Good arguments, too repetitiveBy revprofThere are some interesting and useful arguments in this book. The least interesting argument is the main one (that maoism didn't emerge until after Mao), and the more interesting ones you get along the way (about dogmatism, what science is, etc.). It takes forever to get to these nuggets because the author is constantly, constantly repeating themselves, and in detail. It's not as if there are some reminders throughout the text to help the reader along the way, there are constant repetitions of whole reasonings. It gets incredibly tiresome.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great bookBy CityChickenI loved this book. I canrsquo;t speak for everyonemdash;obviouslymdash;but my questions were largely ones about clarification: what makes Maoism ldquo;Maoismrdquo;? How is it distinct from ldquo;Stalinismrdquo;? What makes Maoism superior to Trotskyism? Finally, the million dollar question: How can Maoism help us overcome capitalism in the variety of contexts we occupy? If you too have those questions, CR is definitely the book you want to read. I wonrsquo;t give a chapter by chapter breakdown- thatrsquo;s your job. Some things I really loved about the book:1) I have a better understanding about the meaning of ldquo;failurerdquo; for the left. Why should we privilege Marxism Leninism Maoism in the present over, say, an anarchistrsquo;s theory about organization when none of us have succeeded in overthrowing capitalism for good?2) This sentence: ldquo; In essence, Marxism Leninism is correct while at the same time, Marxism Leninism is incorrect.rdquo; BUY THIS BOOK ASAP.3) Class and Party. What could be a more contentious topic than the most immediate criticism launched by detractors of Marxism Leninism that the Party ends up reproducing the relations of power the revolution itself was supposed to demolish?4) Class and identity. JMPrsquo;s treatment about the tension between identity politics and revolutionary communism is simply one of the best available, and itrsquo;s one of the most explosive areas of misunderstanding and hostility for communists.5) Revisionism was a dusty old concept I understood poorly until I read about it two days ago in CR. Now I walk around acting like I wrote a book on the subject.I strongly recommend CR and believe it will soon become a standard reference text for organizers and communists in the near future.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Revolutionary ScienceBy EmberContinuity and Rupture is a thorough and engaging study of what it means to be revolutionary. As I started the book I was a bit daunted by some of the concepts being discussed, but I kept going, and it all began to click. This book is useful for anyone who considers themselves a revolutionary regardless of their ideology because it provides a framework for how to study and learn from the past and apply that to our practice in the future. I would highly recommend. A philosophical examination of the theoretical terrain of contemporary Maoism premised on the counter-intuitive assumption that Maoism did not emerge as a coherent theory until the end of the 1980s.
