    CAR PARKING CHARGES FOR THE STATION, RICHMOND SWIMMING POOL AND GYM CUSTOMERS ARE ON THE WAY; HOWEVER, YOU CAN MAKE THEM FAIRER IF YOU ACT IMMEDIATELY BY EXPRESSING YOUR VIEWS Richmondshire District Council is proposing to introduce car parking charges in The Station Yard Car Park this spring. We understand that the ticket machines have been ordered . This car park is currently used by customers of The Station, Richmond Swimming Pool and Liberty Gym. All of these buildings and the activities which take place in them are organised and maintained through the efforts of two local volunteer-led charities: The Station – Is operated by The Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust The Pool and Gym – Are operated by the Richmond Leisure Trust If you regularly use these ‘much loved’ charity-run-facilities , and choose to park your vehicle in the council owned Station Yard Car Park, you will shortly be charged for your visit. The charities that operate these facilities believe that what is being proposed will have an immediate and detrimental impact on these community amenities which are run on a ‘not-for profit’ basis - and could ultimately force them to close. The local authority appear to have little or no relevant research on which to justify their position. Your help is needed NOW to ensure that the views of people like you, who value The Station, pool and gym, to make your voices heard on this critical issue by writing to or phoning your district councillor, if you live in Richmondshire or writing to the head of the local authority if you don't.

Polling District and Places Review 2018/2019 Background Within each Local Authority area, legislation requires Councils to carry out reviews of Polling Districts and Polling Places in that area. The Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 introduced a change to the timing of compulsory reviews and the next review must be held between 1 October 2018 and 31 January 2020 with subsequent reviews held within a 16 month period starting on 1 October every fifth year after 1 October 2018. The Council’s last review was held in 2013 when a number of minor changes were made. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) carried out a District Ward Boundary Review and published their final proposals in May 2018. The number of wards reduced from 24 to 16 and took effect at the District Council Elections on 2 May 2019. The majority of our current polling station allocations were not affected by the new Ward Boundary arrangements, however three areas would have been affected. Council at its meeting on 24 July 2018 approved a review of the current polling station allocations for Colburn, Gayles and Richmond parishes as a result of revisions to their parish electoral arrangements.

    District Ward Boundary Review Richmondshire District Council Stage One - Council Size Submission to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (April 2017) 1 Introduction The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) is an independent body that is responsible for conducting boundary and electoral reviews of principal authorities in England. Richmondshire District Council does not currently meet the criteria for electoral inequality ie. 30% of wards having a variance greater than +/- 10% of the average electorate per Member, however this threshold is likely to be reached in the very near future. As a result the Council decided in July 2016 to request the LGBCE to undertake an electoral review. This request was accepted and the review was included in their programme. The electoral review will examine whether the boundaries of wards within the local authority area need to be altered to ensure fair representation at the local government elections. In Richmondshire it has been identified that six of the twenty four wards have imbalances. The table below sets out the current imbalances in the District. The route takes in sites steeped in history, including High Coniscliffe where several bloody 8th century murders in Viking England took place. Walking instructions Please note at certain times the crops, in particular oil seed rape, are high and so paths across fields are not as easy to see. 1. The walk starts at the Baydale Beck Inn on the A67 between Darlington and Piercebridge. Follow the signed bridleway to the left of the pub (the sign is not in great condition) 2. The track bears left then immediately right 3. Follow the well-used bridleway. Please note, it can be very muddy in large sections along here at times. 4. At Coniscliffe Grange Farm do not enter the farmyard, turn left along the top of the field, pass through a gate and cross the A1 motorway 5. Walk along the track and through the kissing gate 6.
