THUNDERBIRDS Written by Peter Hewitt, William Osborne & Michael McCullers Animated scenes of the Thunderbirds on various rescues begin to play as some of the cast and crew names show up. NARRATOR From a secret island in the South Pacific, the courageous Tracy family run an organization called International Rescue. When disaster strikes, anywhere in the world, they are always first on the scene. They go by the name they gave their incredible machines, the Thunderbirds. (Counts down numbers and shows corresponding Thunderbirds) Five, four, three, two, one. Thunderbirds are go! Cuts to live action, Alan Tracy is looking out a school window. But in this family of heroes, there is one son left behind. TEACHER So, gentlemen, we all know that A2 plus B2 equals... C2, that's right. But what happens when we bring in Leonardo Da Vinci's E, F and... (Teacher notices Alan looking out window and not paying attention to the lesson) Mr. Tracy! FERMAT Alan. Alan! Alan's head jerks back from the window and to the teacher who is now standing in front of him. TEACHER How kind of you to come back from outer space, Alan. I trust re-entry wasn't too rough? (Chuckles sarcastically and continues sounding even more annoyed) Here on Earth we've been discussing the Pythagorean theorem. Did any of that happen to sink in? ALAN TRACY I was just... TEACHER Apparently not (she picks up his notebook which he has been doodling in) "Thunderbirds are go." Well, I hope you aren't going anywhere special over spring break, Alan. -

THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO OFFICIAL GUIDE PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Simon & Schuster Uk | 80 pages | 27 Aug 2015 | Simon & Schuster Ltd | 9781471124990 | English | London, United Kingdom Thunderbirds are Go Official Guide PDF Book An anti-technology group calling themselves The Luddites power up an electromagnetic pulse device underneath London, crippling everything that uses electricity, including Thunderbird 2, which is forced to make an emergency landing. Progress is slow until a pair of bumbling intruders attempt to kidnap the ladies in FAB 1. All five Thunderbirds are combined into the Zero-XL as International Rescue begin their deep-space search for Jeff Tracy, only for the Chaos Crew to attempt to disrupt the craft's launch. A large solar flare causes a malfunction at a mining operation on an asteroid, sending it careening towards the sun and endangering its only crewman, Ned Tedford. This episode features elements adapted from the original Thunderbirds episode "Ricochet". They now plan to build a new Zero-X to bring Jeff Tracy home. Deep in the Mariana trench a survey team encounter the TV, a prototype Thunderbird vehicle designed and flown by Jeff Tracy. Fuse escapes just in time but the power plant goes into lock down, trapping Scott and the GDF officers inside along with the Shackleton Beast! On the maiden journey of his brand new hyper-car Tycho Reeves and his passengers are horrified when the vehicle begins to speed up. On the dark side of the planet Mercury the Houseman and Gray mining crawler breaks down after a rocket capsule explodes. Although all episodes mainly include unique characters who have only one appearance, several created for Thunderbirds Are Go make reoccurring appearances often with them being put into new situations they need rescuing from, though overarching storylines for each series focused mainly on the prominent villains for that series and the actions they undertake. -
Thunderbirds Are Go Re-Booting Female Characters in Action Adventure Animation
Thunderbirds Are Go Re-booting Female Characters in Action Adventure Animation Anna Potter This article explores the ways in which children’s television producers are making conscious efforts to include non-traditional gender representations in their shows. The aim of the research was to analyze and explain the complex creative processes that can increase the cultural visibility of diverse female characters in action animation made for school-age children. Thunderbirds Are Go, the 2015 re-boot of the 1960s cult classic Thunderbirds is used here as a case study; the producers of the new series were determined to challenge Thunderbirds’ gender stereotypes, while retaining the lead characters of the original. Using approaches grounded in production culture, media studies and political economy, this research draws on extended interviews with Thunderbirds Are Go execu- tive producer Estelle Hughes. It reveals that despite successful efforts to achieve a more balanced representation of female characters in children’s action animation, commercial forces still exert enormous influence over how these shows are produced, distributed and experienced by their audiences. This article details the efforts of an established producer of children’s television to redress gender imbalance in an animated series, the 2015 re-boot of the Gerry and Sylvia An- derson cult classic Thunderbirds(1965-66) . Drawing on extended interviews with one of Thunderbirds Are Go’s executive producers Estelle Hughes, it examines how individuals can effect change in production norms in children’s television, working within established economic and industrial parameters. Hughes’ efforts to redress gender imbalance in Thunderbirds Are Go focused on increasing female visibility through the inclusion of diverse female characters, minimising stereotypical female behaviour and appearance, and reflecting on and adapting creative processes to improve female representation throughout the production process. -
