Press Release July 20, 2012 No Press Release July 20, 2012 No. M 66/12 20 years of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: The most interesting facts and figures Supercup superlatives Stuttgart. The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup celebrates its anniversary: For 20 years now the world’s fastest international one-make race series has run as support to the Formula 1, thrilling fans around the globe. On 22 July the 212th race takes off in Hockenheim. Here are the most interesting facts and figures from the flagship of Por- sche’s 19 makes cup series. The first Supercup race took place on 25 April 1993 as support to the European Grand Prix in Imola. Victory at the inaugural race in the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Fer- rari went to Uwe Alzen. The longest race was the 152.268 kilometre event that took place on 25 June 2011 as part of the Porsche Carrera World Cup on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The most successful guest driver was Mika Häkkinen. In 1993, the eventual For- mula 1 World Champion won the races in Monaco and Budapest. Over the 20 years, 31 Formula 1 pilots have contested the Porsche Supercup – including Derek War- wick, Ivan Capelli, Arturo Merzario, Marc Surer, Nicola Larini, Jacques Laffite, Thierry Boutsen, Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Irvine and Patrick Tambay as well current F1 pilots Bruno Senna and Timo Glock. Former team boss Eddie Jordan and Formula 1 race director Charlie Whiting also took up the challenge. The great number of world champions amongst the guest drivers hailed from motorbike racing: Giacomo Agostini, Sito Pons, Kevin Schwantz, Luca Cadalora, Lo- Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Then comes the world rally champion faction: Björn Waldegard, Walter Röhrl, Ari Vatanen, Stig Blomqvist and Massimo Biasion. The most victories went to Patrick Huisman. All in all, the Dutchman won 24 races – the first in 1996 at Hockenheim, the last (for now) in 2007 in Spa-Francorchamps. René Rast ranks second with 18 wins, followed by Uwe Alzen and Wolf Henzler each with 14 wins. The most wins in one season were achieved by Wolf Henzler. In the year of his title in 2004 the current Porsche works driver clinched nine wins from twelve races. The most wins on a specific race track went to Patrick Huisman and Wolf Henzler. The Dutchman won in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2007 in Spa-Francorchamps as well as 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2005 in Silverstone. Wolf Henzler secured victory in Indi- anapolis in 2002, 2003 and at two races in 2004. His four straight wins on one circuit is a Supercup record. The most championship titles were secured by Patrick Huisman. “Mr. Supercup” from the Netherlands celebrated four overall wins: 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Brit- ain’s Richard Westbrook (2006, 2007), the Dutchman Jeroen Bleekemolen (2008, 2009) and Germany’s René Rast (2010, 2011) were all champions twice. The tightest title fight was in 1997 when Patrick Huisman and Oliver Mathai were neck and neck at the end of the season with 128 points. Because Huisman had three wins to his credit and Mathai had just one, the Dutchman took home the trophy. The largest gap in points at the end of the season was held by Jeroen Bleeke- molen when he won his first title in 2008. The Dutchman had a 72 point advantage over vice-champion Damien Faulkner. The Supercup record winner took off from the first grid spot 18 times, followed by René Rast, who has scored 17 pole-setting times in qualifying. The most pole positions in one season were posted by Joerg Bergmeister (2001) and Wolf Henzler (2004). In their title winning seasons they took off from pole posi- tion eight times. The greatest number of fastest race laps was achieved by Frenchman Emmanuel Collard and René Rast with 15 each, followed by Uwe Alzen (12). The most successful Supercup nation is Germany with 103 wins, followed by the Netherlands (36), France (22) and Great Britain (18). After that comes Monaco with eight wins, all of them secured by Stéphane Ortelli. At the tail end of the nations’ championship is Australia with one win. The winners of the 211 Supercup races to date hail from twelve different count- ries. Poland was the last nation to join the circle of winners in 2011. The fastest Supercup lap was turned by Italy’s Alessandro Balzan. During qualify- ing for the Monza round in 2011, the guest driver from the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia snatched pole position with an average of 188.461 km/h. The most Supercup races were contested in Monaco and Budapest. On these cir- cuits, the Supercup has raced every year since 1993. Only one Supercup race was held on the Norisring (1993) and on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (2011). The longest race track, on which a Supercup race was contested, is the Nürbur- gring-Nordschleife (including the Grand Prix track) at 25.378 kilometres. The shortest is the Norisring at just 2.3 kilometres. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. • LEARNING from the BEST Gabriel Masfurroll
LEARNING FROM THE BEST Gabriel Masfurroll Foreword I first met Gabriel Masfurroll in the seventies, when he was a teenager and a competitive swimmer. At that time, swimming played a very important part in my life because the European Championships held in Barcelona in 1970, in which I participated actively, were an excellent yardstick for the Olympic Games of 1992. Masfurroll was living in the Residencia Joaquín Blume in Barcelona, run by my friend Ricardo Sánchez, and we had good friends in common such as Santiago Esteva and Maria Paz Corominas, swimmers who in their day were key figures in Spanish sport. I shall never forget something ‘Gaby’, as his friends call him, said to me when he was still very young: “Mr. Samaranch, when I grow up I want to be like you and match your achievements. I also love sport and believe I can do a lot for it”. It comes as no surprise to me, then, to see Masfurroll holding positions of responsibility in leading sporting institutions. A few years later, I met up with “Gaby” again when he was head of the Quirón Clinic in Barcelona. Since then we have kept in touch on a regular basis. We have met and written to each other on numerous occasions and I recall a beautiful picture, on display at the headquarters of the Olympic Committee in Lausanne, which he gave me on one of his visits. I have followed his career very closely over these years and that phrase “when I grow up I want to be like you”, made me take a keen interest in both his personal and professional development.

Press Release May 3, 2015 No. M 50/15 Tudor United SportsCar Championship, round 4 in Laguna Seca/USA Victory for the 911 GT America – podium for the 911 RSR Stuttgart. A successful outcome to an eventful race weekend for Porsche’s GT teams: At Laguna Seca/USA, the Porsche works pilots Patrick Pilet (France) and Mi- chael Christensen (Denmark) scored the first podium of the year for Porsche North America, clinching third place in the GTLM class in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship after a sensational charge through the field in the 911 RSR. Ameri- cans Patrick Lindsey and Spencer Pumpelly celebrated their maiden win of the season with the 911 GT America in the GTD class. On Saturday, the Porsche Man- they team had already snatched two GTE-Pro-class podium spots in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps: With the 911 RSR, Frédéric Makowiecki (France) and Richard Lietz (Austria) were flagged off in second, with Kévin Estre (France) and Sven Müller (Germany) concluding their strong WEC debut in third place. At Laguna Seca, Patrick Pilet turned heads when he overtook two competitors right at the start of the race on the 3.601-kilometre dune circuit not far from Monterey. At the wheel of his 470 hp 911 RSR, which is based on the seventh generation of the iconic 911 sports car, and last year won the American long distance classics at Day- tona, Sebring and Petit Le Mans, he then set out in pursuit of the leader. However, when the Frenchman pulled in for his first pit stop shortly before the end of a safety car phase, and the field went green again whilst he was still in the pits, he suddenly found himself at the back of the strongly-represented GT field with Porsche North America’s #911 Porsche 911 RSR.

  • Alex Rins Profile
ALEX RINS PROFILE Alex Rins lex Rins was born on December 8th, 1995 in Barcelona, Spain to Rafael and Victoria. His first contact with the world of motorsport occurred very early in his Álife, as is so often the case with riders in World Championship racing! The first time he had a go on a motorised machine, Álex was only three. It was in 1998, when he was able to ride a quad that he had been given as a present. It was only his first try, but it would leave a significant and permanent mark on him. Three years later, in 2001, a couple of friends of his father, Rafa, encouraged him to put Álex on a motorcycle just as a test. Rafa put his son on a Lem when he was four, and it seems that experience changed the rest of his life. It was enough to make him finally park the quad and start to dream of owning his own bike. Because of his insistence, Rins fulfilled his dream two years later and his parents ended up buying him a 50cc KTM motocross bike. GROWING UP On the Constantí circuit he nurtured his passion and began to train with his motorcycle. In Moto2 he didn’t let anyone down. In his first year, Álex was more than successful, The following year, in 2003, thanks in great part to Montse Costa, he was able to participate closing the season with the runner-up title and again receiving the Rookie of the Year in the Catalan and Aragonese Championships, obtaining a victory in the latter.
