    The National Academy of Needlearts at The Somerset Inn Troy, Michigan Presents The Exemplary 2015 About the National Academy of Needlearts The National Academy of Needlearts (The Academy) was founded in 1985 to further embroidery education. This goal is accomplished directly through classes and an exhibition held during the annual Assembly for Embroiderers. The Academy indirectly accomplishes its goals through the certification of embroidery teachers, judges, and exhibit administrator’s associates; and through advanced research programs: Honors and Teacher cum Laude and Master Judge. The Academy also has an outstanding collection of contemporary embroidery which is housed in the Gregg Museum of Art & Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Academy’s annual exhibit, The Exemplary, showcases needle art. It is an opportunity for all to share their level of accomplishment, to teach others, and to learn by example. It is an opportunity to find camaraderie as each individual strives for personal growth. The Academy strives to show embroidery at its finest — the excellent execution of a well conceived idea, fully developed. However, this is an ideal.
