The Londoner 21st Edition November 2002 Welcome Welcome to the 21st Edition of The Londoner Newsletter. I hope you will enjoy reading about our new members, the updates on our current members, and the other information presented here. A special thanks to Barry Clapsaddle who continues to keep our website, http:// www.londoner.com, on-line and updated. Of course, he can’t keep everything updated if you don’t keep us updated — if your address or phone number changes — please let us know so we can update the members directory. We don’t want you to join the list of members that we have lost contact with (see “The Last Word” at the end of the newsletter). Also, if things are happening in your life that you want to tell everyone about, you don’t need to wait until you get a letter from me asking for updates. Send it in anytime and it will be posted on the web site right away and included in the next newsletter. So, enjoy the newsletter and Stay In Touch! Reunions The 2002 New Orleans Reunion was a smashing success. The following coverage of the reunion has been supplied courtesy of Robin Chase (wife of Art Chase ’72) — Thanks Robin!! New Orleans, The BIG EASY, certainly lived up to its nickname - it was EASY to have a BIG time there in the French Quarter! The LCHS reunion was a huge success, and obvi- ously everyone who was there had a marvelous time! (As a spouse, I have to mention that everyone made me feel like a part of the group even though I never attended LCHS - what a terrific group of people you all are!) We had representatives from class of 66 through the class of 75 - a 10 year span of LCHS finest! The rowdiest group was the class of 73, and the ladies certainly made a fashion statement with those feather boas! Gigi Blount McGeehee 68 is the most incredible person, working so hard every moment to ensure that everyone had a great time while remaining gracious and making all of us feel so welcome. She managed to obtain the primo hospitality suite on the 2nd floor with the huge balcony at Bourbon and Bienville Streets. Thank you so much, Gigi, for everything! Truly the Hostess with the Mostest! And thanks also to her wonderful husband, Ramon, who was so great at everything from bartending to feeding beignets to the masses on Sunday morning. Friday night the reunion opened with a cocktail party in the Grand Ballroom South of the Royal Sonesta Hotel. The food was unbelievably good and there was plenty of it! A mind- blowing collection featuring shrimp, carved bourbon glazed ham, appetizers galore, and a dessert table you could gain 10 pounds just looking at! (Pralines were great!) The year- books came out and everyone got reacquainted. At 10pm the party moved up to the afore- mentioned hospitality suite to hang out on the balcony. Some brilliant person got beads and handed them out, affording hours of entertainment to all of us on the balcony. (Lots of Hey, weve got beads! Show us your ..... etc). Amazing what people will do for a string of plastic beads! Saturday night found everyone in the Bienville Suite for cocktails. The tables in the dining room were decorated in Mardi Gras theme with beads, throw cups & dubloons, and masks; very colorful and festive. Supper was prime rib with all the trimmings, served by our first class waiters (well never forget Steve the dancing head-waiter). The finale was the most divine chocolate cake with raspberry sauce - yumm! After dinner Brett Brunson 72, DJ of the night, cranked up the music and the dancing began. One of the highlights was a song celebrating the LCHS experiences written and performed by Dave Wilcoxson 70, which brought flashbacks and was enjoyed by all present (this should be stored on the Londoner site as an audio file for everybody to hear). The dancing went on till mid- night (Dancing Darryl and the Boa Babes - you rock!) when many moved back up to the hospitality suite for more bead tossing and Anatomy 101. Its been reported that the police were interested in the balcony gang - as everyone knows its not a great party till the police are involved, so the reunion officially qualifies! Sunday morning found people wandering back into the hospitality suite in search of cof- fee and beignets (picked up from Cafe du Monde by wonderful Ramon). We had a wicked rainstorm move through during the morning which gave Bourbon Street a much different and deserted look. Everyone was in good spirits in spite of the deficit of sleep - hugs, farewells, promises to keep in touch and see you at the next one, and the LCHS 2002 New Orleans Reunion was over. What a fabulous, fun weekend for everyone who at- tended! Also a big thanks you to J Mercer 66 and Rob Shanks 71 who donate their time and energy to maintain and update the websites for LCHS alumni. Look for all the photos at Londoncentral.org (Those looking for the photos (and there are hundreds of them) should go to http// londoncentral.org/reunionphotos_no-02.htm Thanks to J Mercer for all of his work getting the photos up!) Now, where and when will the next one be? I heard talk of San Antonio, Las Vegas, and San Diego and suggestions for 2004 & 2005. All sound good to me. Will let you know when I know. For those ‘73-‘75, Cindy Clements Hopkins ‘74 asked that I pass this on: “...am starting the process of organizing a 30 year reunion for the class of 1974 to be held in the summer of 2004 in Las Vegas. Maybe you can help put it on the LCHS website...don’t have any details yet but want people to start mentally planning. We also want to include 1973 & 75 grads. “ If you are interested, contact her at [email protected] Back Issues I know, the back issues of this newsletter were suppose to be scanned and up on the web site already. Well, my good intentions didn’t quite succeed but they are getting scanned now and should start being placed on the web site soon. Sad Farewells Harold Hubbard sent me a note to let us know that his wife Becky Hubbard, Class of ‘73, passed away on June 3rd, 2000. She suffered an aneurysm while recovering from surgery. Roy Bissett, Class of ’72 , was killed in an auto accident this past March. Jay Hicks attended the funeral. Jackie Czecha, wife of David Pedersen, Class of ’71 provided this note of Dave’ passing: David Lee Pedersen, Potomac Maryland, May 25, 2002. Dave passed away suddenly from injuries sustained in a car accident. Dave earned a BA at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, a MPA from Drake University. While at BAH, Dave earned their highest award, the Professional Excellence Award. He was also well known for mentoring consultants new to the firm. Dave loved music and played the cornet and trumpet. He was a member of the St. Olaf Band and the Rockville (Maryland) Concert Band along with his father and brother Mark. In addition to family and music, he loved trains and traveling.
