If you are unsure of anything, or have any questions check with the - Code Convenor or see Mr. Witts in the sports office.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I’VE REGISTERED FOR MY SPORT? The Code Convenors for each sport will organise meetings and potentially trials via the daily notices or emails so that students can be placed into teams once the season for that sport starts.

4 REGISTRATION UNIFORM

Uniform requirements are kept to a minimum but in all cases the uniform is non-negotiable. Our various sports uniforms are registered for sporting codes and must be adhered to. In codes where students are provided with a uniform by the college, that uniform is only to be worn for that code and in competition only. Failure to return the uniform, or in cases of loss/damage, students will be billed for replacement costs. At

practices and games, no caps (other than the college cap), cargo pants, NEWLANDS COLLEGE jeans or school uniform are to be worn.

If they are sick on the day of a training or game they should contact their coach directly in the morning . Other students

should not be tasked with letting the coach know you are sick. NEWLANDS COLLEGE

It is not fair on the coach or other players if players do not follow these requirements. The same applies for attending games. If you know you are going to be away for a fixture please give the coach as much notice as possible.

Always assume that practices and games are going ahead. Coaches will make contact with players to let them know so do not just take the word of another student.

GAMEDAY APPEARANCE The school has a very proud reputation of students being well turned out for attending fixtures. When pupils come to home fixtures or travel to away games they will need to either be in uniform or - wearing the full college tracksuit/tracksuit pants and college sweatshirt.

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS 7

As part of the sports registration process students will be required to confirm their agreement to abide by the Code of Conduct which states as follows:

Players will:

 Play to the best of their ability and within the rules of the game

 Show respect to other players – both team mates & opponents

 Accept officials’ decisions without gesture or argument

 Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat

8 CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

Alongside the Code of Conduct for players, the college has developed a Code of Conduct for parents. As a college we actively encourage families and friends to support their students but like many schools we are concerned about some of the behaviours demonstrated on the sidelines.

This Code of Conduct has been signed off by the Senior Management Team and as part of the sports registration process parents will be required to confirm their agreement to abide by the Code of Conduct

NEWLANDS COLLEGE Parents will:  Positively encourage and support the efforts of all players

 Refrain from any criticism or abuse directed at officials

 Put an emphasis on genuine effort ahead of victory and encourage players to accept the outcomes of all games, irrespective of the result.

 Recognise good play by either team and never ridicule an individual player in either team

 Display self-control on the side-line – remember young people play sport for their satisfaction not parents or supporters

 Respect the decisions made by the coaches and allow them to do - their job of coaching

 Help to ensure players are punctual to training and games

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS 9

As a parent or student you will hopefully enjoy the sporting experi- ence at Newlands College. On occasions there may be things that hap- pen on and off the field of play that you have concerns about. If that is the case please follow these procedures:

If you have a query or complaint about a coach, player or supporter.

In the first instance you should email/call the Code Convenor of the sport to discuss the matter. They will then decide on the best course of action in conjunction with the sports committee. See the code information page for details of the convenor for that sport

If you have a complaint about another schools team , coaches, officials or supporters

In the first instance you should email/call the Code Convenor of the sport to discuss the matter. They will then decide on the best course of action in conjunction with the sports committee. See the code information page for details of the convenor for that sport.

- Depending on the situation they may then make contact with the Director of Sport at that school and/or contact College Sport Wellington or the relevant regional sports organisation to determine the next course of action.
