FRITZ & FRIEDA WEINVIERTEL DAC GRÜNER VELTLINER 2020

ORIGIN &

Poysdorf is situated in the northeastern part of the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The soils are dominated by loess and loam with some sand and gravel. The grapes for Fritz & Frieda Weinviertel DAC were picked from different surrounding the small town of Poysdorf. A major part of the grapes comes from the single Höbartsgrub, a small, remote valley where the thrive on soft slopes dominated by calcareous loess. The Pannonian climate influence in the Weinviertel results in generally warm summers and mild winters. Cool air streams from the Alps lower night temperatures in autumn and help preserve the crisp acidity and delicate fruit aromas in the wines. Sometimes winters are icy cold due to cold air streams from the north.

GRAPE VARIETY Grüner Veltliner is an indigenious Austrian grape variety and yields a multiplicity of different styles that perfectly reflect the terrioir and microclimate in which it grows. The Weinviertel offers perfect conditions for cultivating Grüner Veltliner. This grape variety profits from the somewhat cooler climate which helps to retain its elegance and balance. The grape is known for its discreetly spicy character. More than 60% of our vineyards are planted with Grüner Veltliner. Lighter style Grüner Veltliners are particularly elegant and refreshingly crisp, with delicate fruit aromas of apples and pears. More full bodied examples offer ripe, exotic fruit aromas, perfectly balanced acidity and impressive depth on the palate.

WINEMAKING DETAILS Our vineyards are cultivated in the classical Lenz Moser trellis system. The average yield is 7000 kg/ha. The average age of the vines is 15 years. In the vineyard we focus on working sustainably. Diversity in the vineyards is guaranteed by bringing out cover crops from our own organic agriculture.

In the cellar we aim to preserve the typical varietal fruit character and to produce wines that reflect their origin.
