Joe Lynn Turner
JOE LYNN TURNER Joe Lynn Turner, is an American singer, known for his works with hard rock bands Deep Purple & Rainbow. Career In a career that spans nearly 30 years and includes over 60 album credits, Joe Lynn Turner ("JLT") remains one of rock and roll's most distinctive, soulful and expressive vocalists. Born August 2, 1951 in Hackensack, New Jersey (U.S.A.), he played the accordion as a child, grew up with an appreciation for classic Rhythm and Blues (R&B) and became an accomplished guitarist in his early teens. In fact, his first band, Filet of Soul, featured singer J.T. Taylor who would later have success with Kool and the Gang. While in high school, Joe formed Ezra, performing original material and cover songs by artists who were a great influence on him: Jimi Hendrix, Free and Deep Purple. In 1976, JLT enjoyed his first taste of national success with Fandango, a band described as an eclectic mix of R&B, pop, country, jazz and melodic rock. Turner sang and played guitar on all of the band's four albums. Fandango toured with numerous artists including The Allman Brothers, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Beach Boys and Billy Joel. After Fandango split, in the first of two incredible twists of Fate, JLT received a phone call from legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Turner's work with Fandango prompted an audition and Blackmore was so impressed that he immediately enlisted Joe in Rainbow, a band that he formed after he left Deep Purple. Ironically, Joe spent his formative years covering Deep Purple songs and now he found himself fronting a band with two former members: Blackmore and Roger Glover.

Foreigner / Cheap Trick - July 20, 2017 Foreigner plans to make this year's 40th anniversary summer tour "a family affair" according to group founder Mick Jones -- including the other acts on the bill and the return of some prodigal sons... The group kicks things off in July with a stop at Jones Beach on Thur, July 20th with longtime pals Cheap Trick and former drummer Jason Bonham and his band. And Mick Jones tells Billboard that original Foreigner members Lou Gramm, Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood will be appearing on select dates. "They're not on the whole tour, but there will be some appearances," Jones says. "It's the right time to do this. I'm looking forward to that and we'll see how it goes, and I'm sure it'll go down well." http://FOREIGNER.jonesbeach.com The reunions will certainly be a highlight during a busy anniversary year for Foreigner. SIX “Roll Over Guitar Heroes, Synthesizers Are Here . .” At the height of new wave’s popularity in the early 1980s, no musical in- strument symbolized the movement’s modern identity more fully than the synthesizer. The synthesizer had ‹rst found its way into rock music at the end of the 1960s, and from the very beginning its ability to produce strik- ing timbres and fantastical sound effects ensured that it would be viewed as a futuristic musical technology. As one new wave keyboardist put it, “As soon as synthesizers came along, everyone said ‘Oh, wow, outer space!’”1 The instrument’s reputation eventually extended beyond these ‹rst im- pressions, especially when musicians realized that the synthesizer could also be used to create grandiose arrangements and solos that imitated and even surpassed the ›exibility and powerful volume of the electric guitar. With its novel sound design and versatility, the synthesizer would become an integral part of the 1970s popular music landscape. For the most part, however, the synthesizer players who held in their hands the “keys to the future” existed as secondary members of the rock band.2 Not until new wave did a legion of synthesizer players truly usurp the lead role tradition- ally accorded the guitar player and push the synthesizer’s modern associa- tions fully into the foreground. England’s Gary Numan emerged in 1979 as the ‹rst fully-›edged syn- thesizer star of the new wave era, largely on the strength of his interna- tional hit single “Cars” and the in›uential accompanying album The Plea- sure Principle, which eschewed electric guitars completely in favor of lead synthesizers.
