Cockles are marine organisms which have the character of filter feeders so that heavy metals can be neutralized naturally through their shells. However, not all heavy metals can be neutralized, so depuration needs to be done. After depuration, histopathological analysis is needed to determine the condition of the soft tissue of the shells so that the disease can be diagnosed through structural changes that occur in the organs that are the main target of pollutants. This study aims to determine the histopathology of antique ark’s mantle (Anadara antiquata) after post-depuration with the filtration of the cockles’ shells. This research method applies an experimental method with scoring histological damage to antique ark’s mantle that ranges from 0 to 3, depending on the level and extent of the changes that occur. After that, the distribution of normal and non-homogeneous data was obtained, and then the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test was conducted. The main parameter is the histopathology of the antique ark’s mantle. Supporting parameters include water quality, namely temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, salinity, levels of heavy metals Pb and Cd, total suspended solid (TSS) and total dissolved solid (TDS). The results of the Kruskal-Wallis statistical analysis shows no significant difference between treatments P0 (Control), P1 (Filter 25%), P2 (Filter 50%), P3 (Filter 75%), and P4 (Filter 100%). -

Most of the species in this family are misplaced into invalid subgenera and Indian arcids are wanted a revision in systematic positon. In the case of Arcidae family; all of the species are treated under Anadara as main genera, however, some authors considered that the Tegillarca genus is only a sub genus of Arcidae family. Anadara is the commercially important genus of bivalves of Arcidae family. These two genera are confused by many taxonomists and some considered that the morphometric changes of Tegillarca are only the habitual adaptation. But the collected samples from the same habitat from the southern part of India is clearly demarked the distinction between Anadara species and Tegillarca species. In this paper the differences between these two genera are illustrated with the help of specimens from the same habitat and with the help of taxonomic literature of these genera. Species level classification was done based on the morphometric characters like peculiarities of (i) periostracum, (ii) cardinal area, (iii) umbo, (iv) adductor muscle scar and (v) pallial line. The specimens were collected from Neendakara, Vizhinjam and Kovalam along with the south west coast and Thiruchendur in Tamil Nadu, south east coast of India. -

ESENIAS Workshop: marine group Athens 12‐13 October 2015 Venue: HCMR ‐ Agios Kosmas, Hellenikon The meeting was attended by Dr Argyro Zenetos (chairperson), Dr Paraskevi Karachle (rapporteur), and Dr Fabio Crocetta from HCMR, Dr Katja Jelic representing Croatia, Dr Petya Ivanova and Dr Elitsa Stefanova, representing Bulgaria and Dr Konstantinos Tsiamis, invited speaker from the Joint Research Center, Italy. 1st DAY Sessions Following a welcome and a round of introductions, A. Zenetos communicated an introductory presentation on the ESENIAS‐TOOLS project aim and objectives (prepared by Dr Teodora Trichkova). The structure of the project with emphasis on the WP related to Marine Alien species was further analysed. The state of art on marine species in ESENIAS was presented by A. Zenetos. Starting from a previous analysis of Marine data in the ESENIAS area (2013: Zenetos & Karachle, 2015 in ESENIAS book), some preliminary data were shown based on the update by September 2015. A preliminary list of species and their distribution have been compiled from all available sources (websites, recent literature, reports). Comparison of 2015 data with those of 2013, shows an inflation of NIS in Black Sea countries (Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey) in 2015. It is believed that this is an artifact due to the bulk of data which were transferred from the AquaNIS website. A need for validation of these data is needed by country experts and taxonomists. To fulfill obligation for task 2.4 ‘Prioritisation of species and preparation of data fact sheets for priority species’ a list with the most invasive species throughout the Mediterranean and the Black Sea at Marine Strategy Framework Directive Area level, was prepared so as to be widely discussed. -

Previous records of the cockle showed its occurrence in Cilincing, northern coast of Jakarta, Semarang coastal waters of Province Central Java, and Sidoarjo coastal waters located in northern part of Province East Java. The identification of the species was performed by morphological characters and is supported by molecular analysis. This finding represents a new distribution record of the species in Indonesia. Historia naturalis bulgarica, 22: 45-71, 2015 Invertebrate Animals (Metazoa: Invertebrata) of the Atanasovsko Lake, Bulgaria Zdravko Hubenov, Lyubomir Kenderov, Ivan Pandourski Abstract: The role of the Atanasovsko Lake for storage and protection of the specific faunistic diversity, characteristic of the hyper-saline lakes of the Bulgarian seaside is presented. The fauna of the lake and surrounding waters is reviewed, the taxonomic diversity and some zoogeographical and ecological features of the invertebrates are analyzed. The lake system includes from freshwater to hyper-saline basins with fast changing environment. A total of 6 types, 10 classes, 35 orders, 82 families and 157 species are known from the Atanasovsko Lake and the surrounding basins. They include 56 species (35.7%) marine and marine-brackish forms and 101 species (64.3%) brackish-freshwater, freshwater and terrestrial forms, connected with water. For the first time, 23 species in this study are established (12 marine, 1 brackish and 10 freshwater). The marine and marine- brackish species have 4 types of ranges – Cosmopolitan, Atlantic-Indian, Atlantic-Pacific and Atlantic. The Atlantic (66.1%) and Cosmopolitan (23.2%) ranges that include 80% of the species, predominate. Most of the fauna (over 60%) has an Atlantic-Mediterranean origin and represents an impoverished Atlantic-Mediterranean fauna. The freshwater-brackish, freshwater and terrestrial forms, connected with water, that have been established from the Atanasovsko Lake, have 2 main types of ranges – species, distributed in the Palaearctic and beyond it and species, distributed only in the Palaearctic. The representatives of the first type (52.4%) predomi- nate. They are related to the typical marine coastal habitats, optimal for the development of certain species. -

The species list includes 96 species and 48 families. 1 CATALOGUE OF PROTOZOAN PARASITES RECORDED IN AUSTRALIA PETER J. O’DONOGHUE & ROBERT D. ADLARD O’Donoghue, P.J. & Adlard, R.D. 2000 02 29: Catalogue of protozoan parasites recorded in Australia. Memoirs of the Queensland Museum 45(1):1-164. Brisbane. ISSN 0079-8835. Published reports of protozoan species from Australian animals have been compiled into a host- parasite checklist, a parasite-host checklist and a cross-referenced bibliography. Protozoa listed include parasites, commensals and symbionts but free-living species have been excluded. Over 590 protozoan species are listed including amoebae, flagellates, ciliates and ‘sporozoa’ (the latter comprising apicomplexans, microsporans, myxozoans, haplosporidians and paramyxeans). Organisms are recorded in association with some 520 hosts including mammals, marsupials, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. Information has been abstracted from over 1,270 scientific publications predating 1999 and all records include taxonomic authorities, synonyms, common names, sites of infection within hosts and geographic locations.
