During his career Mark has worked directly with drivers including Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard and Ayrton Senna, and also spent time as part of Jenson Button's management team. Since 2005 Mark has also co-owned his own racing team, Status Grand Prix based at Silverstone in the UK, which won the 2009 A1GP World Cup of Motor sport, has scored multiple victories in the GP3 feeder-series to Formula One and competes in the Le Mans sports car racing series. Status has three times won the 'Best Presented Team' Award, setting the benchmark in professionalism and presentation. Today Mark heads a sports investment group, sits on the board of Status Grand Prix and uses his vast experience of the Formula One industry to work with teams, sponsors and drivers. He also makes regular appearences in the media, Notably with Sky News, and in 2012 is an expert pundit and commentator at Formula One events with ESPN Star Sports, broadcasting to 24 countries and 36 million F1 fans in Asia. -

However, when he returned to competition he was near invincible. Formula Ford was the accepted career path for s karters and, although he found the cars unwieldy and unappealing at first, his Formula Ford Festival victory in reflected his ability to adapt almost instantly to new demands. His graduation to Formula 3 went perfectly and, thanks to Eddie Jordan, F was going exactly according to plan until The Accident. In a collision caused by the mercurial and that is being kind Gregor Foitek, Herbert suffered appalling injuries to his legs at Brands Hatch in August It is the chapters that describe that accident and its aftermath that partly redeem this book. The question that haunts the reader, if not as much as it must the author, is just what would Herbert have achieved had he not been injured? He adapted to his injuries well enough to become a good Grand Prix driver but I suspect he would have been a great one if the cards had fallen differently. The story of his Formula One years is well known and, whilst the book has few real revelations, neither Flavio Briatore Benetton F1 boss nor teammate Michael Schumacher are shown in the best of lights. -

There have been a number of requests on the blog this week to retain the Chain. Chris: I don’t think we’re allowed to. Me: Because of copyright reasons? We could create our own version of the Chain. Chris: Like we did with this one. Me: Yea, takes a little bit of time, though. Chris: It does take you a long time, and while we’re waiting, I’m quite happy with my theme tune. Me: Fair enough. Hit me up some F1 news. Good Week/Bad Week Chris: It’s been a good week for Jean Todt, as he takes steps to sound even more like Max Mosley. He’s now encouraging F1 teams to cut costs even further and help bring the barriers to entry to the sport down. Does that sound familiar? Me: It does and given the event that may have happened during the course of the weekend, which we won’t go into now, but we might have to address later on, he may find his way slightly clearer than he previously thought. Chris: It’s been a bad week for Renault, as although Alonso is saying he’s patient enough to wait for an improvement in performance, he’s also made mention of the fact that he has a getout clause in his contract. -

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup celebrates its anniversary: For 20 years now the world’s fastest international one-make race series has run as support to the Formula 1, thrilling fans around the globe. On 22 July the 212th race takes off in Hockenheim. Here are the most interesting facts and figures from the flagship of Por- sche’s 19 makes cup series. The first Supercup race took place on 25 April 1993 as support to the European Grand Prix in Imola. Victory at the inaugural race in the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Fer- rari went to Uwe Alzen. The longest race was the 152.268 kilometre event that took place on 25 June 2011 as part of the Porsche Carrera World Cup on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The most successful guest driver was Mika Häkkinen. In 1993, the eventual For- mula 1 World Champion won the races in Monaco and Budapest. Over the 20 years, 31 Formula 1 pilots have contested the Porsche Supercup – including Derek War- wick, Ivan Capelli, Arturo Merzario, Marc Surer, Nicola Larini, Jacques Laffite, Thierry Boutsen, Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Irvine and Patrick Tambay as well current F1 pilots Bruno Senna and Timo Glock.
