Head Coach B.J. O’Hara Coaches Conference Call - 5/13/2015

On the loss to Rochester “Rochester’s an awfully impressive team, both ends of the field. They got a little bit of help at the X with Mike Poppleton and John Ortolani, both dressed and double-teamed up on our guy Anthony Kelly. I think that helped them a bit. They’re tough to defend. They can score from a lot of different places, so defensive gameplanning is especially difficult. They’ve got virtually all of their guys in now, so they’re a strong club. But I felt that the game was still winnable all along. It was back-and-forth. We were within striking distance the whole way till the very end. They threw on that helpful goal on us late. It was a hard-fought game on a very, very hot day. Both teams had to grind it out pretty hard.”

On shutting down Kieran McArdle “I don’t think you can just concentrate on just one guy because they’ve got an awful lot around him. Having Casey Powell on the other side makes it even more difficult to stop one guy. They’ve got an outstanding group of midfielders that shot the ball real well against Ohio. So we’ve got to play good individual defense on McArdle, but we can’t get slide-happy because he can distribute the ball very well too. So it’s just going to be a challenge.”

On the roster for this weekend “No, we’ll have picked up some guys from the Colorado Mammoth. They lost in the playoffs last week, so John Grant, Jr. will be in uniform along with Jeremy Noble and Cam Holding and Dillon Ward. So we’ve got some reinforcements there.”

On Dillon Roy “He was nursing an injury. It wasn’t one that we felt dictated that he go on the IR, so we’re kind of taking it week by week, so we’re hoping he’ll be healthy this week. Still don’t know yet, though.”

On Michael Bocklet and Greg Melaugh “They’ve both been pleasant surprises for us. Some of the players that we had with other commitments. We had to find some personnel to fill those spots. Mike had a couple of real good games for us. And Greg’s been strong in every game we’ve played. In fact, he took Mike Manley twice one-on-one on Sunday and scored, which is no easy task. So they’ll con- tinue to be in the mix. We’re at that stage, though. As players become available, both indoor guys and college guys, each week it’s going to get a look at different personnel and try to measure things and compare things and hopefully within in a couple weeks we’ll be at the stage where we’ll know what our strongest lineup is, but they’ve both done a real good job for us and we’re really happy for them.”

On Dan Taylor in his first two games “I think Danny’s going to be an outstanding MLL player. He scored in both games for us and limited ball - He wasn’t play- ing 60 minutes and still managed to put some points up. He had some others that were very close. We’ll continue to try to find ways to use him. He’s got the frame for the MLL. He’s got great vision. He shoots the ball well and plays a similar style to a number of our guys, so he’ll fit in nicely.”

On Chris Bocklet returning to the lineup “Yes, we expect Chris back. His team was in the Texas State Championships. He coaches a high school team in Texas and obviously couldn’t leave them high and dry at that time of the season, so he was unavailable but he’ll be with us this week.”
