Data dianalisis menggunakan perisian Statistical Package For The Social Science (SPSS 16.0). 8 ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the parenting style and its relationship with the personality profile of adolescents in single mothers’ families in Sekolah Dato 'Usman Awang, Taman Perling, Johor Bharu. This study involved a total of 82 respondents from the Remove to form 5 classes. The questionnaire used in this study contains three parts. Part A covers the background of the respondents and their mother; part B is a questionnaire on Parental Behavior Inventory (PBI) which measures the parenting style of single mothers, while the part C is a questionnaire about personality profile using the Big Five Personality Test (BFI). Data were analyzed using Statistical Package For The Social Science (SPSS 16.0). Descriptive analysis is used to answer the objectives 1 and 2 by using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, while the inferential analysis is used to answer the third objective of the correlation method. The findings showed that parenting style which most widely practiced in single-parent families is the authoritative parenting style with M = 1.33, or 39.70%, followed by authoritarian with M = 1:03 or 30.75% and permissive with M = 0.99 or 29.55%. In addition, the study also showed Agreeableness personality is the most dominant personality with M = 2.99, or 21.27%, followed by Extraversion personality with M = 2.80, or 20:33% and Openness to Experience with M = 2.79, or 20:26%. The analysis also reveals that authoritarian parenting style has a significant relationship with Openness to Experience and Conscientiousness personality profiles. However, there is no significant relationship between authoritative and permissive parenting style of single mothers with all other personality profile. 9 KANDUNGAN BAB PERKARA MUKA SURAT PENGAKUAN i TAJUK ii PENGESAHAN iii PENGHARGAAN iv DEDIKASI v ABSTRAK vi ABSTRACT vii KANDUNGAN viii SENARAI JADUAL xv SENARAI RAJAH xviii SENARAI SINGKATAN xix SENARAI LAMPIRAN xx 1 PENDAHULUAN MUKA SURAT 1.1 Pengenalan 1 1.2 Latar Belakang Masalah Kajian 6 1.3 Pernyataan Masalah 9 1.4 Objektif Kajian 11 1.5 Persoalan Kajian 11 1.6 Hipothesis Kajian 12 1.7 Kerangka Konsep Kajian 13 1.8 Kepentingan Kajian 14 10 1 PENDAHULUAN MUKA SURAT 1.9 Batasan Kajian 17 1.10 Definisi Konsep dan Operasional 17 1.10.1 Ibu Tunggal 18 1.10.2 Gaya Keibubapaan 19 1.10.3 Profil 20 1.10.4 Personaliti 20 1.10.5 Remaja 21 1.11 Kesimpulan 22 2 SOROTAN KAJIAN MUKA SURAT 2.1 Pengenalan 23 2.2 Konsep Ibu Tunggal 23 2.2.1 Ibu Tunggal Dalam Perspektif Islam 25 2.3 Rangka Teori Personaliti 26 2.3.1 Teori Psikoanalisis 27 2.3.2 Teori Jenis 27 2.3.3 Teori Psikodinamik 28 2.3.4 Teori Psikoanalisis Sosial dan Budaya 29 2.3.5 Teori Perspektif Trait 29 2.3.6 Teori Humanistik 30 2.3.7 Personaliti Dalam Perspektif Islam 30 2.3.8 Teori Tret 32 11 2 SOROTAN KAJIAN MUKA SURAT 2.4 Lima Faktor Utama Ciri Personaliti 33 (Big-Five Personality Traits) 2.4.1 Openness To Experience 33 2.4.2 Conscientiousness 34 2.4.3 Extraversion 35 2.4.4 Agreeableness 36 2.4.5 Neuroticism 37 2.5 Gaya Keibubapaan 37 2.5.1 Autoritatif 38 2.5.2 Autoritarian 39 2.5.3 Permisif 39 2.5.4 Tidak Terlibat 40 2.6 Gaya Keibubapaan Dalam Perspektif Islam 41 2.7 Kajian-kajian Luar Negara 41 2.8 Kajian-kajian Lepas di Malaysia 44 2.9 Kesimpulan 47 3 METODOLOGI MUKA SURAT 3.1 Pengenalan 48 3.2 Rekabentuk Kajian 49 3.3 Populasi 50 3.4 Sampel Kajian 50 3.5 Tempat Kajian 51 3.6 Instrumen Kajian 53 12 3 METODOLOGI MUKA SURAT 3.6.1 Bahagian A 53 3.6.2 Bahagian B 56 3.6.3 Bahagian C 57 3.7 Kesahan dan Kebolehpercayaan 59 3.8 Prosedur Kajian 59 3.9 Analisis Data Kajian 62 3.10 Kesimpulan 63 4 DAPATAN KAJIAN MUKA SURAT 4.1 Pengenalan 64 4.2 Profil Responden 65 4.2.1 Jantina 65 4.2.2 Umur 66 4.2.3 Bangsa 66 4.2.4 Agama 67 4.2.5 Bilangan Adik-beradik 68 4.2.6 Status Ibu 68 4.2.7 Umur Ibu 69 4.2.8 Kelayakan Akademik Ibu 70 4.2.9 Pendapatan Ibu 71 4.2.10 Aliran Akademik Pelajar 72 4.3 Analisis Persoalan Kajian 72 4.3.1 Kajian Deskriptif Mengenalpasti Jenis Gaya Keibubapaan 73 Ibu Tunggal Remaja 13 4 DAPATAN KAJIAN MUKA SURAT 4.3.2 Kajian Deskiptif Jenis Personaliti Remaja Dalam 80 Keluarga Ibu Tunggal 4.3.3 Taburan Responden Mengikut Profil Personaliti 81 Extraversion Remaja Dalam Keluarga Ibu Tunggal 4.3.4 Taburan Responden Mengikut Profil Personaliti 83 Agreeableness Remaja Dalam Keluarga Ibu Tunggal 4.3.5 Taburan Responden Mengikut Profil Personaliti 84 Conscientiousness Remaja Dalam Keluarga Ibu Tunggal 4.3.6 Taburan Responden Mengikut Profil Personaliti 86 Neuroticism Remaja Dalam Keluarga Ibu Tunggal 4.3.7 Taburan Responden Mengikut Profil Personaliti Openness 87 to Experience Remaja Dalam Keluarga Ibu Tunggal 4.4 Mengenalpasti hubungan yang signifikan diantara gaya keibubapaan 89 (Autoritarian, Autoritatif, Permisif) dengan profil personaliti remaja (Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extrovert, Agreeableness dan Neuroticism) dalam keluarga ibu tunggal.

This clash also created a new sense of place and function for the writer and his individual consciousness. From then on he/she sought to describe new scenarios and express his/her own perspectives and opinions with more confidence and conviction. Traditional literary formulae were slowly replaced with new and original lines and metaphors, while the verse and the narrative forms were loosened to allow the writer’s personality to be expressed.

B. PARNICKEL * AN EPIC HERO AND AN "EPIC TRAITOR" IN THE HIKAYAT HANG TV AH The study of the Hikayat Hang Tuah, the most monumental product of late medieval Malay literature, has raised many controversial questions. One of them is, no doubt, the prpblem of the social tenor of the HHT, whose principal hero, as is already announced in its wordy heading, "showed great loyalty to his sovereign and renderedhim many great services". Some fifteen years ago, in a paper read at the 25th Oriëntalist Congress, the present author called attention to the utter ingratitude of the raja of Malacca towards the bravest of his heroes, and expressed the opinion that the written version of the HHT which has come down to us, represents a court adaptation of a popular epic containing "a new Malay version of the conflict between a hero and a monarch, the con- flict which is so typical for a feudal epic".1 That paper, having been translated into English, drew a great deal of attention from Malayists, among whom the most explicit critic was Teeuw.2 Profound study of the text of the HHT, such as Teeuw emphatically calls for, makes it possible to abandon the support of an oral epos of Hang Tuah which has not been transmitted to us, and provides, in my opinion, new ar- guments in favour of my viewpoint, which probably was not expounded too convincingly.

  • Usman Awang in Singapore
Usman Awang in Singapore Tan Jing Quee December 2001 The passing away of Usman Awang in November 2001 was in many ways, a watershed in the literary history of Malaysia and Singapore. He was perhaps one of the few literary giants who are known on both sides of the Causeway, read by a diverse section of the reading public. He is easily the most accessible of the major writers of the Malay language, partly because his writings have been widely translated into English, Chinese and several other languages. The fact that this is so perhaps says something of the universality of his appeal. Usman Awang became the poet laureate of Malaysia towards the later part of his life. Few people remember, however, his early connections with Singapore, for it was in Singapore that he began his journalistic and literary career before moving on to greater heights in Malaysia. It may be useful, therefore, to revisit Usman’s links with Singapore and the early generation of Malay scholars in Singapore. Usman Awang or Tongkat Warrant as he was more popularly known, has foten been described as a humanist, but I think he should be more appropriately described as a socialist humanist. His concern for the poor and the underprivileged, his anti-colonial and anti-war ideological perspectives fused with his sense of justice, racial tolerance marked him out as more than a humanist simplicitor. He has clear political sympathies for the oppressed, although it was not known if he had a specific political affiliation. In this sense, his socialism was instinctive rather than a fully formed and clearly articulated vision.

J. MAIER ** The tale is called Hikayat percintaan kasih kemudaan, a tale of youthful love. It was written by Ahmad Kotot, and published in two installments of 1 ,000 copies each by a printing house called al-Matbaah al·Rawzah aI-Islam wa syarikah in 1927 and 1928, respectively. It was presented in Arabic script, at the time still the more common form of writing in the Malay heartland. Place of publication: Seremban, a small town on the Malay Peninsula. The honorarium for the author: 50 copies; he was supposed to sell or give these away among his relatives and friends. History does not tell us how much Ahmad Kotot earned from them. Hikayat percintaan probably did not make him a rich man, but it found readers: the book was soon sold out. At the time, however, it was not reprinted, and its echoes were to drown in the wave of publications that swept over the Malay Peninsula in the 30s. Information about Ahmad Kotot is scanty.
