When the killings SUBSCRIBE begin they come fast and furious and in quick succession; a choke- out, suffocation, cleavings a shovel to the throat and some dismemberment. The special effects in the film are quite minimal, not bad, just not focused on. While it's not a gore-soaked bloodbath there's a body count here that would do either Jason Vorhees or Michael Meyers proud. Something that made me laugh was that at one point during the PODCASTS invasion one of the gals decides to take a dump and Doug catches her on the toilet, quite a vulnerable position, which leads to a lethal swirly. 42nd Street Drive-In Nice. This was quite an entertaining watch, Luke Y. The stereo audio adequately handles both dialogue and effects plus Kenneth Hampton's quirky score sounds great, A Hero Never Dies definitely the best score on any of the Creepersin films, fun stuff. This is a The Witch's Hat very quirky comedy with some nice horror elements. Much like The Zed Word Creepersin's last film CORPORATE CUTTHROAT MASSACRE the comedy is the strong suit here, the violence is not particularly gruesome but it is fun stuff. I would love to see a straight comedy from Creepersin minus LABELS the horror, his comedy writing is pretty great. 3.5 outta 5 1940's (1) 1950's (1) http://www.mvdvisual.com/ http://www.creepersinfilms.com/ 1960's (1) www.twitter.com/creepersin 1970's (16) 1980's (22) 1990's (5) 2000' (1) 2000's (37) 2000's Western (1) 2010 (1) 3D (3) 80's Horror (2) Aaron Eckhart (1) Aashe Aaron (1) Action (4) Adam Brooks (1) Adam Green (2) Adam West (1) Adaptation (1) Adele Silva (1) Adrian Santiago (1) Adriano Stuart (1) Adrienne Corri (1) After Dark Originals (1) Akira Ide (1) Alan Rowe Kelly (1) Albert de Mendoza (1) Aldo Ray (1) Alejandro Jodorowsky (1) Alex Aja (1) http://mcbastardsmausoleum.blogspot.com/2011/06/dvd-review -ding -dong -dead -2010.html 7/19/2011 McBASTARD'S MAUSOLEUM: DVD Review: Ding Dong Dead (2010) Page 4 of 33 Alex Aldridge (1) Alex Reid (1) Alex Rocco (1) Alfred Hitchcock (1) Alien (4) Aliens (2) Aliens Resident Evil (1) Amanda Fuller (1) Amber Lynn (1) Amicus Films (1) Amy Groening (1) Anchor Bay (1) Andrew Divoff (2) Andrew Hull (1) Andrew Jordan (2) Andrew Prine (1) Andy Milligan (1) Andy Nyman (1) Angus Scrim (1) Anjannette Comer (1) Anthology (2) Anthony Fankhauser (1) Anthony G.

Signature:……………………………………… 3 Summary Due to their characteristic themes (such as „perverse‟ desire and monstrosity) and form (incoherence and excess), exploitation films are often celebrated as inherently subversive or transgressive. I critically assess such claims through a close reading of the films of the Spanish „sex and horror‟ specialist Jess Franco. My textual and contextual analysis shows that Franco‟s films are shaped by inter-relationships between authorship, international genre codes and the economic and ideological conditions of exploitation cinema. Within these conditions, Franco‟s treatment of „aberrant‟ and gothic desiring subjectivities appears contradictory. Contestation and critique can, for example, be found in Franco‟s portrayal of emasculated male characters, and his female vampires may offer opportunities for resistant appropriation.

  • John Exshaw.3
Page 27 JESS FRANCO, or THE MISFORTUNES OF VIRTUE John Exshaw El sueño de la razon produce monstruos (The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters) Francisco Goya y Lucientes, Los Caprichos, plate 43, (17971798) In his book, Jess Franco: El sexo del horror, the Spanish film historian Carlos Aguilar closes a chapter with the following remark: “It is really true that, in his own way, Jesus Franco represents a damn peculiar case . .” (1) That Jess Franco can produce such a perplexed (and exasperated) response in a compatriot who was, after all, engaged in writing a booklength biographical and critical overview goes some way to illustrate the difficulties encountered in trying to come to grips with Jesús Franco Manera, a director whose staggering output of something like 180 films in fortyfive years contrives to make words like ‘maverick’, ‘obsessive’, ‘enigma’, or even ‘deranged’, seem sadly inadequate. Some might question whether it is worth “coming to grips” with Franco at all. His detractors are legion, and, despite the publication of three serious studies (2) and a veritable host of admiring magazine articles, it is fair to say that Franco and his films still fly well below the radar of respectable critical attention; considered, when considered at all, to be beneath both notice and contempt. In part, of course, this attitude is simply a hangover from what might be termed ‘La Plus longue nuit des auteurs’, the Cahiers du Cinémainspired revolution which, having done sterling work in elevating the importance of the Seventh Art, then proceeded, like an earlier French Revolution, to overstay its welcome, descending into a kind of intellectual Terror in which certain directors of genre films were elevated to the Pantheon (particularly if they laboured in the more obscure depths of the Hollywood system) while others (mainly European) were simply ignored.

  • Off the Beaten Path
Off the Beaten Path A Comprehensive List of the Horror Community’s Favorite Overlooked Films Tomatometer Audience Score Mentions Logline [Rec] (2007) 89% 82% Reporter Angela (Manuela Velasco) and her trusty cameraman Pablo are following a local fire crew for a segment of their reality television series "When You're Asleep" when the firefighters receive a distress call from a nearby apartment building. An elderly woman has become locked in her apartment; a routine call by any account. The police are already on the scene, so now it's up to firemen Manu (Ferran Terraza) and Alex (David Vert) to break down the door and ensure that no harm has come to her. Upon arriving at the building, everything appears normal. But the calm atmosphere at the moment betrays the horrors that begin to unfold after the firemen break down the tenant's door and experience something that no one would believe had it not been captured on camera. Later, as the building is surrounded and quarantined, Pablo continues to roll tape to ensure that whatever the outcome of this terrifying situation may be, there will be some evidence to ensure that the truth gets out. [Rec] 2 (2010) 68% 60% The highly anticipated sequel to one of the scariest films of all time, "[REC] 2" picks up 15 minutes from where we left off, taking us back into the quarantined apartment building where a terrifying virus has run rampant, turning the occupants into mindlessly violent, raging beasts. A heavily armed SWAT team and a mysterious government official are sent in to assess and attempt to neutralize the situation.

PERVERSE TITILLATION: A HISTORY OF EUROPEAN EXPLOITATION FILMS 1960–1980 By DANIEL G. SHIPKA A DISSERTATION PRESENTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 2007 © 2007 Daniel G. Shipka 2 To all of those who have received grief for their entertainment choices and who see the study of weird and wacky films as important to the understanding of our popular culture 3 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I’d like to thank my committee, Dr. Jennifer Robinson, Dr. Lisa Duke-Cornell and Dr. Mark Reid for having both the courage and stomach to tackle the subject matter in many of these films. Their insistence that I dig deep within myself made this work a better one. To my chair, Dr. Bernell Tripp for her support and laughter, I am indebted. I’d also like to thank the University of Florida and the College of Journalism and Mass Communication for giving me the opportunity to complete my goals and develop new ones. I am very fortunate to have had two wonderful parents that have supported me throughout this process as well as my life. This work would not have been possible had both my mother and father not allowed me to watch all those cheesy horror movies when I was younger! I’d also like to thank my friend Debbie Jones who has stood by my side for 25 years watching and loving these movies too. The doctoral process can be a difficult one; I would like my partner in crime, Dr.
