The funds raised are all for direct benefit of leprosy affected persons and disabled children – many of whom you will meet – . January 13th to 28th, 2015 Starting at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (Direct flight or via Hyderabad) – the most pleasant warm weather time in this part of India. With our experience of organising previous bike and train ride tours we are offering an easy to do bike ride – train journeys in some of the most fascinating and unique areas of northern Andhra Pradesh and into western Odisha (Orissa). *Bike riding is not more than 20 to 24 KM per day. Bus follows riders and available for non riders to come on trip. EASY because we will supply you with an ultra modern geared Atlas bicycles; you don’t have to bring your own which is an airline hassle and costly. Your first stay will be in New Hope Children’s Community Village – and do 3 days volunteer work if you wish – gardening, teaching English, carpentry, cooking. Go by train to see one of the world’s oldest known caves in the hills on the way to Araku and see Tribal Kondh villages as you ride through the countryside. New Hope is now responsible for the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation First Aid Centre in a small town called Chilakalapalli. It has a 12 bed Ward. To get there we will ride to Vizianagaram from the starting point which is in Visakhapatnam* New Hope Kothavalasa Community Centre. Take a train to Bobbili and ride Bikes through rural country side to the Centre. From there ride through villages to highway and up to a stop at small Indian town. Travel to Muniguda and see the Community Centre with the Hospital where so many people have given to have poverty line women and aged leprosy patients receive cataract eye surgery. Meet the disabled children of Namaste House and stay in the Centre for 3 days, meeting Tribal women who will come down from the hills on the way to market. Then travel by train to Bargarh nearest to Jhan Jhur Leprosy Colony. Ride to Jhan Jhur Leprosy Colony - This will be a contrast to other centres of New Hope and shows a different village lifestyle. Train next morning to return to Kothavalasa Children Community Centre This will be a visual experience as you cross cultures, cropping and harvest season. Pick up from City or Airport and travel to New Hope Community Jan. 13 0 Centre. Afternoon introduction with children. Orientation morning after breakfast. Discussion with Director on New Hope as an organisation how it has evolved. Walk around New Hope Community Centre in groups with senior students or staff to explain how a day happens at the Centre. (Select an activity that you would like to Jan. 14 1 spend time at) Jan. 15 2 Cycle Alamanda in morning through rural villages different to other farming areas. Jan. 16 3 Train to Araku Valley 'hill station'. Ride bicycles through rural area. Stay overnight. Travel downhill by bus through coffee plantations, incredible scenic valley views. Stop at Borra Jan. 17 4 Caves - oldest in world. Return and stay at Community Centre, Kothavalasa. Train to Bobbili and ride Bikes through rural country side to the Gandhi Memorial Centre for Leprosy patients. New Hope now has the management of this Centre. Evening train to Jan. 18 5 Muniguda. Muniguda Community Centre includes Eye Hospital for free cataract eye ops to Leprosy patients and rural poverty line women Tribal women. Supported by Friends of New Hope & Free Jan. 19 6 Life Church. The Community is also home to a group of Challenged Children in their Namaste House and Social Needs School. The aged in need of custodial care leprosy cured people also their home Jan. 20 7 there. An integrated Community. Tuesday is also Dohikal local weekly Market Day visit. You are free to spend time with everyone there and hopefully during your visit you will see people admitted for eye surgery; Visit to local Tribal Community Centre in hills nearby. In the Jan. 21 8 afternoon catch a train to Bargarh. Bargarh is the nearest town to Jhan Jhur Leprosy Colony. One of a number of such colonies that benefit from Love Bundle gifts, protective food wear and Care. Ride to Jhan Jhur Leprosy Colony - This will be a contrast to other centres of New Hope and shows a different village Jan. 22 9 lifestyle. Programmes. Return Hotel and leave next morning for Kothavalasa Jan. 23 10 9.30am - Train to Kothavalasa - arriving early evening at Community Centre. Jan. 24 11 Activities Day with children. Volunteer time in school or garden Jan. 25 12 Shared Prayer Service in Morning - Afternoon with children - Social Drama evening. January 26th Celebrate India’s Republic Day and Australia Day with children – Social Jan. 26 13 entertainment and sports day Activity Day in Community. There are multitudes of activities - Painting a room, gardening including pruning, teaching an English class, Cooking pancakes and making a jam with senior Jan. 27 14 girls - endless and the odd game of cricket/volley ball will creep in.
