Situated in the picturesque Ardennes adjacent to the small town of Stavelot, the circuit hosted its first Grand Prix in 1925 utilising the roads between Malmedy and Stavelot and continued to evolve until 1979 when the circuit was reduced in length from 14KM to 7KM, a significant change on the grounds of safety and one that ensured that it remains the home of the Belgian Grand Prix. While half the length of the original circuit and corners such as the Masta Kink have been consigned to the history books, it retains the character of the original circuit. The first and final sectors remain exceptionally fast, while the newer section between Malmedy and Stavelot is tighter in nature, rewarding those running higher downforce.
