He will serve a three year term in the position. The LTA is teaming up with Judy Murray in launching She Rallies (front cover). This is a new initiative to attract and retain more women and girls into tennis. Herts were one of just three East Region counties leading the launch with the appointment of our own She Rallies Ambassador and we further supported this launch by holding a training event at Martin and Janet Corrie at the Wimbledon Champions' Dinner Legends Tennis Club which was led by Judy. • OPEN LETTER to the University of Liverpool Concerning Threatened Redundancies of Academic Staff
You can't edit this document directly. To sign please use the form linked below the letter. OPEN LETTER to the University of Liverpool concerning threatened redundancies of academic staff In January the University of Liverpool announced 47 redundancies of academic staff. These staff were identified by grant income and citation metrics and sent letters notifying them they had been targeted for redundancies without the opportunity to review the criteria or the specific information held about them. The University has not made allowance for individual circumstances such as workload or sickness which might have affected these metrics, nor has it given any indication of any meaningful plans to make allowance for such factors. The University used a narrow time window over which to calculate these fluctuating metrics, and a proprietary citation metric tool from Elsevier to arrive at field-weighted citation metrics which are, as a consequence, opaque and difficult to review for appropriateness. We write as members of the wider academic community - researchers who collaborate with the University of Liverpool on grants and papers, who read and cite work from Liverpool, examine PhD students, review courses, attend conferences with colleagues from the University of Liverpool. We are dismayed by the University of Liverpool’s actions, which can only have a chilling effect on UK research. Our belief is not just that the redundancies are financially unnecessary and apparently illegal, nor just that they are fundamentally callous and unfair to deploy against staff who have received consistently positive annual appraisals and have been working harder than ever during a global pandemic.

  • World's Top Three Head for Fed
The News Bulletin of the International Tennis Federation www.itftennis.com World’s top three head for Fed Cup The 2012 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas season gets underway this week with eight World Group nations beginning their bid to lift the trophy. The action also starts in World Group II and four Zone Groups. Czech Republic open their title defence with a tricky away tie against Germany in Stuttgart. The hosts are missing their top player Andrea Petkovic, but such is the current strength in depth of German women’s tennis that captain Barbara Rittner still has three Top 30 players to call on, led by the in-form Sabine Lisicki. The important team news for the Czechs is that reigning Wimbledon champion and world No. 2 Petra Kvitova is fit and ready. Russia, last year’s runners-up, start their campaign against Spain in Moscow. The world No. 3, Maria Sharapova, fresh from reaching the Australian Open final at the weekend, leads a strong Russian team into battle alongside Svetlana Kuznetsova. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 30 January 2012 Issue 5 begins her reign as Spanish captain without the services of Anabel Medina Garrigues, which puts added pressure on the shoulders of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. Petra Kvitova (CZE) (Photo: Paul Zimmer) Belgium and Serbia go head-to-head in Charleroi. Kim Clijsters is missing for the Belgians so the responsibility falls on the experienced duo of Yanina Wickmayer and Kirsten Flipkens to spearhead the home team’s challenge. Jelena Jankovic fronts Serbia’s bid to win their first ever World Group tie and, with Ana Ivanovic a notable absentee for the visitors, Bojana Jovanovski is expected to step up into the singles line-up.
