Thiem and Kontaveit Reign at Orange Bowl The News Bulletin of the International Tennis Federation www.itftennis.com Thiem and Kontaveit reign at Orange Bowl Dominic Thiem of Austria and Anett Kontaveit of Estonia produced outstanding performances to win the titles at the 2011 Orange Bowl, played on 5-11 December in Florida, USA. Held for the first time on the clay courts of the Frank Veltri Tennis Center, the Orange Bowl is the last Grade A event of 2011 ITF Junior Circuit. In an identical scoreline to last week’s Eddie Herr final, top seed Thiem once again defeated No.7 Patrick Ofner 61 60 to claim his third consecutive title in the last three weeks. “I am very happy for winning my first Grade A title. I played very aggressive and I did not make mistakes while Ofner made more mistakes” said the Austrian Dominic Thiem (AUT) afterwards.I think the dream of everyone playing this tournament is to win it once. (Photo: Colette Lewis) I did it.” 12 December 2011 Issue 50 Fifteen-year-old Kontaveit from Tallinn clinched her second title of the year becoming the first Estonian girl to lift the Orange Bowl trophy. In a rematch of last week’s Eddie Herr quarterfinal, the No. 5 seed avenged her defeat against second seed Yulia Puntintseva of Russia 62 62. British No. 4 seeds Liam Broady and Joshua Ward-Hibbert were crowned boys’ doubles champions by defeating top seeds Thiem and Robin Kern of Germany 64 63. Second seeded Victoria Kan of Russia and Ganna Poznikhirenko of Ukraine won the girls’ doubles as they beat Americans Jennifer Brady and Kendal Woodard 63 76(3).
