Office of the City Manager TO: Mayor and Council FROM: Chris Hillman, City Manager DATE: October 14, 2011 SUBJECT: Issues Update CITY OF SURPRISE DOG PARK CLOSED OCTOBER 12 – 26. Signage has been posted on site for the last 3 weeks to remind residents of the closure. SURPRISE THREE STAR PARK BASKETBALL COURTS CLOSED OCTOBER 17-21. The basketball courts at the Three Star Park, located at 15825 W. Jerry Street, will be closed for resurfacing from October 17-21 and will reopen October 22. SPECIAL OLYMPICS. CRS and the Surprise Police Department will co-host the Arizona Special Olympic athletes, as part of the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run, this Friday and Saturday, October 14 & 15. The swimming competition will be held at the Surprise Aquatic Center from 8 am-3 pm each day while the Softball competition will take place at the fields at Surprise Farms from 8 am-4 pm. Opening Ceremonies will be held in the Stadium on Friday night starting at 6 pm with a parade of athletes and will conclude with fireworks and a dance for the athletes. Surprise Police Chief Frazier will welcome the athletes, coaches, family members and friends. ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE. The Surprise Saguaros continue home game Arizona Fall League action in Surprise Stadium with the following home games: Saturday, October 15: Mesa Solar Sox vs. Surprise Saguaros @12:35 pm Monday, October 17: Peoria Javelinas vs. Surprise Saguaros @ 6:35 pm Wednesday, October 19: Salt River Rafters vs. Surprise Saguaros @ 12:35 pm Friday, October 21: Scottsdale Scorpions vs. Surprise Saguaros @ 12:35 pm Saturday, October 22: Peoria Javelinas vs. Surprise Saguaros @ 12:35 pm .
