I recommended the place to at least half a dozen friends traveling to Amsterdam. Definitely worthy of a visit. Dear BriSanVan, I am very happy to read your review. It certainly made my day to hear you liked it so much, and are recommending it to your friends! We have always fancied the idea of a speakeasy, and with this coming highly recommended we thought we just had to try it while we were in Amsterdam. We texted the number on their website and got a reservation for that night. We vaguely knew where it was and were intrigued by the 'black door' hunt. We headed out a little early in case we got lost, and it was a good job we did, as we went round in circles many times. We were shocked by the sheer volume of black doors in the area, and ended up having to resort to asking people if they knew where it was Luckily his directions got us there. We rang the bell and were asked for our reservation. We were shown to a booth directly opposite the bar, and the owner explained the cocktail menu to us. The cocktail menu was on a poster on the wall, and consisted of 8 possibly 10 but I can't quite remember cocktails devised by the bar staff. Every cocktail had at least 1 ingredient that I had no idea what it was, and I am quite a seasoned cocktail maker, so this was definitely an adventure. We ordered 2 different cocktails and started out journey through the menu. We were given wonderful olives and bar snacks, along with a bottle of water. There were all complimentary and kept topped up which was great. We went through the cocktail menu After the weird and wonderful concoctions I asked for a Bloody Mary. I am not sure what the girl making it did, but it tasted like she had blended celery into it, and there was no taste of tomato or anything I associate with a Bloody Mary, it just tasted of celery and that wasn't nice at all. I gulped it down quickly and asked the owner to make me a cherry cocktail. This was much better. We had a lovely evening. Dear Rhianydds, thank you very very much for your detailed review! Great to hear you enjoyed your experience overall and had a chance to have quite some of our drinks. Hope to see you again, as our menu changes every 3 months completely! With kind regards, Timo Janse Bar manager Door The coolest place, seriously. Make sure you call ahead and get reservations. Also look up any instructions you can find on TripAdvisor or Google Maps because that'll help finding the speakeasy. Cocktails were great, which is what you're going for. I found it was soothing to watch them make the cocktails. Also the bartenders are very knowledgable about everything, got an education and was able to ask questions. Dear Amanda S, thank you SO much for your review. It's great to hear you liked the To Be or Not to Be, as its one of the stronger drinks. You have to reserve but unfortunately they accept more reservations than they have space for. Cramped, were pushed around, drinks were average. Dear tplus, sorry to hear we were over capacitated at the time of your visit and you found the drinks average; although we try to make sure everyone has a seat it is true that this is a main point of improval for us. Yhank you for the review, with kind regards, Timo Janse Bar manager Door Absolutely wonderful service, loved the vibe and the cocktails even more! Might be hard to fine, but all worth it till you do, and part of the fun ;.

  • Amsterdam, Netherlands Overview Introduction
Amsterdam, Netherlands Overview Introduction Tell anyone you're going to Amsterdam and there's a fair chance they'll either sigh with envy or give you a sly nod. Amsterdam's reputation for tolerance laced with sin precedes it, but equally renowned are its scenic and cultural attractions. Amsterdam hotels are known for their cleanliness and hospitality, its restaurants offer world cuisine, and along the city streets is a shopper's paradise. Most visitors fall in love with the city and return again and again. Amsterdam is nourished by a wealth of museums, concert halls, and avant-garde theater and dance venues. Its relaxed and tolerant attitudes draw those looking for a creative, anything-goes atmosphere. Large numbers of beautiful tree-lined canals are bordered by streets with rows of narrow, gabled houses and 17th-century warehouses, making Amsterdam an architectural treasure trove. Amsterdam is much smaller in population (but no less interesting) than many European capitals. As a result, much of the city center can be comfortably explored on foot—or, if you want to look like a true local, by bicycle. Highlights Sights—The Westerkerk (West Church) on the Prinsengracht and the spectacular view from its tower; gabled mansions on the 17th-century canal ring inside the Singelgracht; the Anne Frank Huis; the Red Light District; Amsterdam-Noord. Museums—Rembrandts at the Rijksmuseum; the Van Gogh Museum; the Stedelijk Museum. Memorable Meals—Smoked eel at Haesje Claes; french fries with mayonnaise or peanut-butter sauce from the rear end of the Albert Cuyp Markt; rijsttafel at Tempo Doeloe; salted or pickled herring from one of the fish stands along the canals; traditional Dutch fare at Moeders; international dishes from Food Hallen.
