Rally to help sick children

April 20, 2019: Press Release from Etienne Cormier, President of the Club VTT La Rivière On March 9, we had our annual ATV Run to help sick children and those in need. The purpose of this activity is to help cover the cost of traveling expenses for the parents of sick children who need to travel outside the area to receive specialized care. This year, we have decided to start sponsoring a child in need for one school in each of the regions that is on the club’s territory, which are: Pokemouche, and St-Isidore. This sponsorship involves the purchase of school supplies and other necessary items to begin the school year.

Going back to the activities of the day in question, it was a great success. It started with a parade of about 40 ATVs in the streets of the village of Paquetville, and afterwards they continued their way to Camp Cormier , where many other ATVers and children were waiting for us. Mr. Hermel Albert had prepared some maple sugar and maple sugar toffee on the snow, courtesy of “Sucrerie Marc Chiasson”. Then there was a bonfire in the evening and finally, great fireworks, courtesy of pyrotechnician Bernard Frigault. Several prizes for children and adults were drawn during the evening.

The “Club VTT La Rivière Inc.” wishes to thank all the ATV enthusiasts who participated in this day, our generous sponsors, the village of Paquetville for access to their streets, the presence of the firefighters, René Blanchard, owner of the Camp Cormier, for his welcome and his participation. Finally, a big thank you to the organizing members of the club for your dedication to this good cause. Thank you all, Etienne Cormier

April 13 & 14 : NB ATV Federation Annual General Meeting

2019 Annual General Meeting : 20 years of loyalty: The 2019 General Annual Meeting (AGM) marked the 20th AGM of the New Brunswick All-Terrain Vehicle Federation. For three (3) special delegates, it marked their 20th year of participation in the NB ATV Federation annual general meetings. They are the only three delegates who have never missed one AGM. That is 20 years of dedication. So it was fitting that they be the ones who cut the first piece of cake to commemorate the event. A record of 54 clubs were represented by their delegates.

The photo shows, from left to right, the only three delegates having participated to all 20 NBATVF AGM: Paul Colford, Paul Branscombe and Allison Kent. (photo NBATVF)

The event was held at the Miramichi River Rodd Inn and started early Saturday afternoon. It all started with workshops and Kerrie Hallet, representative for Development of Energy and Resources Department. She announced a mapping project for all the ATV trails in New Brunswick which will take around 2 years to accomplish. This will also give the Federation a new tool for tourism. Afterwards, came Carole Landry Scott from the Bathurst Police Force representing South-East 911. She presented an overview of what to do and what not to do in remote area emergencies. She gave us many tools to improve the response delay. Our Development Coordinator, Jacques Ouellette, then explained what could become a good promoting tool, an ATV tourism and information guide. The Federation will also seek to put in place a marketing strategy including a new social branding and logo. Once again, this year, the Motor Vehicle Safety Enforcement Agency was with us responding to questions. In the past year, they had 13 280 contacts, gave 995 tickets throughout the province.

April 13 & 14 : NB ATV Federation Annual General Meeting (Continued...)

As for J.D. Irving, Robert Fawcett and John Gilbert talked about different new programs with Nature Conservation and the moose’s behavior study. The two men also took the opportunity to announce that a new land access agreement will be signed in the following days for the use of J.D. Irving’s wood lot roads.

Darrell Dorey, representative for the American Income Life followed to explain to the delegates the different advantages of the life insurance coverage for members of our federation. He also brought with him a prize to be drawn. One lucky delegate won himself and brand new pressure washer. Last and to conclude our workshops, the NBATVF Vice-President, Ken Legge, talked about the importance of Risk Management. The NBATVF needs to make the ATV trails safe for all users by using proper signage and making sure that every hazardous situation is quickly dealt with. The banquet supper ended with the cutting of a cake to commemorate the Federation’s 20th anniversary. On the Sunday, the 2019 AGM went on in a respectful and peaceful manner. What mostly caught the atten- tion was the President’s speech mentioning that a few meetings are scheduled in the following weeks with Premier Higgs and that the government seems to wish to review the Off-Road Vehicle Act. This is where people might finally see the new law prohibiting the snowmobiles on ATV trails. This message brought sincere happiness among the delegates. It was also mentioned that the NBATVF will organize a demonstration of non- satisfaction if those discussions are unsatisfactory. It consists in driving downtown Fredericton with ATVs on board the pick-up or the trailer. As for the elections, Ken Legge was re-elected as Vice-President for a 2nd mandate and Paul Branscombe was re-elected for his 11th consecutive mandate, making him the only treasurer the Federation has ever had, winning over his two opponents: Corey Elliott and Albert Lafrance.
