This series covers nuclear safety, radiation safety, transport safety and waste safety, and also general safety (that is, of relevance in two or more of the four areas), and the categories within it are Safety Fundamentals, Safety Requirements and Safety Guides. • Safety Fundamentals (silver lettering) present basic objectives, concepts and principles of safety and protection in the development and application of atomic energ peacefur yfo l purposes. • Safety Requirements (red lettering) establis requiremente hth s o that t t musme e b t ensure safety. These requirements, which are expressed as 'shall' statements, are governed by the objectives and principles presented in the Safety Fundamentals. • Safety Guides (green lettering) recommend actions, conditions or procedures for meeting safety requirements. The greater the radiological risk posed by the material being moved, the more stringent become the performance standards for the packaging that can be authorized to contain it. These principles have been expanded since 1961 into a set of regulations that have been responsible for safely moving the ever-growing number and complexity of radioactive material shipments throughou worlde requiremente tth Th . IAEA'e th f so s Regulations Safee th r Transportfo f Radioactiveo Material are incorporated into UN regulations, as well as the requirements of other international transport organizations. They are widely implemented by the IAEA's Member States either by reference, direct adoption in national legislation or through compliance with modal regulations. currene Th t editiotranspore th f no t Regulation
