SHAZAM PDF Rich Buckler,Gil Kane,Roy Thomas | 192 pages | 12 Mar 2013 | DC Comics | 9781401238216 | English | New York, United States Shazam vs Superman - Battles - Comic Vine It's not a fair fight given that Shazam only has a Superman vs. Shazam feats whereas Superman has way more in the bag. At least wait until they fight in Justice League They indeed are but with current version Superman would win. Shazam is still not experienced with his powers and he was getting handled Superman vs. Shazam Black Adam rather easily. So he is still not really into the whole thing and doesn't know what he is doing. New 52 versions Straight after that however, billy got up fine and dandy, as he still manages to call the Justice League "jerks". And note, that when Shazam was fighting Supes, Diana had her lasso around him trying to restrain him, but it had no effect. So i believe it's just a matter of experience, as Shazam is young and only had those powers for a few hours actually. I'd stick with Superman for now, as being the dominant character in this battle. I would say Superman would win right now due to being more experience in fights and with his powers. Shazam had a good showing against Supes in Justice League Even tho Supes cheat-shotted him while Diana was with straining Shazam with her lasso But still, I just haven't seen Superman vs. Shazam of Shazam to say he definately beats Superman at this point. I think that Shazam is more powerful, however, he is still a child and has little battle experience. For that reason, I think Superman vs. Shazam Superman wins. I think this will be close, superman is just a slightly more powerful shazam only Superman vs. Shazam lightning is magic which supermans weakness Superman vs. Shazam superman has heat vision though. In the end, superman wins due to all his other abilities slightly over shazam but shazam will put up a great fight. A blood lusted Shazam won't fight him in a physical brawl. He'll go straight in using his magic. And Superman is weak against magic. Please Log In to post. Shazam still hasn't done a single meaningfull thing. He would lose badly. This one's a close one due to the OP. They are stated to possess equal amount of strength prowess. No Morals is a huge factor in this bout and would have to side with Shazam Superman vs. Shazam this one. Superman is, as said, vulnerable to not only Kryptonite but magic as well. He's faster and more combat experienced. Don't post to forums Gen. Bring back the main forum list. Use your keyboard! Superman Vs. Terrific 80s collection, mostly new to me. The real gem here is the final story by Gil Kane. It's worth the price of admission and comic book confection. Aug 23, Sarah rated it liked it. My Superman vs. Shazam comic was definitely the one featuring Billy Batson from our Earth. I don't always love the multiverse--sometimes it stretches my suspension of disbelief a little too far; however, I do like that it does allow for a lot of "what-if" story lines. I wonder if introducing our Earth's Billy Batson is a precursor for Infinite Crisis, which I believe--and I haven't read that particular story yet, so my knowledge isn't great on this--was used to decrease the use of the multiverse and increase the continuity among DC's characters and stories. I hope so, because I like Captain Marvel actually being in the Justice League, not just a guest star now and again. Still, I'm always looking for more Captain Marvel stories, so this was worth reading. Apr 10, Nicolas rated it it was ok Shelves: graphic-novels. It makes me sad to rate this low, but I really did not enjoy it. The few issues that followed were some of the most crowded and busy comic pages I have ever seen. Out of this collection I enjoyed the final story with Captain Sivana best, but not a strong showing overall. Mar 10, Craig rated it it was ok Shelves: comic-books. I've been feeling nostalgic and with Superman vs. Shazam "Shazam" movie coming soon I picked this up. It's a collection of stories back from the 70's and 80's and it's shows how different comics were back then. It's a fun read, though it does come off a little corny at times. Nov 12, Charles Superman vs. Shazam it really liked it. This collection of stories, which has Superman and Captain Marvel fighting together Superman vs. Shazam than in opposition, expresses a sharp contrast with the stories in the Marvel line. The stories use the standard powerful villains and evil doers found in the comic book lines of the two heroes. Sometimes they operate solo and other times they team up. A common theme of the villains is that they Superman vs. Shazam to destroy their super foes and even the Earths. In terms of action, in general it is a series of super punches, where villain hits hero and he flies back, only to have the hero come back and hit the villain and knock him just as far. Fans of Marvel will miss the battle chatter of the hero as they cannot help but engage in smart dialog, even while getting blasted by a powerful punch. Captain Marvel Jr. #4, (Feb. 19, 1943). Inset bottom is Raboy’s first and his kid sidekick Bucky. It was during the fall of 1941 that Herron came cover for Fawcett and the first of the CMJr origin trilogy, Master Comics #21 (Dec. 1941). Below up with the idea of a new addition to the Fawcett family. With Captain is a vignette derived from Raboy’s cover art for Captain Marvel Jr. #26 (Jan. 1, 1945). Marvel sales increasing dramatically since his debut in February 1940, Fawcett management figured a teenage version of the “Big Red Cheese” would only increase their profits. Herron liked Raboy’s art very much, and wanted a more illustrative style for the new addition, as opposed to the C. C. Beck or Pete Costanza simplified approach on Captain Marvel. The new boy-hero was ably dubbed Captain Marvel Jr., and it was Mac Raboy who was given the job of visualizing him for the very first time. Jr.’s basic attire was blue, with a red cape.

  • Crossmedia Adaptation and the Development of Continuity in the Dc Animated Universe
“INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

Baker iv ABSTRACT COSTUME CULTURE: VISUAL RHETORIC, ICONOGRAPHY, AND TOKENISM IN COMIC BOOKS Michael G. Baker, PhD Texas A&M University-Commerce, 2017 Advisor: Christopher Gonzalez, PhD Superhero comic books provide a unique perspective on marginalized characters not only as objects of literary study, but also as opportunities for rhetorical analysis. There are representations of race, gender, sexuality, and identity in the costuming of superheroes that impact how the audience perceives the characters. Because of the association between iconography and identity, the superhero costume becomes linked with the superhero persona (for example the Superman “S” logo is a stand-in for the character). However, when iconography is affected by issues of tokenism, the rhetorical message associated with the symbol becomes more difficult to decode. Since comic books are sales-oriented and have a plethora of tie-in merchandise, the iconography in these symbols has commodified implications for those who choose to interact with them. When consumers costume themselves with the visual rhetoric associated with comic superheroes, the wearers engage in a rhetorical discussion where they perpetuate whatever message the audience places on that image.
