served as the top assistant under former head coach Jeff Ditch from 2007-2013. He helped lead the Crimson Hawks to three consecutive 30-win seasons and the program’s first appearance in the PSAC Championship since 1990. Serving as the teams pitching coach, Rebyanski helped mentor Stephen Cooke, the program’s career leader in appearances (69) and wins (28), and is also one of the leaders in innings pitched (223), saves (six), strikeouts (248) and earned run average (3.02).

In addition to his coaching duties as an assistant coach at IUP, Rebyanski served as the program’s academic support liaison. He helped the program develop more than 70 PSAC Scholar-Athletes, including Ryan Mostyn, who was a two-time selection to the PSAC Spring Top 10. Mostyn and Jake Rougeaux were also named the IUP Male Scholar- Athlete of the Year in 2009 and 2010, respectively. In addition, Robbie Zinsmeister also became the program’s first Academic All-American in over a decade while also being an All-PSAC West first team selection.

As a player for IUP, Rebyanski was selected the PSAC West Rookie of the Year in 2002. He finished his career ranked among the top 10 in school history in strikeouts, innings pitched, complete games, starts and appearances. As a senior in 2005, Rebyanski served as two-way player and finished the season with a .339 batting average, four home runs and 15 runs batted in. He finished his career fourth in IUP history with 163 strikeouts.

Following his collegiate career at IUP, Rebyanski pitched four seasons as a relief pitcher in the , an independent professional league. He started his professional career with the Gateway Grizzlies before being traded to the Windy City Thunderbolts in 2007. While with the Thunderbolts, Rebyanski was named a Frontier League North All -Star in 2007 and helped Windy City win back-to-back league championships. He made 99 appearances on the mound as a professional while striking out 141 batters in 110 innings pitched.

He started his coaching career at his scholastic alma mater, Indiana High School, in 2005. In summer 2010, Rebyanski served as an assistant coach for the Thomasville HiToms of the Coastal Plain League. In fall 2010, Rebyanski was hired as field manager for the Butler BlueSox of the . He served as field manager from 2011-14, earn- ing Prospect League Manager of the Year in 2014 after leading the BlueSox to a team-record 40 victories and their first ever postseason appearance.

While in Butler, he mentored Baseball America’s Top Prospect of the Prospect League in outfielder Elliot Caldwell, who played at South Carolina. He also worked with several IUP and California (Pa.) standouts, including Kyle Petty and Ryan Uhl, who were each selected by the Seattle Mariners in the MLB Draft in 2013 and 2015, respectively, and Mick Fennell, who was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Rebyanski earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications Media from IUP in 2006. He was honored as the inaugural IUP Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2005.

Jared Grove enters his third season as an assistant coach for the IUP baseball program in the spring of 2017. Grove will continue to work with the Crimson Hawk offense, outfielders and catchers and assist in all recruiting efforts.

Grove is a graduate and former student-athlete from PSAC rival California University of Pennsylvania. He spent summer 2016 as an assistant coach with the Butler BlueSox of the Prospect League. He oversaw a BlueSox offense that recorded the second most hits in franchise history. Prior to being hired as an assistant with the BlueSox, Grove spent the summer of 2015 as a player for Butler.

Grove graduated from Cal U in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in sport management and earned a Master of Science degree in 2016 in sport management.

A native of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Grove currently resides in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Former IUP standout, draftee and current IUP Hall of Famer Anthony Zambotti returns to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant. Zambotti’s primary duties will be working with the IUP pitching staff.

Zambotti is one of the best pitchers in the history of the IUP baseball program. Upon his graduation in 2003, he ranked first or tied for first in four career statistical categories, while also ranking in the top six in three others.

IUP’s all-time strikeout king, his 332 K’s are also second in the history of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Zambotti owns school records with 20 complete games in 36 starts and 228 2/3 innings pitched. A three-time All-PSAC West first team selection, he was the PSAC West Player of the Year as a senior and Rookie of the Year in 2000. He was drafted in the 14th round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics.

A graduate of Indiana High School, Zambotti is currently the co-owner of Sky Satellite in Shelocta, Pennsylvania. and currently resides there with his wife Sara and son Attilio.

Franko Alexander enters his third season as the teams strength and conditioning coach.

Alexander, who has a military background, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS). He earned a bachelor degree in Exercise Science and a masters degree in Kinesiology Health and Sports Science, both from IUP.

With a passion in training athletes, he spent portions of two years serving as a strength coach for the IUP men’s and women’s teams. He now solely works with the IUP baseball program.

Alexander owns his own business in Indiana, Alexander Strength Development, and has trained numerous athletes around the Indiana area along with former IUP athletes.

He and his wife Karina reside in Ernest, Pennsylvania.

Zach Heffner enters his first season as a student assistant coach for the Crimson Hawks. He will assist pitching coach Anthony Zambotti in all aspects of the teams pitching staff.

Zach, who finished his playing career in spring 2018, earned a bachelor degree from IUP in December 2017 in Criminology. He is currently working toward his master’s degree at IUP in Criminology and Criminal Justice and is slated to graduate in June 2019.

As a player, he was a relief pitcher on the Crimson Hawks pitching staff. He suffered through some shoulder injuries that short- ened his collegiate playing career after the 2018 season.

Heffner is a native of Douglassville, Pennsylvania. His younger brother, Lukas, is currently a sophomore pitcher for the Crimson Hawks. 2018 - 19 QUICK FACTS
