Why are we putting on this SCTJG Open Day?

• To try and create a positive environment for all players/parents/carers, where they can enjoy a fun day of football.

• Positive relationship within the junior girls’ section of the club – to get to know each other, work together as a team, build on communication and social skills.

• The players have missed so much time off playing football, we wanted to create a positive, fun, engaging football day where all the girls can mix, socialise and make new friends within the club.

We first started a Girls team back in 2009/2010 season where we only had one team, when we were based at Linderidge Road. Unfortunately, that lasted one season and it was another two seasons then before we ran another team at Under 11s which again only ran for two seasons. Four seasons ago we managed to run two teams and then two seasons ago we succeeded in getting up to four teams! We are starting to get noticed for being a Community Club and that we could offer football for all not just boys. As some of you know we get a lot of interest from the soccer school we run on a Saturday morning at Bishop Walsh, we advertise this through our social media sites. We are also now starting to see a pathway into first team football starting to be created, as 3 players from our u17s girls team have already duel signed for our ladies first team! This is amazing to see as only two seasons ago we only had a few teams and now we’re starting to see a real development within the girls’ section of the club! Steve Banks, Sutton Coldfield Town Juniors Chairman has said ‘Sutton Coldfield Town Juniors FC is currently going from strength to strength. 6 years ago, we implemented a plan to develop the club in all aspects. Boys/Girls/Disability football teams and to improve our Football pitch quality and Club Facilities at our home venue, Bishop Walsh School. This plan started with increasing our Sunday boys’ teams, then developing Saturday boys’ football and developing a pathway through to U17/18 flood lite league and onto U21 and the Seniors 1st team. We tried extremely hard to grow our girls’ section, but with limited success. 3 years ago, we started working with Aston Villa Foundation with 2 teams being formed, to join the one team we had in place, we were on the move. We opened a Girls Wildcat centre at our Saturday Soccer school, we started a new U9 team last year with 2 further teams switching clubs to become part of our girls’ section vision. Next season will see us enter 9 girls’ sides across the

To further enhance or commitment to girls’ football, we have appointed Lauran Whittington as our Girls Development officer. One of Laurens main goals is to bring all our girls’ teams together so they can all feed off each other and to develop a close link to our senior Ladies teams at Cole Lane. We are already seeing the fruits of her work, with today being an excellent example. The last part of our plan will be to introduce a Disability team and thus enable us to offer football to anyone. The future looks very good as we continue to grow and long may it continue. I hope you all have a great day today and thank you for your support.’ Richard Birch, Sutton Coldfield Town Juniors Secretary has said ‘For this season coming I am very pleased to announce that to date I have already entered 9 girls’ teams into Central Warwick Girls Football League u9 ,2 x u10s, u11, u12 u13 u15, u16 & u18 the club’s vision is to run Girls teams from under 8s through too u18s so you can see we still have some gaps we want to fill. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lauren Whittington, who we asked to become our Girls Football Development Officer earlier this season, which she accepted, for all of her hard work and encouragement she is putting in to helping us grow the girls’ section. Also, not forgetting all of the other managers and coaches for their time and effort they also put into the team’s week in and week out in all weathers it very appreciated! I would like to sign off by wishing you all a fantastic day today I hope you all enjoy yourselves and look forward to seeing all again next season.’ Our girls’ teams next fixtures: U9s vs Haunchwood Sports Juniors. The Ladies team were formed in 2015 as Boldmere St Michaels. After 2 seasons at Boldmere the Ladies became Sutton Coldfield Town. The first 3 seasons saw the Ladies finish as League Champions with no League defeats in any of those 3 seasons. The Ladies currently play in the West Midlands Regional Women’s League - Premier Division, which is at Tier 5 of the Women’s Football Pyramid. The Ladies have 3 players who have made at least 100 appearances, in captain Ruth Graham, Hayley Chatwin and Laura Fryer. The Ladies currently have 15 players (including our u17s girls players Holly, Ameile and Lucy) who are 25-years-old or younger and have been very much geared towards involving young players at every opportunity. The ladies have accumulated 7 trophies since their inception in 2015, 3 x League Championships, 3 x League Cups, 1 x Post Lockdown Tournament. The team's all-time record is competitive matches is P131 W106 D10 L14 F650 A124, with a win percentage of 81%. Andy Burman, Sutton Coldfield Town Ladies Manager has said ‘The Ladies squad won the Post Lockdown Cup last Sunday following a mini league and knockout competition, in five games scoring 14 goals and conceding just 2. A big crowd watched the final at Lichfield City FC where the Ladies beat Coventry Sphinx one goal to nil in a hard-fought game with few chances with speedy forward Brittney Civil getting the winner. It was pleasing to see many juniors at the game giving their support to the Ladies! We try and build our sides on a solid defence of three or four, depending on opposition, then look to break wide where we have pace and good crossing ability. Fitness and set plays also are a major part of our preparation for games as is attention to detail. With fantastic off field support, our players get the best medical care, feedback through video and match analysis together with still

Throw in quality kit, excellent facilities and coaching, any player would find this hard to beat elsewhere. We pride ourselves on creating the whole atmosphere and package whilst being as professional as we can be. Moving forward for girls and ladies’ football! It is truly exciting times for girls and ladies’ football at Coles Lane as the club take further steps forward to bring forward new talent coming through the ranks, creating a pathway for those who show promise. Three of the under 17 squad currently train with us and two have been involved in squads for the Post Lockdown Cup. Ameile Dennis has played for the Ladies team and Holly Payton has been in the match day squad with Lucy Morris making up the trio who join us for training. Having watched the U17s and some of the younger girls training we clearly have many girls who have talent, dedication and the ability to progress in the game. Major changes in September 2022 will see the new Sutton Coldfield Town Development squad move into place to offer adult ladies’ football to younger players with the support of some more experienced heads. It also sees the start of the clubs Girls Academy offering a pathway to a degree with our University partner for 16–18-year-olds. As you can see, very exciting times ahead for girls and ladies’ football at Sutton Coldfield Town FC.’ A final thought from Lauren Whittington, Sutton Coldfield Town Junior Girls Female Development Officer, ‘I hope you enjoy your day today. It has been a great pleasure to get to know so many of our young, talented players over the past couple of months. I am very excited for the future at Sutton Coldfield Town Juniors Girls and I feel honoured to be a part of this. Thank you for your support, its greatly appreciated.’
