  • “Patna's Drawings” Album
    Mughal miniatures share these basic characteristics, but they also incorporate interesting innovations. Many of these deviations results from the fact that European prints and art objects had been available in India since the establishment of new trading colonies along the western coast in the sixteenth century. Mughal artists thus added to traditional Persian and Islamic forms by including European techniques such as shading and at- mospheric perspective. It is interesting to note that Eu- ropean artists were likewise interested in Mughal paint- ing—the Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn collected and copied such works, as did later artists such as Sir Joshua Reynolds and William Morris. These images continued to interest westerners in the Victorian era, during the period of Art Nouveau, and even today. [For a demon- stration of Persian miniature painting, see http://vimeo. com/35276945.] The DepicTion of The RuleR in Mughal MiniaTuRe painTing While Humayun was largely responsible for the im- portation of Persian painters to India, it was under Ak- bar that Mughal miniature painting first truly flourished. Akbar maintained an imperial studio where more than a hundred artists illustrated classical Persian literary texts, as well as the Mahabharata, the great Hindu epic that the emperor had translated into Persian from its original Sanskrit. Akbar also sponsored various books describing his own good deeds and those of his ancestors. Such books were expansive—some were five hundred pages long, with more than a hundred miniature paintings illustrat- portrait of the emperor shahjahan, enthroned, ing the text. There are decisive verses to that effect. Being the last Prophet in the chain of prophethood no one ever shall now succeed him to that status or dignity "Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah (SWT) is Aware of all things."     Mr Chairman, ladies and gentlemen I deem it an honour to be addressing the Jalsa Salana on a subject that will give a glimpse into the pure character of the Imam of this age. A life modelled on the example of his master the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). The translation of the 9th verse of Sura Maidah that I recited is; ‘O ye who believe! Be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness in equity and let not a peoples’ enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice. Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is well aware of what you do.’ The other is from sura Yasin verse 31; ‘Alas for My servants! There comes not a Messenger but they mock at him’. History bears witness that this indeed forms part of the life of every Messenger of God The Holy Prophet (saw), was known as Al Ameen by the Meccans but as soon as he made his claim, he was met with ridicule and persecution from those very same people. The Promised Messiah (as) , prior to his claim was championed as the saviour of Islam, but no sooner under Divine command had he made his claim that he too faced bitter opposition. He always displayed patience, sympathy and kindness to those who opposed him, this is the subject I must speak on today. Today we live in a world filled with hate, violence and rancour. The incidents of the Promised Messiah (as) kindness even to his opponents are a lesson for humanity.

He was educated primarily at Municipal Board School, and then American Mission High School. Though indisposed, he secured first position in the school in matriculation examination when he was only fourteen years of age. He graduated (in first grade) from Govt. College Lahore in 1911 and was the first Indian student who topped London University in LLB final in 1914. He started his career as a lawyer at Sialkot in 1915. Though young for his age and experience, he was elected as a lecturer at Law College Lahore in 1919. He started his political career with selection as a member in Punjab Legislative Assembly in 1926. He successfully pleaded the cause of Muslims with the Indian Round Table Conference held in London in 1930, 1931 and 1932.

    IQBAL AND TAQDIR by: Dr. Mansoor Alam Part I Allama Iqbal has written so much about the concept of taqdir that it may require a complete book to fully explain and justify his views on this difficult issue. But in a nutshell he says: "The world of plants and animals is subject to taqdir. A Momin is subject to nothing except the orders of Allah (SW) (i.e., Quran)." On the other hand, seeing the condition of the present Muslims, he said: "The actions of Muslims these days is predicated on taqdir. (This, despite the fact that) the taqdir of Allah (SW) was always the driving force behind the will of their ancestors." "Muslims these days use the excuse of ‘taqdir’ in order to justify their inaction and irresponsibility towards Islam." (To some there may seem to be a contradiction in this view of taqdir given by Iqbal. But, according to Iqbal this contradiction arises due to the wrong concept of taqdir which the present Muslims in general have come to accept, due mainly to the Magian influence on Islam) One very important point to note is that Iqbal talks here about Allah’s (SW) taqdir and not man’s taqdir. Thus, according to him there is no man’s taqdir. At first, this may sound strange because Muslims have, by and large, always thought in terms of man’s taqdir whenever this topic is discussed. We will shortly see that the concept of taqdir presented by Quran and eloquently explained by Iqbal removes this (apparent) contradiction. First of all, let us find the root meaning of the arabic word (taqdir) which was prevalent at the time of the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions.
