One is assured to do so, with the World No. 142 Gonzalez and World No. 153 Olivo meeting in the first match on Centre Court. The 144th- ranked Kicker, who earned his first ATP win on Monday, challenges No. 1 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber. Should Kohlschreiber reach the semi-finals, he will have defeated three Argentines: Carlos Berlocq in the first round, Kicker in the second, and Gonzalez or Olivo in the quarter-finals. Also on Centre Court, No. 3 seed Pablo Cuevas faces Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro for the third time this season. Cuevas defeated the left-handed Monteiro en route to back-to-back titles at Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in February. The Uruguayan is 12-1 overall against lefties in 2016, including wins over World No. 4 Rafael Nadal, Roland Garros quarter-finalist Albert Ramos- Viñolas, Marrakech champion Federico Delbonis and ’s-Hertogenbosch runner-up Gilles Muller. In the last match on Centre Court, 2009 finalist Paul-Henri Mathieu meets No. 6 seed Nicolas Almagro. • Defending Champion Mayer Faces Basilashvili in Hamburg Final
GERMAN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018: DAY 7 MEDIA NOTES Sunday, 29 July 2018 Tennisstadion am Rothenbaum | Hamburg, Germany | 23-29 July 2018 Draw: S-32, D-16 | Prize Money: €1,619,935 | Surface: Clay ATP World Tour Info Tournament Info ATP PR & Marketing ATPWorldTour.com German-Open-Hamburg.de Martin Dagahs: [email protected] Twitter: @ATPWorldTour @Am_Rothenbaum Press Officer: [email protected] Facebook: @ATPWorldTour @TennisAmRothenbaum TV & Radio: TennisTV.com DEFENDING CHAMPION MAYER FACES BASILASHVILI IN HAMBURG FINAL • Two-time champion Leonardo Mayer of Argentina will go for his third title at the German Tennis Championships – and second in a row – when he meets Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili in the Hamburg final on Sunday. It will be the first professional meeting between the two players. • Mayer triumphed at Hamburg in 2014 for his first career title, clinching a final-set tiebreak in the championship match against then-No. 7 David Ferrer. He won his second of two career titles in the same city three years later, when he entered the 2017 main draw as a 138th-ranked lucky loser and hoisted the trophy again. Mayer re-discovered the magic this year, improving his win-loss record at Hamburg to 15-2 after saving a match point against qualifier Jozef Kovalik in the semi-finals. • Like Mayer, Basilashvili came into Hamburg with a losing record, having suffered a seven-match Tour-level losing streak earlier this season, which included two retirements due to a right shoulder injury. But after making it through the Hamburg qualifying, Basilashvili moved past seeded players Philipp Kohlschreiber and Pablo Carreno Busta in the earlier rounds, and then beat Nicolas Jarry in the semi-finals to reach his third career final and keep his hopes alive for a first singles title.
