The Marlins selected Jones, now 20 years old, in the third round of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Laurens (S.C.) High School.

WALKING OFF THE SUNS Michael Hernandez gave the Grasshoppers their first walk-off home run of the season on May 2 as part of his career day, driving in four runs in an 10-8 win over the Hagerstown Suns. Hernandez finished 3-for- 5 with a pair of RBI-singles to go along with his game-winning 2-run home run off Jared Brasher with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. It was the Grasshoppers second walk-off win of the season and seventh win in the final at-bats during the 2018 season.

IT’S MILLER TIME Brandon Miller opened his May 1 start against the Suns by retiring the first 16 batters faced, taking a perfect game one out into the sixth inning in his fifth start of the season. Hagerstown eventually caught up to Miller, chasing him from the game after 5.1 innings pitched. The right-hander took no decision that day, allowing four runs on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in the outing.

EVERYBODY HITS All nine batters hit safely for the first time in 2018 when Greensboro fought off Asheville, 11-7 in 10 innings, on April 29. Infielders Jose Devers and Lazaro Alonso led the 16-hit charge with three hits each as the Grasshoppers batted around in the top of the 10th for a 7-run inning. In the big frame, the team collected six hits, including four doubles, to run away from the Tourists after Asheville rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force the extra inning.

BEGGS BAFFLES BATTERS Dustin Beggs dominated out of the bullpen on April 27 at Asheville, striking out eight batters over 3.0 nearly-perfect innings of work. He struck out the first six batters he faced in perfect sixth and seventh innings. After inducing a groundout to open the bottom of the eighth and allowing a base hit – the lone batter to reach against him on the night – the right- hander fanned the final two batters he faced to close his outing. Greensboro fell to Asheville, 3-2.

SHARP STINGER AGAINST THE GREENJACKETS: In their first series against the new-look Augusta GreenJackets, Greensboro was stung early as Malique Ziegler led off the game for Augusta with a first-pitch home run off Hoppers starting pitcher Taylor Braley. The GreenJackets hit two home runs in the opening frame, with Ryan Kirby adding a 2-run blast, en route to a 7-4 lead over the Grasshoppers.
