Recommendation 2 Introduction Water quality is defined as the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of a water body it can be determined by analyzing various physico-chemical parameters and biological parameters in order to check the quality status of water, whether it is suitable for drinking, irrigation or fishing practices. Rivers and lakes are the most important freshwater resources for human , ecosystem and environment. Unfortunately, river water are being polluted by indiscriminate disposal of sewerage, industrial waste and excess of human activities, which affects their physico-chemical characteristics and microbiological quality. Therefore, monitoring of River water quality is necessary on downstream of the confluence of the wastewater into river. 3 Source ; Pearson Benjamin Cummings 4 Ayeyarwaddy Length – 2,170 km drainage basin area -412,650 km2 Annual average discharge - 410 km3/year Navigable length – 1,534 km 5 Agricultural Industrial Bathing Domestic Fishing Transportation 6 Parameters and Frequency Physicochemical Parameters Frequency 1. pH 2. • Magway Operational Brief WFP Myanmar
Magway Operational Brief WFP Myanmar Overview Magway Region with 3.9 million, representing 7 percent of the country’s population, is located in the central part of Myanmar, bordering with Sagaing Region in the north, Mandalay Region in the east, Bago Region in the south and Rakhine and Chin States in the west. Despite largest land area, economically, it is one of the poorest regions in Myanmar due to lack of job and poor infrastructure and services. Moreover, limited access to land, inadequate farming inputs, drought, and scarcity of water and declination of soil fertility also lead to food insecurity of the vulnerable. Rural population accounts for 15 percent of the total in the region. The chronic food insecurity causes migration of the local people and many social and health problems. The chronic poverty and high vulnerability to shocks are widespread throughout the region. A food security, poverty and nutrition survey conducted in 2013 by WFP and Save the Children in the Dry Zone - large part of Magway, Mandalay and lower part of Sagaing Divisions - reported that 26 percent of the people in Dry Zone live below the poverty line and 18 percent is food-insecure. Chronic and acute malnutrition was found to be widespread among children under the age of five with 12 percent acutely malnourished while 27 percent chronically malnourished. In 2003, WFP opened a sub-office in Pakkoku to provide relief food assistance to families, whose breadwinners contracted HIV/TB. The food assistance was provided through the direct support from Fund for HIV/AIDS for Myanmar (FAHM).

  • MHAA 2019 Annual Report.Pdf
Establishment of MHAA in Myanmar Project Implementing Township of MHAA FOREWARD Health Assistants career has been established since 1953 and it has been more than sixty years of profession. Despite the long period of establishment, it is still in need to augment the opportunities for long-term development of Health Assistants. There are three types of Health Assistants: Regular Health Assistant (RHA), Condensed Health Assistant (CHA) and BCommH (HA) based on the need of different health programs and projects carried out by successive governments. Although there are gaps in terms of generation and educational background, we have come together to shape a shared vision of becoming a resourceful public health taskforce, to expand access to career development and advanced educational opportunities leading to the health-related benefits of community. It is crucial to have a collective voice of all Health Assistants in order to achieve our common vision and missions and likewise the role of MHAA is foundational. At the moment, MHAA in township level has been specifically formed in 312 townships and co-owned by the members who are counting at 6,331 and more from across the country. We have mutual partnership with 6 international donor agencies, 11 partners and 15 implementing public health related projects in 89 townships of 11 regions and states. Currently, we have the full-time staff capacity at 605. The MHAA yearly expenditure volume increased over two-folds to 7.1 million US dollars in FY 2019 from over 3 million US dollars in FY 2018. Moreover, MHAA developed a five years strategic plan which will guide MHAA to perform integrated response to health under all projects as well as achieve more population coverage and better health outcomes fulfilling building blocks for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in project areas.

  • PACT Diesel Minigrid Study10
Enabling Electricity Access in Myanmar Diesel Mini Grid Assessment, november 2016 U Kyaw Thu comes home at 6pm a2er spending the day at his farm growing lenls and sesame. A diesel engine starts growling in the background and the street lamps light up. Some of his friends and neighbors switch on their television sets while the children open their books to make best use of these 2 hours before the village plunges into darkness. Aer 9pm, while the village prepares to sleep and the diesel engine stops, children light up candles in their homes to study for another few hours so that they do not have to spend their lives being farmers in this darkness of these villages in Myanmar. Through this assessment, Pact Myanmar seeks to understand the struggle, needs, ingenuity and outlook of villagers seeking to gain access to electricity in Myanmar and who have established diesel mini grids in their villages. We explore U Kyaw Thu’s village, Kone, which lies in Seikphyu Towhship and another 9 villages in Magway Region to understand how the village community has collaborated to establish basic electrifica:on and whether there could be ways to improve the systems and provide electricity for not only ligh:ng but also produc:ve use, which could accelerate the overall village development. Mandalay Yoma About Pact Myanmar Pact Myanmar’s programming aims to fundamentally improve people’s lives to affect positive material impact on Myanmar’s development. We do this by operating simultaneously at scale and at the village level to maximize impact. We believe passionately in community involvement in designing solutions to everyday problems.
