Everything should be in your words Could be longer & more descriptive Period 6 C Princess Diana It was July 1st, 1961; Diana Spencer was born into one of the most royal British families. Diana was not born a princess however… that came later on. Up until her birth, the family was excitedly expecting a baby boy. They were somewhat disappointed when Diana was born; this was the family’s third daughter. Her sister Sarah was the first child born in 1955 and Jane in 1957. Her parents desperately wanted to have a son to carry on the family’s name. The first born son, baby John, was born on January 12, 1960. (Mattern) However, his life was short lived as he was severely disabled and died only ten hours after birth. Finally the Spencer family welcomed a baby boy in 1964, his name was Charles. (Mattern) The Spencer family lived in a large estate in Norfolk, England. The house was given to her grandmother by King George V, because they were good friends with his son. Dianna’s bedroom overlooked acres of open fields with grazing cows. There were fish and ducks and many wild animals on the land. The estate was even located on the grounds of the royal family’s estate, though she never really new Prince Charles growing up. (Johnson-Jone) Diana felt she was an irritation to her parents since she was not born a boy. There was a lot of strain in her parent’s marriage as well since the death of baby John. As years passed Diana’s parents began arguing more often than normal. (Mattern) In 1969, at the young age of seven, her parents divorced. Her mother abandoned the family and moved away to London. The children’s lives became very different from what they were used to. Diana became a substitute mom for her very young brother. She comforted him and protected him when he needed it. This painful divorce made Dianna was very sad, guilty and lonely. (Unknown Author) At the age of nine, Diana’s father sent her to an all girls’ boarding school called Riddelsworth Hall, about an hour from home. Her sisters also attended boarding schools growing up. This was common with the upper class families. (Mattern) She was very homesick at first but eventually adjusted. She was known for her shyness. (Unknown Author)Diana had an interest in music, dancing, and loved playing sports. It took a while for young Diana to get used to her new school where she knew no one. Once she adjusted she was known as the kind girl who liked helping the younger children and won prizes for taking the best care of animals. When Dianne was 13 her grandfather died of pneumonia. He had been the seventh Earl Spencer and lived at the ancestral estate of Althrop in Northamtonshire, England. Upon his death her father became the eighth Earl Spencer and moved his family to the estate he had just inherited. Dianna and her sisters also received the titles of Ladies, and her brother was now a Viscount Althrop. (Mattern) In 1977 Dianna’s father remarried. His new wife was Raine, Countess of Dartmouth. None of the children like her. They tormented her with jokes and rudeness. (Mattern) Also in 1977, Diana met Prince Charles for the first time; it was not love at first site. At the time Prince Charles was one of the most eligible bachelors. He was 29 and she was just 16. (Johnson-Jone) Dianna didn’t like school much. She had a hard time with math and after she failed her college exams her father sent her to finishing school, a school for the upper class ladies. Diana didn’t like finishing school and convinced her father to let her leave. She then moved in with her mother and step father Peter Shand-Kydd in London where she looked forward to starting a new life for herself. (Unknown Author) Diana worked as a housekeeper and a nanny. She didn’t need the money; she had an apartment that her parents paid for. It was common for women of her status to do these types of jobs and she wanted to work. Her love for kids influenced her to finally become a kindergarten teacher at the Young England Kindergarten. She was very happy with her life. (Unknown Author) In 1980 Prince Charles and Diana began dating after meeting at one of his polo matches. Their relationship was kept secret, until the press found out. The press always followed the famous couple everywhere they went. (Mattern) Everyone loved her and even the royal family thought she was the one. On February 3rd, 1981, the two went on a date and had dinner at the Buckingham Palace. It was that night Prince Charles proposed to Diana. In July, later that year the couple got married. Millions of people watched what many had called “The wedding of the century”. Diana was officially a princess. A year later, on June 21st 1982, the newlywed welcomed their first child; a boy. They named him William. In 1985 Charles and Diana had a second son, Prince Henry. (Johnson-Jone) Diana loved working with kids and contributing to many charities such as: helping the homeless, people living with HIV and AIDS, and children in need. (Unknown Author) Diana and her husband Prince Charles began having relationship issues. Like every other couple, they had their fights, but it was more than arguing. He was unfaithful and didn’t pay much attention to her. The arguing was happening on a daily basis. Diana began suffering with depression and bulimia. (Unknown Author) In 1992, not only did her father pass away, but she and her husband Prince Charles finally got a divorce. Diana remembered how difficult it was for her when her parents divorced; she didn’t want that for her two kids, and remained loyal to her sons. Her relationship with the Royal family was no more. She was stripped of her title and renamed Lady Dianna. (Mattern) The next four years were not easy but she was the best mother to her children. The royal family tried to control her and make her look bad in the press. She continued charity events and doing what she loved to do, give to the people. Prince Charles was now moving into the spotlight but no one knew the whole story. Lady Diana did an interview with a journalist which was aired on TV with her side of the story, the truth of what caused her divorce. Once it was made public she was pushed into the spotlight. Everyone loved her again except the royal family of course. (Mattern) In 1996 Diana began dating Egyptian film producer Dodi Al-Fayed which caused media to go crazy. Everywhere the couple went the press followed. While vacationing in Paris, and looking in love, the couple got into a car accident while trying to escape the paparazzi on August 30th, 1997. A high level of alcohol was found in the drivers system at the time of the crash. Sadly, Dodi, Diana, and the driver all died. Her last words to the paramedics were, “Tell my boys I love them. “ (Unknown Author) Princess Diana’s funeral was viewed by millions of heartbroken people around the world.
