3 KWBU PROGRAM GUIDE Get Ready for Digital TV Are you ready? The television industry is approaching a historic moment; on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, the nation’s TV broadcasters will complete their transition to an all-digital format. Digital television (DTV) is a newer, more effi cient, broadcast technology that offers viewers dramatically clearer pictures and better sound than the traditional analog system.

This change will affect millions of households that only receive over-the-air signals, as well as those that have secondary over-the-air TV sets in their bedrooms and/ or kitchens.

Viewers who do not subscribe to a paid cable or satellite service and do not have a digital tuner inside their television will need to take one of the three steps outlined below to continue watching TV after the transition. Questions? 1. Purchase a TV set with a built-in digital tuner email: [email protected] 2. Subscribe to cable, satellite or other pay TV service call: 254/710-HDTV (4388) 3. Purchase a DTV converter box for your existing TV set

Digital-to-analog converter boxes receive digital over-the-air signals from your antenna, convert them to analog and then send the signals to your existing analog television set. Through March 31, 2009, all U.S. households are eligible to request up to two $40 government-sponsored coupons to off-set the price of the boxes, allowing viewers to continue watching free over-the-air television on their older analog sets.

In a half-hour special, GET READY FOR DIGITAL TV, PBS has joined with ’s Norm Abram and Kevin O’Connor, along with , award-winning senior correspondent with NOW on PBS, to offer digital television how-to guidance and tips to ensure that viewers across America are prepared to successfully make the switch to digital television in their homes before the analog shutoff in February 2009. GET READY FOR DIGITAL TV will air on KWBU-TV Thursday, November 20 at 8:30 p.m. In another half-hour special, ABC’s of HDTV, PBS favorite Nick Clooney hosts this look at the confusing world of digital television. As the date approaches when broadcasters must convert to digital-only format, many viewers are worried that the equipment they own will no longer be operational. Others have many questions about purchasing the digital televisions coming onto the market. In this program, which is geared toward older PTV viewers, host Nick Clooney provides clarity on some frequently asked questions. Spokespersons from some of the major electronics chains offer information on subjects such as 720p and 1080i, the difference between plasma and LCD, and answer other popular questions. ABC’s of HDTV airs on KWBU-TV Thursday, November 13 at 9:30 p.m. and Monday, November 17 at 9:30 p.m.

11 KWBU PROGRAM GUIDE KWBU-Create Saturday Marathons In November on Create™ TV Spend your Saturdays with themed marathons Create™ TV ’s Saturdays are fi lled with a full day of how-to programs focusing on a specifi c theme. Explore a country, from history to food. Prepare for a holiday, from traditions to recipes. There’s a Create Saturday to fi t any lifestyle. See marathon descriptions below. November 1: Walk This Way We’re leading the way to the four corners of the globe to discover the adventure possibilities when you let your feet do the walking. George Bauer will be navigating the unspoiled trails of America’s national parks, and Ian Wright and Zay Harding will go on a quest to uncover the beautiful vistas used for “The Lord of the Rings” fi lms. High in the Alps, a ruined castle spells enchantment to Rick Steves. When you see where our path takes you, you’ll have happy feet! November 8: Tastes Like Home The smell of mom’s home cooking always takes us back to our childhood. Mom would make our favorite dishes: macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, meatloaf, and chicken pot pies anytime we asked! Now, our talented Create chefs, Chris Kimball, Katie Brown and Christina Pirello, bring these dishes to the kitchen to show us how to make comfort food just like mom’s. With every tasty bite it reminds us of home and mom’s cooking. November 15: Native Spirit Your spirit will soar with the sounds of Native American music and delight in the fl avors and history of their diverse tribal nations. We’re celebrating the unique cultural heritage and contributions of American Indians. Chef Loretta Barrett Oden is sampling everything from juicy bison tenderloin to refreshing Mesquite Juice, while Art Wolfe deciphers petroglyphs in the Navajo Canyon de Chelley. Be sure to watch this exciting tour of Native American lifestyles, past and present. November 22: Let’s Talk Turkey It’s that time of year again…Turkey time! The family is coming over for a feast which will include string beans, sweet potatoes, stuffi ng, mashed potatoes, apple pie, chocolate pecan caramel pie, and of course roasted turkey! Chefs Caprial and John Spence, Chris Fennimore, Dede Wilson and Emily Luche will help you create an incredible Thanksgiving dinner with all the bells and whistles that will be talked about for years to come! (This marathon will be replayed on Thursday, November 27th.) November 29: Around the World in a Day The fearless Globe Trekker team is at it again! Ian Wright, Justine Shapiro, and Megan McCormick will keep the pages in your passport fi lled as we go continent hopping – from Europe to Asia and then to North America. Ancient cultures and the human spirit are all yours to experience and treasure when you go globe trekking!
