-1- Steve Hamilton Hamilton became the sixth baseball coach at MSU in 1976, taking over for John "Sonny" Allen. Hamilton enjoyed a flourishing collegiate career at MSU, playing on championship teams in basketball, baseball and track. During his basketball career, Hamilton established school records for rebounds in a game (38), rebounds in a season (543), rebounds in a four-year career (1,675), best rebounding average in a season (20.1), and best rebounding average in a career (16.4). He is the No. 4 all-time scorer at MSU with 1,829 points. He paced the Eagles to OVC championships in 1956 and 1957 and was named an All-American in 1957. Hamilton also was a leader on the mound as he hurled the Eagles to the conference title in 1957. He was selected Athletic Director Player of the Year in Kentucky that season. Hamilton's 11 years of experience have been attractive to many high school baseball recruits. The southpaw played for the , Washington Senators, , Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, and . He eventually came up with the slow, arching pitch known to many as the " Folly Floater". He was a top relief with the Yankees for almost eight seasons and played in two World Series. After retiring from professional baseball in 1972, Hamilton became manager of the Johnson City Yankees of the Appalachian League in 1973. He also served as pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers in 1975.

-3- Frank Spaniol Brad Phillips Assistant Coach Graduate Assistant Former Eagle baseball player Frank Spaniol is in his first season as an assistant baseball coach at his alma mater. Born in Covington, Ky., Spaniol was raised in San Diego, Calif., and went to high school at Serra High School. He was an all-county and all league baseball standout. He played two years for Mesa Community College in San Diego before coming to MSU in 1982. He played two seasons for the Eagles and was on the 1983 Ohio Valley Conference championship team. Spaniol earned a bachelor's degree in physical education-secondary education from MSU in 1984. He Bobby Hamilton then spent one year as a baseball coach at Serra High Student Coach School. He returned to MSU the following year and earned a master's degree in physical education while assisting with the baseball team. In 1986 he was the baseball coach at Plantation High Sc hool in Plantation, Fla. Spaniol began working on a doctorate degree in exercise physiology at Ole Miss in 1987 and will complete that degree within the next year. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Spaniol is married to the former Cheryl Forrest of Louisville.
