The United States Environmental Protection Agency Announces Proposed Remedial Alternative for the ACTION ANODIZING PLATING AND POLISHING SITE Hamlet of Copiague, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently completed a Remedial Investigation (RI) for the Action Anodizing Plating and Polishing site in Babylon, New York. Based on the findings of the RI performed at the site, EPA is announcing a preferred no action remedy for the site.

Before selecting a final remedy, EPA will consider written and oral comments on this preferred alternative. All comments must be received on or before May 2, 1992. The final decision document will include a summary of public comments and EPA responses.

EPA will hold an informational public meeting on Wednesday, April 22. 1992 at 7:00 p.m., at the Babylon Town Library, 24 iSouth Carll Avenue, Babylon, New York, to discuss the findings of the RI and the preferred remedy for the site.

An integral component of the RI report, the risk assessment, indicates that the levels of contamination present in the soil, air and ground water at the site present acceptable risks for each exposure pathway evaluated, i.e. risks, which fall within or below the Superfund remediation range. Furthermore, although ground water sampling results indicate the infrequent occurrence of contaminants exceeding primary drinking water standards, the majority of contaminants do not exceed primary drinking water standards in the ground water or background levels in the soil and air. Therefore, EPA is not evaluating or proposing cleanup activities at the site. The preferred no action remedy is protective of human health and the environment and complies with federal and state requirements that are legally applicable or relevant "and appropriate to any remedial action that must he performed at the site.

The preferred no action remedy is outlined and discussed in the Proposed Plan.
