Median Auction Races SUPPLEMENT TO THE RACING CALENDAR FEBRUARY 11th 2016 1 ....................................................................................................................................................................................................... MEDIAN AUCTION RACES The British Horseracing Authority has given permission for a number of Median Auction Races to be run during the 2016 Flat Season. This Supplement contains information pertaining to horses whose sire established one or more yearling sales at the main Public Auctions held in Europe and North America in 2014 and 2015 respectively, and which took place after June 30th of the yearling year. The enclosed Supplement with statistics compiled by Weatherbys shows the Median Values in pounds sterling for the Stallions whose progeny are eligible for these races. Auction prices used in the calculation of the Stallion Median Auction price are inclusive of buyers’ premiums, where applicable, and conversion to pounds sterling. In the event of any query or dispute arising concerning either a horse’s weight or the eligibility of a stallion’s progeny, Owners and Trainers should, in the first instance, contact the Weight Adding Department at Weatherbys. This Supplement should be retained until February 2017, as the race conditions of all Median Auction Races will contain a referral to the Supplement to establish qualification and, where applicable, a horse’s weight. The definition of a Maiden Median Auction Race is "a Flat race restricted to maiden horses, which are the progeny of stallions which established a median price for the sale of yearlings contemporary with the entrants in the race based on the sale or bought in price of one or more animals at specified sales". The definition of a Novice Median Auction race is "a Flat race restricted to two years old horses which have not won a Flat race classified above Class 4 in Schedule (F)2 of the Rules of Racing, other than those races which are treated as Class 4 in the conditions of the race, and which have not won more than two races of any class, and which is restricted to the progeny of stallions which established a median price for the sale of yearlings contemporary with the entrants in the race based on the sale or bought in price of one or more animals at specified sales". The "specified sales" will cover the main Public Auction Sales held in Europe and North America (see below) and the stallion median prices will be those as compiled by Weatherbys, and published annually each February/March in a Supplement to The Racing Calendar. From this Supplement Owners and Trainers will be able to establish the weights which their two and three year old horses should carry in Median Auction Races. For older horses, please refer to previous Supplements or contact the Weight Adding Department at Weatherbys.
