On most home conversions, the steering wheel is replaced by pressing left and right on the joystick. ■ Gas: Press the gas pedal to accelerate the car. The new- year welcomes the fourth new Audi Sport product offering. The race car promises to delight competitors and club level drivers with its stunning exterior and bespoke Audi build quality. Rearden Racing received the first global delivery of the Audi R8 LMS GT2 race car at The Thermal Club in Thermal, CA. The premier motorsport club will host three SRO Winter Series events with the last event scheduled in February. Team Owner Lara Tallman is poised to manage the car and driver as the she prepares for the 2020 racing season. The team successfully ran the Audi R8 LMS GT4 race car in 2019 finishing first in the Pirelli GT4 SprintX AM West Team Championship and welcomes another new Audi product in their portfolio. Rearden Racing is now the first team to enter the GT2 in US competition. The second race weekend of the SRO Winter Series included a special class designated to GT Sports Club entries. The Audi GT2, piloted by Dmitri Novikov, placed the car on pole position and finished first in class in race two bringing Audi its first GT2 top podium.

Just as Lefebvre and Merleau-Ponty were concerned with the reductive effects of the scientifically conceived spaces of technology upon everyday life, so Virilio extends these concerns to the impact of time upon lived, or ‘real space.’ As techniques and technologies of managing time are applied to everyday life, so ‘real spaces’ are progressively diluted and individuals can no longer delineate between the private and the public: so called ‘dead time’ on mass transit systems is elided by Wi-Fi connectivity; Internet connected appliances are always-on for corporations to target advertising and governments to harvest data to increase national security, with the PRISM program showing little demarcation between either sphere. Inhabitants of contemporary societies are overlaid with a gossamer digital net, allowing spaces to be traversed in advance: GPS positioning covers the globe, permitting navigation and simulation of spaces pre-arrival, Google’s variant navigation software shows topographical and actual views of journeys before they take place, war games provide tactical and strategic supremacy of potential theatres of battle, flight and medical simulators allow a view of future egocentric (airspace) and exocentric (the human body) spaces before any actual flight or operation is undertaken. Laborsaving devices privilege real-time over real-space, the result being that the temporal obliterates the spatial, ‘here no longer exists, everything is now’ (Virilio 2000b: 125).

Last year’s race in Baku was widely recognised as the most exciting and dramatic race of the year – if not the decade – by members of the media, teams, drivers and the global F1 fanbase alike. It truly was a race that had it all culminating in the most unexpected podium line up in many years. The fact that this historic race occurred under our new event title as the FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX filled us with an even greater sense of pride and satisfaction for a job well done. This year we once again welcome the world to Baku at the slightly earlier date of late April to bear witness to the awe-inspiring sight of F1 cars negotiating one of the fastest and most testing circuits in Formula 1. Baku City Circuit’s winding, narrow sequences, 90-degree turns and high-speed straights - all set against the breath- taking backdrop of Baku’s UNESCO-protected old city, magnificent skylines and beautiful seaside promenade - have proven to be a major challenge to the current F1 grid, resulting in last year’s spectacular outcome and many on-track altercations. We are very confident of a similar explosion of drama, speed and bravery occurring once again for the 2018 edition. Furthermore, the off-track entertainment will be bigger and better than ever before with world-class music, visual and conceptual artists once again performing all along the specially constructed Fan Zone all weekend.
